Apple never publicly advertises the amount of RAM included in iPhones, but MacRumors has confirmed that all four iPhone 16 models are equipped with 8GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence. We uncovered this information in the latest version of Apple's developer tool Xcode 16, with assistance from @iSWUpdates.

This means that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have an additional 2GB of RAM compared to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have the same amount of RAM as the equivalent iPhone 15 Pro models.

New RAM amounts:
  • iPhone 16: 8GB
  • iPhone 16 Plus: 8GB
  • iPhone 16 Pro: 8GB
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: 8GB

Previous RAM amounts:
  • iPhone 15: 6GB
  • iPhone 15 Plus: 6GB
  • iPhone 15 Pro: 8GB
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max: 8GB
The same Xcode files accurately revealed RAM amounts for the iPhone 15 models last year and in several previous iPhone generations.

All four iPhone 16 models will be available to pre-order starting Friday, September 13 at 5 a.m. Pacific Time in the U.S. and nearly 60 other countries and regions. The devices are set to launch one week later, on Friday, September 20.

Don't say AI never did nuthin for you

Edit: the pros don't get a RAM bump? They're basically saying we were too generous. Won't happen again

It will depend on if their strategy.

They have two choices :
A. Give the users with limited amount of RAM opt-in access to online Apple Intelligence requests (they're already doing that with ChatGPT for really larger LLMs)
B. Up the minimum amount of RAM to 12 GB and render these devices obsolete for future Apple Intelligence features (they've done that with iPhone 15 and 14 Pro and below).

Apple Intelligence will be one of the main pillars in Apple's strategy between now and 2030.
I'd be surprised they chose B too often.

Man they really screwed over iPhone 15 users, that device is not going to age well.
Think of iPhone 13-14 users, they will both be obsolete the same year. I feel like Apple is gearing up to do that with the series 6-8 watches (pretty much same tech in all), and maybe even with iPhone XR/XS and 11 gens next year.

But 8GB base seems fine to me for a phone. Don’t the higher capacities have more ram usually?

In that regard, the 16 Pro will be the same as the new budget model (SE4) then.

Hopefully this doesn't bring us back to the days where opening the camera cause iOS to suspend everything running in memory.
LOL yeah, that was the iPhone 6 with 1gb ram 😆😆😆
Next year we got the 7 with double the memory (2gb) which solved everything.

I’m definitely waiting for 17 with 12gb of ram

When I had the 13PM I could be on a Discord call or watching Twitch and would go launch a power hungry app like Camera and iOS would put those apps to sleep lol
