It would be crazy if Apple kept their computers at 8GB when their phones have that same amount of RAM

Thanks, my 15 Pro Max has 8 GB RAM! I will continue to use for another 3 years easily.

Even people who aren’t price conscious have to ask if upgrading to the 16 Pro Max is worth the hassle of the phone service transfer.

More RAM and fixing thermals were all that Pro Max users needed. They got neither.

I'm still undecided about upgrading from my 13 Pro. My battery health is still at 92%, partly because I also have a secondary phone for work, so my personal iPhone isn't used that heavily. I'm thinking the iPhone 17 might be a more significant upgrade, given the rumored design changes but at the same time I'm kinda itching for the better cameras, dynamic island and AI features.

Any word if the Apple Intelligence will be available in Europe?

They should be required by law to disclose the amount of RAM in the phone. This isn’t a trivial spec, it’s the single-most important thing that will determine the phone’s lifespan. The fact that they don’t want people to know speaks volumes.
you are joking right? Im still using Xs and the phone works fine without any issues. What are you doing on your phone that you need 64GB of ram?

Good to know about this. Expecting an increase in RAM for Pro models next year.

Hugely disappointing about 8GB. But expected. Even the low end Pixel 9 non pro has 12 and the pro’s 16. They know AI gobbles memory.
And Safari tabs too judging by my 13 Pro.
I worry the 16 Pro Max at its huge cost will be hobbled after a couple of generations of AI.
Was going to go all in on watch and new phone .. but now on the fence (again). Not just due to memory lol. Cost/still not improved all the cameras either etc.
Pixel line up looking tempting but equally costly. Might stretch the 13 Pro another year.

Apple never publicly advertises the amount of RAM included in iPhones, but MacRumors has confirmed that all four iPhone 16 models are equipped with 8GB of RAM….

Here are two articles that reported this last Friday.

It's too early to tell for sure but so far it is said that only the Pro Max will receive a RAM boost.
Have you seen that from an outlet with a reputation for accuracy? If so, which? I’ve only seen confirmations of 8GB, the same amount as last year’s Pro and Pro Max.

Pixel phone has true multitasking and the iPhone doesn’t. Multitasking requires more RAM. So instead of imagining some new advanced AI requirements, a more direct question is: Should the iPhone also support Multitasking like Android does?

How do you know thermals weren’t fixed? According to this article, thermals have been addressed in 16 Pro but may or may not produce satisfactory results. Of course we have to wait to see how well it functions in the real world.

I always thought it is swapping automatically if RAM is full. Like I thought my iPhone 6 of course had USB 3.0.
It's a common point of confusion. iOS has virtual memory - meaning, it can map large files into memory and automatically swap parts of the file in. But it doesn't have backing store for read-write pages that map into the heap.

Said differently: Individual apps can take advantage of virtual memory features. But almost no app developers are this sophisticated. There's no generic virtual memory mechanism that's active by default, or which works across multiple apps.

It's possible that Apple adds swap eventually. It exists in macOS, and it was introduced in iPadOS 16. But Apple may also resist a while longer. OS-wide swap makes it easier for application developers to get sloppy and start relying on it, bloating memory footprints and introducing swapping pauses. Frequent writes to flash burn extra battery, generate a lot of heat, and can cause seemingly random pauses that users may blame on the OS.

I was going on second-hand information. This is hopeful. I'd love to be wrong! The iPhone 15 Pro Max spends a lot of time throttling the CPU and dimming the screen to keep thermals in check. I understand the regular 15 Pro is similar.

I do think the Pros should have been bumped to 12GB, and almost certainly will be next year. Not gonna prevent me from upgrading though. :D
Yeah, it will be interesting to see how the AI features and ram totals evolve moving forward. I’m getting a pro max 512gb and hoping I can keep it for a minimum of four years.
