I'll take quad-core and more battery over an optical drive (that takes up 1/3 of the entire computer) any day of the week ... including Sunday!

I have to agree. I'll plug in a superdrive (external) when I need it.

Why?
If you want a Macbook Pro that is lighter and thinner, and doesn't have a HDD or DVD drive, then just get a Macbook Air.

This. The Air has always seemed like a proof-of-concept to me. "Here's what we can do; here's where we're going. But right now, obviously, this doesn't make sense for our main line."

The MacBook Air is there precisely for the people who think they don't need an HDD or an optical drive. I'll go out on a limb and even predict that the MacBook Pro will adopt Blu Ray before it goes without an optical drive. One day, the Pro line will adopt these features. But that will surely mark the end of the Air line.

All I can say is I'd be super duper happy if they lost the slot load!! My first Mac was with my first Ssd and removing the optical would remove all moving parts!!! Not to mention I think I burned 3 CDs or do in almost 2 years ? :/

To all those who complain about it... An external drive is an option. They look awesome too!

I simply didn't use it at all. I'd love to see it go.

I didnt use any language so maybe you should learn what language is. Over time can be 2 months or 20 years. The time Apple would even consider if...IF they redesigned it WITHOUT the superdrive this year would be at least another 2-3 years before they would redesign it again. So if its 20 years you can stop making this redundant thread, if its 2 months you can stop also.

Edit: Read some other posts of yours and it seems all your here to do is stir the crap in these threads...Predictions, Superdrive, Lion, Release dates. Maybe you should contribute something instead of stirring the crap.

if this is a redundant thread, stop posting in it. oh yes. and stop whining and trolling. as long as there are people interested in this matter, there will be threads about those topics.
"I didnt use any language so maybe you should learn what language is." you really do not know what "watch your language" means, do you? sad... but not surprising.

Via USB drive that's comes loaded with the OS from apple.

LoL you mean the one that A) Apple doesn't sell to common folk and B) Is only available with the Macbook Air. We can only speculate that 10.7 will be available for consumption via flash. It seemed more like a bandaid to the lack of disk drive (and requiring customers to either use the external or find another machine and share it's disk drive). The remote install procedure itself was not without it's hiccups.

I can see how and why Apple would want to move in this direction, but I'm not ready to lose my optical drive.

+1 itunes is great but my local cd store can be alot lot cheaper on some cds and i use the 'import to itunes' feature a lot....

Might as well give up, you cant justify anything to these "Professional" photographers, musicians, engineers and facebookers...

Eh?

Yeah, I brought this thread back up. :)

This is exactly why it makes zero sense to bicker back and forth about something none of us know about. Speculation's cool and even fun, but don't argue over something you know nothing about. It makes you look silly. :p

But interweb debates are fun :p ;)
