They’re not of much use if I’m still going to get the same “floating lights” in most of my night photos and videos

How do you know that you will? Don't you currently shoot with a 13PM, which easily flares? Which was taken care of with the 14PM.

Why not give a 16PM a try and see if it still happens? I know it doesn't on my 15PM (unlike my 12PM which easily flared with off-axis Sun light). If it does, simply return it during the return window.

So no lens flare reduction/coating that was rumoured? That’s extremely disappointing and the one thing that might have seen me upgrade from my 13PM.

There's an anti-reflective coating, but there was also an anti-reflective coating for the iPhone 15 models so it's not a new addition.

You forgot to add one more thing that is Pause while taking video along with dedicated Foto button! Bring it on Baby - innovation everywhere, where????
That's not limited to the iPhone 16.

Would be nice to call out the aperture improvements specifically by comparing to what it was in the 15
Apertures are all the same except for the 12-megapixel Ultra Wide for the 16 models, which has an f/2.2 aperture, up from f/2.4.

Not so much sunlight that’s the issue, but night time lights which cause floating “ghost lights” to appear when shooting photos or videos. As far as I’m aware (and as reported on this and other news sites) Apple were rumoured to be introducing a new coating to eliminate this

so that new button, it's not really a shutter button , is it?
also, I wonder if the horrid HDR will still ruin the lowlight/night time photos?
My 13Pro takes bad photos at night, they look like paintings.

Being a photographer, lens flare on my iPhone 12PM used to drive me crazy. It was due to the silvered ring around the front of the lens - it reflected off-axis Sun light into the lens. I complained a lot about it as it ruined many potentially good photos I made.

Perhaps writing a letter helped, as the problem was solved on my 14PM and 15PM. No more silvered ring around the front of the lens and no more flare. That said, if you shoot *into* where the Sun is, all bets are off. As expected.

You might give a 16 a try. If for some reason you don't like it, simply return it within the 14 day window.
not a pro photographer but for me the worst is when taking photos at night and there are strong led work lights around, green dots everywhere

Good to see that Pro gets same zoom as Pro Max. Upgraded ultra wide lens on Pro models is good. Waiting for telephoto lens to be also upgraded next year.

After being life long apple, I switched to S23 ultra and love it. I left owning an iPhone 13 pro max (gold ftw). Maybe next year I'll come back, but it needs to look different to my 5 year old phone.. like for 2000aud take a risk, apple designers. "Tougher glass" ain't even close to cutting it. Or an extra hour battery.

Lens flare is still terrible on the 15 pro, as seen by orbs etc. It is notably worse than Samsung flagships, who sorted their lens coatings around 3 years ago.

I don't see it on my 15PM. It was quite apparent on my 12PM.

Can anyone explain what a 'Fusion' camera is?
Its just a new marketing term for what is an old feature (for the Pro's). Its where they merge (or "fuse") binned 12MP shots with unbinned 48MP shots to give the default 24MP shots in good light.

It made my eyes roll when I saw it, kinda felt like they were trying to "pad out" the "new" stuff to make it sound like more.

I’m intrigued by how macro photography can be achieved by the ultra wide camera, which is usually intended at capturing big scenes… but it’s a very welcome addition in my opinion. I sometimes miss not having those types of cameras on my SE 3, but I wouldn’t trade the pocketability of this iPhone for a bigger phone and better cameras.

I see it all the time, I can often instantly tell videos that were taken with the 15 Pro.

this shows it a little, scroll down to the sun photos https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/ou...hone-15-pro-max-against-the-galaxy-s24-ultra/

Also, if you search "flare" in this article it details it https://www.zdnet.com/article/iphon...-that-show-what-the-new-camera-system-can-do/

A post on the official Apple support forum also shows it well https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255193966?sortBy=rank

If you Google "15 pro lens flare" its a well established problem. Not a killer by any means, I still use a 15 Pro as a daily driver, but something I would love for them to improve to match Samsung performance as I love golden hour photography.

I am disappointed... Why no Touch ID at side button like on iPad Air for ones who hates FaceID ? More heavier devices (even with 150g phone it is hard to run or do some Sports).
And almost no changes from previous line except A18.

Why are you disappointed? It's another year where you can save money by not upgrading and not feel like you're missing out. It can be viewed as a positive as well.

You are right :)
But I am waiting (and saving) from 2020 when current SE2 has already poor battery and possible upgrade to SE3 is limited in Storage (and still poor battery for today needs).

I think the SE4 in early 2025 would be the perfect upgrade for you
