Its just a new marketing term for what is an old feature (for the Pro's). Its where they merge (or "fuse") binned 12MP shots with unbinned 48MP shots to give the default 24MP shots in good light.

It made my eyes roll when I saw it, kinda felt like they were trying to "pad out" the "new" stuff to make it sound like more.
So the 14Pro has the function they are now describing as fusion? What is it, the hdr setting?

No I think it launched on the 15 pro, and now the base 16 is getting it (and they come up with the “fusion” marketing name for it). In the 16 pro sales pitch they’ve retrospectively added the “fusion” name to the pro camera too making it sound like something new, although it already had it last year.

It’s nothing to do with HDR, it’s to do with the combining of 12MP and 48MP shots to create 24MP default output (in good light) as I detailed in my post

I am disappointed... Why no Touch ID at side button like on iPad Air for ones who hates FaceID ? More heavier devices (even with 150g phone it is hard to run or do some Sports).
And almost no changes from previous line except A18.
A bigger battery, Wi-Fi 7, faster 5G, better thermals, camera control, better cameras, and a lot more. There are almost no changes, Pah!

Apertures are all the same except for the 12-megapixel Ultra Wide for the 16 models, which has an f/2.2 aperture, up from f/2.4.
Nope…. They never changed. the 15 Pro Max was f/2.2
iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • Fusion: 48MP, ƒ/1.78 aperture
  • Ultra Wide: 48MP, ƒ/2.2 aperture
  • Telephoto: 12MP, ƒ/2.8 aperture
iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • Main: 48MP, ƒ/1.78 aperture
  • Ultra Wide: 12MP, ƒ/2.2 aperture

The “fusion” camera is on the 15 pro too, Apple marketing come up with that for the base 16 and just ported the name over to the 16 pro and made it sound like a new feature.

Yep… Agree. I just ported the whole text directly from Apple’s site for member jclo’s benefit.
