...So they found a way to offset the costs by taking something AWAY from the customer, and sacrificing nothing on their end.

It's a pathetic, scummy business move by a greedy company that is at PEAK greed under this leadership.
My opinion is they held the price on the iphone 12 from last year, even with new tech, removed the charger and is charging $20 for a 20 watt usb-c. The last sentence is just myopic and narrow. Apple under all leaderships "is greedy".
The funny thing is that nobody would care if they would increase the price of the iPhone with $19, but everyone gets upset if they don’t include the charger in the box.
I think plenty would care and there would be the same amount of dicussions.
Known by whom? Back then I only found out about the removal during the live reveal.
Rumors were flying all over the place.
...(while at the same time not only cutting costs but even making additional profit on top of it all because of it).
Are you suggesting the act of removing earspods and the charger saves Apple money and enables them to make additional profit at the same time?
If Apple increased the base price of each phone by $30 and included the charger, would there still be this same amount of complaining?
My opinion is yes.

Or if they had decent sons and daughters, let alone grandchildren, then they’d already have a mobile phone if they needed it. Why are loads “all of a sudden” buying their first smartphone?!

Besides, they’d likely not buy it online, old people go into the shops, and then they’d be told they need a charger, which they’d just think was normal if they’ve never owned one before. Right?

I’m thinking you are a series of asterisks. No, you’re not right. Go eat asterisks, you asterisk asterisk. Good god. The lengths people will go to be asterisks.

People go into shops? Are you asterisk kidding me? The shops are closed, you asterisk asterisk. And the elderly shouldn’t be in the stores even if they are open.

What in the living asterisk are you smoking? Are you on the Apple payroll? I’m betting you are.

Asterisk asterisk.

Not sure where you are in the world, but shops certainly are not closed... asterisk??? Ok whatever.

I was talking in general, not right now. You think we are going to love the way we have been forever? No chance.
If an old person wanted a phone, and didn’t know anything about it do you honestly think they’d go online and order an iPhone? No. They’d ask a family member to do it, or in a normal world that isn’t what we are experiencing currently, they would go into the Apple store and ask for assistance.

Why can’t old people go outside? Life goes on, as long as they’re sensible it’s fine. You can’t expect them to stay indoors from now until they die! This isn’t going away, but we will have to move on and live with it.

And no I’m not on the Apple payroll, they couldn’t afford me and my work.

Read countless posts on here and Reddit from people defending Apple's potential move of not including the power adapter with the 2020 iPhones because they had plenty of them lying around at home already. And yet not a word from anyone now that we know the new iPhones will ship with a USB-C Lightning cable that is incompatible with all previously included iPhone power adapters (except iPhone 11 Pro and Max).

For me, I have all sorts of cables so this will just be an extra cable for connecting to my computer, or if I buy another adapter it will be USB-C.

The big change will be when Apple goes to USB-C on the phones themselves. Then all the old lightning cables won't work, and I will have to go into the jungle of trying to find the right USB-C cable since they differ.

And I'm not sorry that I'm not getting another of those 5W adapters.

20w power adapter included with HomePod mini...

Let me guess: Apple set up a focus group and determined that owners of HomePod mini don’t own MacBooks nor usb-C chargers.

I suspect there is a difference for the HomePod. It probably doesn't have a battery, so has to be plugged in all the time. Phones, you plug in, charge, and use disconnected.

Personally I can’t see iPhones ever going to USB C. Port-less will come next, hence MagSafe.

Look, man. If I died today, my mom would be in deep you know what. She absolutely cannot learn tech for some reason. She’s got her iPad and iPhone, but if I’m not there for tech support, it’s over.

People need to be able to buy a product that continually works out of the box.

Imagine my mom buying a new TV that didn’t come with a power cord. Or a new car that only allowed one tank of gas before you had to buy another battery.

For us, it’s fine. But for those who don’t do tech, they’re a wreck.

For all of those ‘buying their first phone’ situations, surely any sales advisor or website should make the customer aware that an adapter is sold separately.

I have worked in the vape industry here in the UK for the past 4 years, and do you know what... I have only come across 1 vape kit that came with a power adapter... why? Because they are sold across the world and it makes sense to let the customer get their own adapter for their own countries plug socket.

Apple can ship the same model phones and iPads to any country now that they have done this, which is not only cost effective for the company but will also ease on emissions.

In the future they could potentially transfer stock from somewhere like France over to the UK, rather than further afield from China to the UK which will require less emissions.

James... are you aware that most salespeople don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground and will tell anyone anything? Seriously. Literally. Anything.

And are you aware that this is detrimental to a non-tech person’s life?

Surely you know. Don’t play stupid. And don’t be.

My PC I/O panel has a Type C so will use that for now.

Will the 61w block from a Macbook pro work ok?

I do need a Type C car charger too.

The iPhone will never have a USB-C port. The next move is a closed-off magnetic port.

Your post is the absolute perfect example of why Apple needs to put a charger in the box with their phones.

If my mother read your post, she’d most likely call 911.

A product should come with everything in the box it needs to work and to keep working. “Going Green” is the lamest excuse.
iPhones haven’t had a headphone jack in a few years and today’s iPhones do not include the adapter the iPhone 7 did. But, what’s done is done and likely others will follow.

I still feel that this wasn't the year to do it because only the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max came with the proper brick to make use of this cable. If it had been all models of 11, sure I get it.

Plenty was said on the forums. The usb-c cable will be used with my car that has a PD port, so it won’t be wasted. Apple made a decision and no matter what Apple did after that people would be critical.

But, to that point, they did not only include updated headphones that would work with the Lightning port but also a separate adapter too when the change was made to remove the headphone jack to help with the transition.

I’m just flabbergasted by this thread and I don’t even own an iPhone. To be so malcontent and have no other way to focus your energy to something useful in your actual life truly staggers my mind. I truly can’t relate to the mindset. I’ll defend Apple, and any Android OEM that wants to do this. I can only speak for myself, I can charge any device with any port that comes out with my arsenal of cables and chargers. And for those of you crapping on the environmental as per, whatever. There are tangible benefits to it, and yes, more OEMs should do it.

Apple has been touting their environmental advances and track record for years. This is nothing new to them. And yes, some of their previous packaging may have been bloated but that doesn’t mean there can’t come a time when things can’t change. Hopefully this is the start of it. I haven’t bought an Apple Watch in years so I have no idea what it comes in now but back then it was a ridiculously big box. So yeah, shame on them.

Enough of this ridiculous, my life is kind of devoid of purpose thread.

End of my rant.

The old ‘anybody who has a slightly different opinion to me, can’t have any purpose in their life’ kind of angle. Love it.

Apple’s first and most important priority is to generate money. Of course it’s a convenient way to justify the lack of accessories by claiming to protect the environment.

One day Apple will exclude the iPhone and y’all be like ”it’s the right step for the environment“ lol.

James... are you aware that most salespeople don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground and will tell anyone anything? Seriously. Literally. Anything.

I really want to know what utopian part of the world you live in where cell phone sales folks don’t push all sorts of cases and car chargers and other marked up accessories.

Should someone actually manage to order an iPhone without seeing the notices of needing to use an existing charger and cable or having the sales person push buying a charger, the solution is inexpensive and as close as the nearest grocery/convenience/drug/etc store.

BTW you’d best warn her now that if she buys a new washer/dryer set, they also don’t come with everything needed to use them. Wouldn’t want to have to depend on the “ignorant” sales people to tell her to buy the cord and hoses.

If anyone has EarPods unused I want them lol. Los Angeles area! I need them for zoom calls. Mine are all lightning EarPods. I need 3.5 mm EarPods. Dammit.
I wish I had the too many headphone problem like many of you claims. Jeeez I can’t find any in my house. I have a ton of usb chargers through.

I wish you were closer. I have at least 3 of the old headphone jack pairs. Found one set this morning still in the plastic wrap from Apple. And we have at least 3 pair of the lightning ends too.
