I’m guessing price increase since it is now an iPad Pro lite.
I really don’t understand why Apple keeps pushing iPads up on the price ladder. In the past, the focus was to keep the pricing low or even make it less so more people can get it (In the past, Apple worked so hard keeping the flagship iPad to start at $499).

The dollar back then...inflation etc...they need to keep their profit margins the same like 300%

I honestly can no longer keep track of the differences between the three ipad lines.
Same. Let me try and understand this: a $300-ish base iPad will support a $300-ish keyboard accessory? I have a 7th gen iPad and an iPad Air 3, and the smart keyboard cover works with them both. If this rumor is even slightly true, which I am 50/50 on (I would think this is a new Air but that's just me) then most likely....I'll pass. Cannot justify a $300+ keyboard accessory for an iPad. Double the price just for a keyboard?

Believe it or not, my usage of ipads has decreased rather than increased lately. Much prefer my MacBook air/pro, and use the ipads mostly at night for in bed reading. That's just me.
Totally agree. What the heck is the point? We now have 9.7, 10.5, 11, 12.9, and soon, a 10.8 inch iPad? I miss the days of Apple’s “one iPad to rule them all” mindset. I mean, fragmentation was a huge talking point for them back in the day!

The difference between model sis simple, clear and the only one that matters to customers, the price. Totally different people buy a 300, 500 and 800+ dollars tablet, they really don’t have to think about model differences. This is just a forum people issue not a real world one. Real people buy what they can afford, and there are totally different starting prices.

Absolutely beautiful. Hopefully it will be $150-200 dollars cheaper than the iPad pro and I will get it. I only use my tablet for browsing, streaming, social media and multitasking. So don't need the iPad Pro, but I would love to have the same design.
I hope you have not soured on your recently purchased Android tablet already?

Where I disagree is that my wife needs a new ipad. I want to get her the cheapest one that makes sense given her needs, the expected longevity of the device, compatibility with pencils and keyboards that we have sitting around from old devices, the expected plan to hand it down to my daughter in a couple years, etc. So here I go, from page to page, trying to figure out what’s what. Not clear at all.

exactly.... then it came the time well Apple increased the price of their devices by +50% or more... like with...
$699 iPhone to $999 iPhone X
$499 iPad (Air) to $799 iPad Pro

and the same they did with the Mac Mini and some other products like iPad cases...

I actually think the tablets are relatively reasonably priced. Of course as a customer I would argue $699/799 is ideal pricing for the 11/12.9 Pros.

And the 12.9 at $200 more expensive than the 11 is odd though. $799/899 should have been the pricing really; not $799/999. Stick this new Air in at $549 and then you have a low end ipad at $329 still.

I think it really exposes how overpriced the phones are. How much more materials and "stuff" you get in the iPad than the phone. Much larger display and more actual materials- usually the next step up processor, more RAM, bigger batteries- more "stuff"

When a base 64gb Pro Max is more expensive than a 128gb base 12.9 iPad with 120hz, better processor, more RAM etc

Apple’s net margins are around 20%.
38% GPM. What's the point of exaggerating?
If i wasnt exaggerating, how they do so much money after all? The extra cost of the product based on components is around 300%
It its simple math
They cant keep the same prices like 10 years ago when the economy is growing, the components and logistics are growing
I know people these days wants everything for free...but when you have your own company...you change your mind and see things far more different
Customers vote with their wallets for the prices...if nobody would buy an iphone/ipad, the prices and profits for apple would decrease 100% and the other will follow, because lets be real, if an iphone 11 pro would cost 500$, the android high end cant keep the 1000-1500$ price point
But again, a lot of people like to complain about the prices...their choice...but i hope those who complain, will not buy ! otherwise they are the definition of hypocrite

You might want to study up a bit to better understand what profit margin means, whether gross or net, and what is included with respect to costs.

TouchID on the power button seems like a nightmare for case manufacturers. Has this been an issue with Android phones?

Looking good.

Then the autumnal iPad lineup could be:

- iPad Mini (might get updated specs-wise at the same time);

- this new 10.8” iPad can then replace 10.5” iPad Air 3, or both Air 3 and iPad 7;

- iPad Pro 11” & 12” (will probably be updated in the spring 2021, as usual).

Makes sense, no?

I’m exzooyted to buy this new iPad. Itching to replace my ageing iPad Air 2. I wish it will be released this September.

In theory this would replace the 10.5. The 9.7 form factor is also dead

It would be 10.2 (like iphone SE/budget), 10.8 Air (like XR/11), 11 Pro (Pro) and 12.9 Pro (Pro Max)

There are ample people who want an appox 11 inch display device but not for $799; but also not the budget $329 one with Touch ID and thick bezels

This Air/10.8 would replace the Air in that middle ground. Closer to a Pro look/features without the Pro pricepoint. Think iPhone XR/11; no touch ID and thick 2010 bezels budge device, but not Pro specs either. Presumably at the $499-550 price point.

It will sell a ton in that middle ground.

This makes sense to me, because Apple bumped the entry level 9.7 up to 10.2 in Sep. 2019, when the 10.5 Air was already out, and it suddenly looked like there wasn't much difference between entry level and Air. If you bump the Air up to 10.8, it would be easier for the average consumer to distinguish the two.

The real announcement can’t come soon enough. These conflicting (conflated?) rumors are a little annoying. I doubt the entry level and Air will both be redesigned. These schematics do contradict the alleged leaked user manual for the Air, which shows no Face ID and has quad speakers. I’d consider the Air if it had quad speakers. Otherwise, I’d rather just go Mini again or finally go Pro.

I think the important thing is that most new iPads have 6GB of RAM. With the convergence of he code base with the Mac, Apple needs to keep thee iPad as a viable alternative to the more expensive Macs which would have 8/16/32. But at least App developers can be persuaded to move more and more of their Macs apps to the iPad. Two platforms in sync for consumers and developers. It would also help keep Apple way ahead of MS and Google.

I don't care how much it costs I'll be swiping my company CC for the LTE model the day this is announced.
