Lol. I’m almost afraid to know the retail price.

Starting at $1,999, the Foldable iPhone is the world’s most advanced iPhone ever!

This will probably sell as well as the mini did. I imagine they are going to do a foldable though just for the sake of doing one.

The iPad Mini uses an A17 chip. There's no need to put an M-series chip in there unless they're just trying to increase the ASP. I'm not sure that it would be useful due to power constraints either.
Completely agree with this, especially since by then the A20 or whatever will probably be approaching speeds of the M3 and M4, but with significantly more power efficiency.

Definitely not mini in price, but I think I will upgrade anyway. I'll be able to overlook the 0.09" increase in size.
Keep in mind that a folding phone will have weird aspect ratios. When unfolded the screen is almost square so to compensate for that the outer screen will be narrow and elongated. I assume the outer screen will be narrower than the mini.

But yeah, not mini in price nor in thickness or weight.

They should just call it a flip phone because thats basically what it is. A foldable phone is like a flip phone it just folds the other way. Either way I hope this phone is in the $400 range not $500 or up.

If Apples comes out with a foldable phone, the cost will kill most mini obsessed people from buying it.
Not necessary. I bought a mini because of its ergonomics and not the price. I have never bought a Pro/regular/Max simply because I hate using big phones. I drop them and despise their size as I have an active lifestyle and being able to use a phone one-handed while on a run is vital for me.

this news makes me instantly interested, as my 12 mini successor. Price wasn’t the attraction to the mini, it’s the size. I would gladly pay top tier pricing. A mini-sized pro iPhone that opens up to a larger screen when I need it sounds amazing.
If this is an Apple version of the Oppo Find N, im in.

I wonder if Apple will finally support true multitasking. That would be incredibly useful on a large screen, especially one with something close to a square aspect ratio.

Android has been supporting true multitasking on their phones for years.

Eagerly waiting to see the 1st foldable from Apple. Will not be surprised if it has an unusual aspect ratio. Expecting it to be priced at a minimum of $1499 but most probably it will be closer to $1999

depending on its cameras, it should be the cost of an equivalent iphone + ipad mini cost, so min $1300

Why do some people want a foldable phone so much?

Why would you want to see a hinge or a crease in the way of the screen?

idk, I want a smaller phone so I can operate it one handed, not because it does/doesn't fit in my pocket. This feels more like a gimmick to me than actually useful. If I want something with a larger, display I'll use an iPad or MacBook
As someone who owned a couple Z Folds, I can assure you it isn't a gimmick. It was the coolest phone tech I've ever owned by far. Apple fans who decried Samsung the last several years will have their minds blown and begin salivating when Apple does it, naturally.

Because it's a superior viewing experience to any normal sized slab phone. Just like using the iPad offers better usability in all tasks compared to a phone

Yep

iPhone fans also downplayed

Oled displays
Wireless charging

But was great when iPhone got it.

Did some quick math and the results I got look funny. Assuming a book style fold. A closed diagonal of 5.5”, an open diagonal of 7.8”. The open height is the same as the closed height. And the open width is twice (2x) the closed width and a rectangle display.

The math says the closed display is about 3.2”x4.4” (w x h) and the open display is about 6.4”x4.4”.
