Buying this the moment it is announced and for sale. My Mini 5 is showing its age when it comes to using it with my drone controller.
And how do you know that? A voice in your head told you?you are the rare ones
True! It still amazes me that we still have a mute button.Apple is not exactly known for common sense. Back in the day they used to follow the Human Interface Guidelines that they themselves created. But since they threw those in the toilet when they started most of the current interface hide and seek changes I could absolutely see them doing something stupid like removing a headphone jack or substituting face recognition for the touch ID.
If the iPad was buttonless, how would we turn it back on after it was shut down?I'm wondering what's keeping Apple from making a button-less iPad where everything is controlled from the display.
Jobs was talking about how poor the experience was using a stylus as the only way for basic navigation on phones and tablets. See the HTC TyTyn/Vario II running Windows Mobile around the time the iPhone was announced. I had one, it was a Swiss Army knife at the time, I loved it, but it was clearly an awful experience for basic tasks.I wonder what Steve Jobs would have thought about a stylus on the iPad. 🤣
then they would be blocked if you have it in a folio case or in a landscape keyboard mount. There will always be small compromises needed to accommodate the different orientations. What's wrong with putting them on the left side like it always has been on iPhones?
Oh, no one ever thought of that!I suppose it never came up at apple that hard , sharp cornered devices are very fatiguing to hold for any period of time?
This. I have a Kindle Paperwhite and Amazon puts the power button on the bottom where your fingers go when holding it. it would be OK if you could rotate it 180deg, but that's not availabe. This is the first time they’ve been moved on an iPad since they first came out in 2010. What else is Apple going to do with such a small device and accommodate the Pencil and Smart Connector keyboard cases? As a Kindle Fire owner, Apple is a rock compared to Amazon’s penchant for putting buttons wherever it feels .

Maybe a dongle? Apple is big on dongles. If the iPad was buttonless, how would we turn it back on after it was shut down?
I’m still disappointed they moved the power button to the side on iPhones (and didn’t change it back at least on the iPhone mini).UI changes like this are infuriating. Oh, people know where the buttons are? Time to move them.
About time they do that for all iPads.I wonder if the up/down volume assignment will change depending on which side is up in landscape orientation. It probably won’t, but I’d like that.
It looks like, in portrait, volume down would be done by pressing the left button and volume up would be done by pressing the right button. Similar to the Mac keyboard. Left is less and Right is more.I wonder if the up/down volume assignment will change depending on which side is up in landscape orientation. It probably won’t, but I’d like that.
The current volume buttons in landscape annoys meIt looks like, in portrait, volume down would be done by pressing the left button and volume up would be done by pressing the right button. Similar to the Mac keyboard. Left is less and Right is more.
Rotated to landscape the volume down (left) button would be down and the volume up (right) button would be up.
Seems like this would be a natural mapping to expectations. Nothing to change.
The image clearly shows speakers added to the top side so that the iPad mini will be on parity with other iPads that you can watch videos while the iPad is rotated to horizontal usage. Hope that turns out to be true. The main reason for moving the volume buttons appears to be to fit the Apple Pencil on the right edge of the device.
