Almost 2 years now with my Pebble Time Round and nothing has come out that remotely interests me to replace it. I'm contemplating buying another one as a backup but I'm worried that iOS 11 or some other update will break some of the functionality and that'll be it with no one to support and update the App.

On a side note, Amazon has heavily discounted their prices on Pebble Watches since they went under. Tempting prices and their software is still supported.

Honestly, that screen is an engineering miracle. I wish that one of the developers there would give a talk on just what went into that display because I've never seen anything like it. The animations, on colored e-ink, are truly breathtaking if you know anything about the refresh rates of e-ink.

Pebble did a lot of things right. Their CEO, Eric Migicovsky became complacent in a shaky wearable market and undermined the companies opportunity to expand the product line. When they finally did, Apple impacted the market. Also, I feel Pebble failed to market their product line appropriately, which I am shocked how many had no idea Pebble was even in a player in this game. I don't recall seeing any advertisements boasting their line up besides through Kick Starter.
In my opinion, Pebble was the first true smartwatch on the market.

They were. That was actually their claim before Apple or Fitbit launched.

I know, I owned the first generation as I was a backer. ;)

What I meant was it was the first one with the comprehensive model (device, paired to phone, store/directory to get more apps/functionality) that laid the (barebones) framework for the modern smartwatch.

Watch looks slim and beautiful

Beautiful? Not even close. Even if the watch looks slim, does that hide the lack of hardware physical design they could have updated on this device? No. I agree with @HoosBruce. It Has a completely awkward design, large bezels and They labeled Fitbit under the Display, which is completely un-necessary. Not to mention how easy the display scratches.

You Have to look past "Slim and beautiful" to truly appreciate this device. Even if it is functional.

I'm going to predict that this watch is never produced. That this thing never sees the light of day.

It would be a foolish CEO of any company to just burn money for no reason for a product with absolutely no chance to recoup even a tiny fraction of its production costs.

The problem is not even related to how it looks or what it can offer. The problem is with the waterproofing.
I still can't understand how is it possible that a company like fitbit can't make waterproof stuff.
The only reason why I still didn't buy a fitbit to upgrade my old one, was simply because of that. I don't want to constantly worry about rain, or a splash of water whenever I wash my hands. Or even forgetting to take it out before taking a shower.

I think the issue with waterproofing is also the warranty aspect which I would imagine would cost quite a bit.

Fitbit Blaze is really well made and honestly, they should just make another blaze but using metal like the Alta or Charge HR2 instead of the plastic used at the moment.

Yes. I have a Blaze because what I want is a single purpose fitness tracker with a few bells and whistles. If I wanted a Smart Watch, i would buy an Apple Watch. However, this is Macrumors and it's a distinct possibility that many on here are predisposed to Apple products. But what about those who are not predisposed to the Apple brand, infrastructure and premium prices? A cheaper Smartwatch for the non-Apple inclined market may work to fill a gap in the market that even the cheapest Apple Watch doesn't currently cater for. If I did not already have multiple Apple products (many really do not), then yeah, I might go for a Fitbit SmartWatch.
