As long the iPhone 12 Pro "5.8 or 6.1" gets it I'm fine.

Not wanting to get another Max due to it's enormous size.

The most expensive iPhones getting the best tech like a smaller notch and ProMotion wouldn’t really be surprising. Nor would the mid-tier staying with an A13 or other differences that could keep costs down. You consider that disgusting? Huh, ok 🤷‍♂️

PS I wouldn’t expect them to cut the resolution of the 6.1” model.

Just to chime in: I wouldn't call it disgusting, but the way Tim's Apple segregates features (even the most vanilla) that might as well be standard across the board (premium, mid-tier and budget SKUs) is getting ridiculous: be it lightning vs USBc, pencils, U1 chips, or even those damn iOS wallpapers.

Hard pass on the 6.7 Pro incoming. The next smallest ‘Pro’ will be my upgrade this year, and I’ve reverted my media-viewing on anything else larger to my iPads. I’ve reached a point where I don’t need to carry something so large/cumbersome in my pocket. Technological advancements is amazing, but not compelling enough where it’s a chore to put in your pocket.

Dear Macrumours - please stop labelling these as "schematics"! As an hardware engineer I always get excited by the news headline - only to have my excitement dampened when I realise it's just a drawing that hundreds of sub-suppliers (will) have access to.

A schematic, or schematic diagram, is a representation of the elements of a system using abstract, graphic symbols.

For electronic equipment a schematic always refers to the circuit diagram in my decades of industry work.

These are (CAD) drawings.

Real iPhone schematics (circuit diagrams) are much rarer to get hold of (and IMO more interesting)!

I like the one where, in the iPhone 7, only one of the two PCIe channels is connected to the Nand. mercy be if it runs too fast.

If the notch is such a great idea, why make it any slimmer?

You’re making it sound like the notch was strictly an ‘aesthetic choice’ without any technology embedded inside of it. As technology matures, so does the evolution of the design moving forward. That’s what you’re missing from your understanding of the ‘notch’ in general.

Tim Cook is still contemplating that stupid notch design.

No, he is not. The final iPhone design Was completed last year in early fall. This ‘info‘ is just now leaking, there’s no ‘contemplation’ when production is slated to start in early/mid July for this phone.

[And your definition of stupid is entirely subjective....]

Smaller notch this year. No notch in 2023.

What makes you so sure about that because Tim Cook is terrible in leadership.

No. It's not a sure thing.

Exactly my thoughts, plus my right thumb is always in pain of using something so big.

Whenever I wanna do some serious media consumption I either watch it in my 16" or my OLED at the end of the day.. So yeah big regret on the Max purchase from me.

The notch is essentially "the curse of Jony Ives". Someone now with authority over there has got to say "enough with this s%%t" and come out with a reasonable looking display (as opposed to ridiculous).
They really painted themselves into a corner with the notch - will be interesting over the years watching them trying to backtrack away from it

If there is one thing I hate about the current iPhones its the notch!
I just can't get use to it!
I guess the solution is to go under the screen eventually.

It´s only me or the smaller it is the uglier it becomes?

I was just going to make a post saying the same thing!

The smaller it gets, the more and more it looks like those ugly LG/Huawei/and Android phones.

However, Apple has a way to make things look a lot better than those phones.

This is the new world according to Tim's Apple. Better choices/price points for consumers. The old Apple, you can buy any car you like as long as it's black, wasn't any more of a nirvana than the current Apple.

Sure, bigger bezels, or a big forehead or chin is a much more aesthetic way to go. /s Phone designs change every few years anyway, so Apple is not so much backtracking, but progressing toward a different phone design.

It seems some of the critics are convinced Apple did this out of laziness.

Not everybody thinks the display looks ridiculous.

Some of you are going to be complaining about the notch until the sun runs out of hydrogen. It's like Tim Cook came to your house and gave you a wedgie in front of your neighbours or something.

Yes, the camera will eventually go under the screen, but the tech isn't ready yet. If the tech was even close to ready, all of the Chinese manufacturers would be trying to rush half-baked implementations of it to the market. Think about it.

Reading this at my desk this morning. All of these comments about a notch that no one on MR has control over but no comments about the speaker in the bezel. Looking at my XS I am wondering how the speaker integrated into the bezel will affect cases. I have a pretty basic Spiegen case on my XS, that has been VERY good BTW, I'm not sure how that is going to work out. Also, holding the phone to my ear in a different position seems a bit odd, but perhaps it would be a new normal after a short period of time.

My only comment regarding the notch is I sure hope this brings back the battery % indicator. That tiny icon leaves a lot to be desired. How about NO icon and just a %? Give us a choice!

I feel the same way. I value portability and one-handed operation when I am mobile. At home, phone goes on the charger and iPad is my primary device for media consumption and communication. Great alarm clock too!

That’s hilarious 🤣

There’ll be a thin metal edge around the glass when looking at the phone from the front, much like on the iPad Pro if you’ve seen one in person. There’ll still be plenty of room for cases to grab onto.
