Yea, the current mac mini already has way more internal space than the 14 inch macbook pro, so it wouldn't have to be bigger to accomodate the M1 Max

M1 and thus most likely M2 (and M2 Pro/Max) use 'unified RAM'. It is part of the non-user-expandable package. So with 99% certainty: it will not be user expandable. Expandable storage might be, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one either, seeing Apple did not make that happen in any of their recent machines.

You should reset your expectations. Memory isn't ever coming back off the SoC. It's a central feature to performance of every aspect of Apple Silicon. Every single aspect. Without memory fabric, there's NO Apple Silicon. Without memory integrated into the SoC, there's no memory fabric. So stop.

All M1 chip variations have unified memory so that's probably impossible. But adding more storage would be welcome!
