This may be the Mac model that uses the "dual" M1 Max setup and runs it at a higher clock speed (since there are not battery and thermal limitations).

I recognize and appreciate that the RAM won't be expandable or serviceable.

But I see absolutely no reason why they can't include an m.2 slot for storage expansion. Especially if it's actually that "thick". If this shows up under $2k for base model with storage expansion ability, I'm a day one preorder. If the display is under $1500 I'm preordering that, too, assuming it has the same capabilities the ATD had with the ports, webcam, speakers etc.

I have been holding off on getting a desktop to complement/replace my laptop now that I'm fully remote for work. As much as I would love a 5k imac, it just seems silly to invest so much in what is essentially old tech at this point. Now if they release the 27" M imac, I'll have some decisions to make...

So, too big to just be a Pro/Max CPU with a larger fan, too small to hold PCIe expansion cards...

If Apple ever allowed user-expandable memory, it would likely be as a Level 4 (Level 5?) cache, leaving the on-chip memory as the "true" RAM, which would throw the entire computer pundit industry for a loop.

"How much RAM does it have? 32GB, expandable to 512GB. Sort of. And the 32GB is still there and is the only real RAM, but things are super fast and we like it, but now the numbers are weird and we don't know what to think anymore or how to compare it."

memory - not really, since its basically integrated into the SoC
m.2 storage - why not? maybe not replaceable, but expandable (additional m.2 slot or two)

Merge regular (size) Mac Mini computer with something like OWC Express 4M2: https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/express-4m2, all in ONE case?

That would yield up to 8TB (maybe 16TB if DUO is real) of super-fast Apple storage (that would have to be decided and purchased up front) and up to 32TB in up to 4 M.2 SSDs that could be added when desired. Maybe less Thunderbolt jacks on the outside than that render might imply to use those PCIe channels INSIDE for this M2 RAID setup?

I know it seems unlikely but that would be a very impressive little MAC. Reality? I'm guessing big heat sink/fan for DUO config.

My money is on that this render is not real. The scale of the render looks like it's taking up way more room that what the internals from a MacBook Pro would even use (and that includes room for batteries in the laptop). And yet it doesn't look big enough to be user configurable. It just doesn't make sense in my opinion. If there is a more powerful mini-like options announced tomorrow... I think the footprint will the same or smaller than the current mini.

Reminds me of the original Mac mini

Well just in case y'all didn't notice, design of the current MacBook lineup is also very reminiscent of the late PowerBook G4 and first MBPs. Kinda feels as if the 2020s were a back-to-basics era for Apple.

But to be honest, I liked the old ones better.

If they come from Luke they will have been made up by he and his friend who makes them, I really wouldn’t class them as official leaks or anything. Looks nice though.
He got the design of the new MacBook Pro's from last year right… in July. I don't think that's half bad.

Did he? He is claiming he made this from information from ‘his sources’, so he is claiming to have sources no one else does, and he also claims their will be no new laptops launched tomorrow, it’ll effectively only be a new iPhone Pro colour and this Mac Studio. We shall see.
But I think it makes for a nice compact machine, can see lots of users buying it price dependant of course.

Best renders we've seen for a while.

I'm looking at you Car and VR Headset.

You would too if you had seen the leaked ransomware renders.

taller I can believe, but since cooling is usually the driving force on these types of units I just don't see it needing to be that tall - not with the architecture Apple has been showing. With memory on-chip now the only other potentially user-serviceable part is storage, but with Apple not really using hard drives anymore even if you have 2 M.2 slots and make them both user-serviceable it still wouldn't need to be this tall. Now if it is going to become skinnier all bets are off. I wouldn't mind that myself. It could look like the last Airport Extreme for all I care - I just want some serious performance out of it.

So you think he has based his renders on information given to him from apparently real internal secret Apple documents that were stolen. Yeah forgive me for not trusting that in the slightest.
