Going from the X to the 14 Pro, the difference is noticeable and the novelty most certainly hasn't worn off.

Kinda what else do you expect if you're upgrading every year.

What did you expect? The iPhone is a mature product now. I knew what I was getting into when I traded up from my 13 PM and I like what this new phone is all about. Phones aren’t really meant to be exciting anymore, they’re just slight upgrades here and there and improvements in some areas. TBH I haven’t been super thrilled about a new iPhone since… the iPhone X? It is what is at this point.

The 2 year pld
I went from 12 Pro to 14 Pro Max and agree with the Island boredom. Nothing uses it. I was so excited for it, but its just like the TouchBar in my MacBook. Looks cool and good idea, but never use it. I'm just thrilled for the better screen and battery life from my 2 year old phone that was showing it's age
The 2 year old $15 battery was showing its age you mean...

NGL I was mesmerized by the ingenuity of Dynamic Island when I first saw it during the keynote. I looked forward to the new iPhone but most of all looked forward to “taking a trip” to Dynamic Island. Well, the trip was sweet and short. The good thing about Dynamic Island is that it’s very subtle, never in your face. Maybe that’s because hardly any apps take advantage of it yet. Understandably, it’s still in its infancy, and because its primary job is status updates, it requires very little user interaction, if any at all. The thing is that there’s only so much excitement and joy one can derive from a status bar. Although Dynamic Island may seem like an overhyped place to visit, I do believe it will end up having the biggest impact on user experience over time as it matures.

But for now, iPhone 14 Pro minus Dynamic Island is just a very, how do I say it without causing fracas, a very underwhelming iPhone, especially if you’re coming from iPhone 13 Pro like me.

I had the same experience when I bought a new toaster. The novelty always fades, so back to the shopping mall!

That first sentence is only true if you only live within the Apple ecosystem. Exit that system and there are all kinds of fascinating phones.

My latest purchase was a security based phone called a Pinephone. You can do anything you want as it’s all Linux open source and now also the modem.

My next purchase? Xiaomi MIX Fold 2. Like the Pinephone you have to bring them in from China. But they are different and exciting phones in their own way. The foldable is the same size and width as a Pro Max - get your head around that - a foldable the same size as a iPhone 14 Pro Max.

You guys and gals are just stuck in the stagnant Apple ecosystem and can’t see out! I own and love iPhones and will probably upgrade to a 14 Pro Max. Then again I have a Blackberry Passport everyone was eye-balling in New York back in the day. They had fans called Crackberries but the company stopped innovating.

Nuff said…
That's great for you. My priorities are different. I want something secure, reliable, fast, and consistent. I do want innovations, but incremental ones are fine, because my priorities above all else are reliability and security. I have a family and a busy career and don't have spare time to geek on tech just for the sake of it. I need a tool to communicate and get stuff done. I also want to take great photos and videos, because I enjoy photography as a hobby, and I want to preserve great memories.

For me, Apple has always been the right choice. For others who want consistently fresh and new products with a lot of flexibility for tweaking, obviously offerings from other companies make sense to consider.

First 'Pro' version iPhone. 5se (best ever) -> XR -> 12 Mini -> 13 Mini -> 14 Pro

I appreciate the extra functionality/features, just need to get used to the weight like I did with the XR.

Odd. I'm loving every second of using mine.

Do you have any recommendations? This is something I'm concerned about coming from the 11PM
elago. Just ordered two of their cases and love the curved edges--not even edges, sides!

To combat the novelty, if I know I am going to be getting the new iPhone model, I will not upgrade the iOS. This way, my first impressions are also of the iOS and tends to increase the novelty of the new phone.

TBH giving your spouse a 4 year old phone while you buy a 14 Pro is like taking her out to dinner and asking her to watch you eat steak.
I look this way. My spouse likes when I show caring intentions. My iPhone X is in great condition and should be used until it's no longer usable. They need a new smartphone, and giving it to them helps extend the device's life. ALSO doesn't create E-WASTE for disposal of it. Hence factors beyond some people's capacity understanding of passing along to someone else.

Apple used to be in the innovative one. Now I see it as they may be a bit slower, but it will be better!

Did you ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe the iphone 14 pro max was not aimed at you and others like you who have the iphone 13? because the upgrade from 13 to 14 is very minimal thereby making the upgrade experience not so splendid as one would have hoped.
