The stock app never crashes on my iPhone 4S. The Gmail app is not really my cup of tea though

Quite exciting news.

Sparrow is a good app to have. I liked my limited time with it.

Worried about Google taking your info? Oh that's unfortunate since many of their services are pretty much staples in an average person's life... Maps, News, Images, Search, Gmail, etc.

I would like to k ow why you think that this is exciting news?

From what I understand, the Sparrow team is being disbanded into Google and assimilated into different teams, but of course, I could be wrong.

Yes that's it.

They are a very talented team, and only make Google teams better. As someone who uses Apple products with Google services, this is great.

I swear if my app icon changes to those hideous colors, Sparrow is going in the trash... And if I'm forced to log into my gmail before using the app it will also be in the trash.

I think you paid money for an app and you got the app you paid for. No app comes with guarantees of updates for life, or guarantees that it won't get bought out by people who you disagree with for purely asinine reasons.

Well Apple disagreed with you and refunded me.

I never said I disagreed with Google buying them out, what irked me was that they had to know it was being sold when they placed it on sale. To me that was a money grab. And yeah I expect some sort of service after I buy something, not one week.

Regardless of whether you were logged in or not. Logging in only changes what you see, not what Google sees.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Ad block software is your friend." Especially when it comes to Google.

When you sign-in to a Google account that allows Google to collate the information from all the Google services the account holder utilizes. The information is associated with the user's name, e-mail address, friends, etc.

If you do not sign-in, Google cannot collate the information gathered by its myriad services. You are identified by your IP address but that can be mitigated by using a VPN or Tor. Ad blocking software does not shield your IP address nor does it prevent tracking cookies from being placed on your computer unless the ad blocking program has that feature.

FWIW, it's my ad blocking subscription that has that feature.

What ad blocking service do you use? I'd like to give it a look...
EasyPrivacy and EasyList (with Adblock Plus). I don't think I'm allowed to link to it but any search engine will take you to it. I use it with Firefox, but IIRC they have subscriptions for Chrome and IE9 (for those so inclined).

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I prefer Safari to Firefox... I currently use AdBlock and Ghostery with Safari. But I will try your suggestions with Firefox and see how I like it.

I looked into that and i didn't find anything satin no more thunderbird. Seems like it will be more open source updates

Yes, after reading a couple of other articles T-Bird is being spun off to open source dev. Then again, Sunbird did too, and that's kind of withering on the vine.

Yes, and at just about the time they announced their acquisition they posted a new version of the iOS app which does implement push technology.

In the past couple of weeks I've been using Sparrow just to see what would happen. In general I'm very happy with it. Only complaint is the way it handles spam. Yes, you can send spam to a special mailbox once it shows up in your inbox, but it doesn't appear to be "teachable" (as nearly as I can tell) and there's no spam filtration such as Apple Mail has. I would think that most Mac owners who prefer to use Sparrow will want to try teaming it up with some third-party spam filtration system. With this one exception, Sparrow is about as good an e-mail client as Apple Mail, and I can imagine a lot of people might prefer its interface.

more than a year later, Google is not updating Sparrow for mac, or for iphone and the ipad version is vaporware...

:(

Just recently an update came out for Sparrow, albeit not a great one so I thought I might suggest an alternative app to you all. It's called Airmail and it's not bad at all.
