If Apple released a notchless phone this September, I would love to see how many people that have the X "love" their notch.

I can see a Smaller notch in Septmeber yes.

There will be notch until Apple figures how to implement a camera, facial recognition and infra red under the display.

You can still have the stereo speakers on top and bottom.

Otherwise you will have at least a forehead of a bezel with parts on top even if ever so skinny and will still not be edge to edge.

Ok. I cannot comprehend “doesn’t bother me one bit” anymore. Just cannot understand. I give up.
Because it bothers you, and you hate it, means that it should bother everyone? Is everything in your life black and white? Love or hate? There aren’t things that are just “there” without an opinion one way or the other?
How do you get through life either loving or hating everything? The mood swings must be awful.
I cannot comprehend the “I will not buy another iPhone until they get rid of the notch” people. Dismissing this awesome phone because of something that, quite frankly, I don’t even notice, is crazy to me.

One again, don’t love it or hate it. It’s just there. I would take a new iPhone X with no notch.

I don’t think I’ve ever hated anything more, than that damn notch. I would tolerate a den of skunks living under my house, if it meant the notch was done away with tomorrow. The dumb thing is in the way of everything. And yes a decent compromise would be to fill the ears with time/battery/network display, regardless of the direction the phone is held. I also hate the rounded corners. I’m just holding out hope that at least one their new phones resembles a classic design.

Notch hissy fit thread #548.

If it wasn’t for threads like these I would forget it was even an issue. For those that actually have and use a X it’s such a non factor. The alternative is an ugly bezel at the top of the phone which no one would be happy with. Apple got this one right.

Yet such debate will go on as time goes on until the notch is truly away and we can enjoy truly edge to edge display like many large screen TV.

Will you being saying that in a couple of years when they eventually get rid of it?

Sorry, but I cannot imagine anyone saying the following: “Oh no! Why did they get rid of the notch!? I will miss it! *sad face* I’m not upgrading to that plain notchless phone that actually goes from edge to edge all around!”

You're being silly with this. Perhaps deliberately, but I think your frustrations with Apple are clouding your better judgement.

OF COURSE people will prefer the non-notch version when it eventually comes.

The notch is a compromise. People are obviously content with the compromise, as it allows a bezel-less design on 3/4 sides (don't go all "but they're still 4mm bezels!!"....you know what I mean).

Just think logically on what you've posted - that people won't buy a notch-less, completely bezel-free iPhone because they preferred the notch design......

Another one. Completely illogical/idiotic.

It’s NOT a TV. You can’t equate the two. A TV is not trying to cram everything into a 6” diagonal device. A TV doesn’t have cameras and speakers on the front. Your comparison is ridiculous.
You do realize the design is built around hardware limitations. Apple, or anyone for that matter, can’t magically make an edge to edge, bezelless notchless phone, that has all the hardware and functionality of current phones. Welcome to reality.

The Apple executives who finalized the design of the notch are in love with their notch. They think its distinctive looking. It ain't going away at least for many many years. The notch is here for good. (Or worse).

That’s awesome news.

We love the notch. We never want to see it go away. The iPhone X is Apple’s flagship device and the notch is its signature design feature, no different than BMW’s twin kidney grilles or Rolex’s oyster bracelet.

If we wanted to purchase a $300 phone that looked like every other phone we would have done that.

We didn’t.

Oh I don’t know, maybe those who bought an iPhone 8/8 Plus?

I mean i don't hate the notch at all. Sure if they released a full edge to edge i'm going to get it because i get every new phone lol

I'll take a Mercedes-AMG and Panerai / Hublot / IWC any day over your BMW and Rolex, respectively. Smh.

Hey bj. I'm an iPhone X owner now. Can I be your friend? :D

This.

The notch is a deliberate design choice. It makes the iPhone X recognisable as an iPhone. By far the most common sense implementation would be a narrow top and bottom bezel, but this would have made the iPhone look like any old phone.

Stupid, unnecessary vanity in my opinion but it is what it is - in a couple of years when the iPhone 8 reaches the end of its life, we’ll be pretty much stuck with it if we want to stay with Apple.
Well, considering all other companies are now making phones with notches, i think it wont make it anymore recognisable...

True. But in my own humble opinion those other companies are foolish. My opinion of the notch hasn’t changed - it was a clumsy, unattractive design choice. If Apple had never released a phone with a notch and any of those other companies had tried it, they’d have been universally mocked.

Oh man, that Huawei solution is how I always dreamed Apple would do it. I think that's so classy looking.

Apparently they disagree, though.

I guess the catch is that it's dependent on OLED screens and apparently they're making notch phones without them this year...? I guess that's what screws it all up as a design choice.

Yes, you can Ralfi. But only in an Apple forum. Anywhere else I can't be seen talking to a VW driver. You understand of course.

That's wonderful. When you actually possess those things please let me know.

The notch isn’t a problem as such but I don’t like the way they have arranged the icons around it, I’d prefer to have just the battery to the right, the cellular signal, WiFi and 4g to the left, and time under the notch or not displayed at all. As things are it all looks awkwardly squeezed in.

I love that this exists, but for me if it’s a separate motor that can break or a notch I’ll take the notch. Not to mention I’m skeptical of no receiver.

Indeed.
But the point really is that this DOES exist NOW and there is no going back from something like this.
Once it's been done, then it's a step that can't be un-done and can/should only mean things can then either get to where it is and pass it in time.

The motorized camera, yes, it could be an issue, but not insurmountable, if it have a lifespan of tens of thousands of operations, or some other mechanism.

If I'm honest, I've every only used the front facing camera about 3 times in 2 years on my phone, so really for me, and perhaps others that's a non issue anyway.

If nothing else, items like this, can only be good for us consumers as the BIG phone companies will see this, and know "WE" have seen it, and it will push and force them to move onwards :)
