iBank looks like a good option, if the iPhone app is an important consideration.

I would be drawn to MoneyDance, given what I have read elsewhere, but it too appears to fall short of what I need.

I'm really looking to learn more about how well Parallels is working out for those who may need to stay with Quicken, however frustrating.

Thanks

I've been using Quicken for Windows with Parallels for a couple years now. The set up and use is intermediate on the difficulty scale, especially if you use an USB printer to print checks. Parallels has gotten huge, upwards of 240 MB of disc space. Right now Quicken is the only thing I use parallels for and I'm looking for a native mac replacement for Quicken. It doesn't appear that Quicken essentials will fill the bill, I don't like iBank, still experimenting with MoneyDance.

Bottom line Parallels and Quicken does work fairly well.

Here's a simple list of many of the popular options people seem to be using. Maybe it will save someone a Google search or something

Personally I'm struggling deciding what path to go. I need something that:
  • Connect to my bank accounts,
  • Connects to my brokerage (not that I have much stock but looking forward I would hope to, and I's still like to see what's going on with what little I have)
  • Connects to my Mortgage company (just a different bank)
  • Export a file that can be imported into TurboTax
  • Set categories, etc.
QuickenOnline seems to be serving be fairly well, except TurboTax can connect to it, and QuickenOnline can't export anything except a .csv file

Any suggestions from anyone out there ? I'm almost considering Quicken Premier for Windows using VMWare Fusion.

Take a look at the features MoneyDance provides. I think it meets most of your requirements save for connecting to your mortgage account. While it may be another bank, it is not a traditional banking account (checking, savings, etc). I could be wrong but then again I am not using the online features.

Outside of that, I actively avoid Quicken anything. They lost me when they sunsetted my version of Quicken, taking with it my online banking. Quicken did this because I refused to upgrade to the LATEST version. Problem was, there were no new features I needed and I don't upgrade without need or cause.

Take care,

Final post for this thread

since i started this thread, i thought i would end it on my final decision. i have signed on with mint.com. granted, it does not have all the features that quicken had but i came to realize that i do not need to purchase a financial software to track my money. i just needed to make sure that something was not out of place, which mint.com is perfect for, espcially since it is free. i came to this conclusion based on a post by pprior. for those who would like to read that post, i am inserting a link. it really opened my eyes to what my true needs really are. i am now going on a week being quicken-free. to quote the late doctor king, i am free at last.

pprior's post

Thanks to everyone for their input and guidance. For those who have not decided, you might seriously think about completely dumping your need for a financial software.
