I have a 2,4GHz MacBook with the 9C89 screen, and while the viewing angle isn't anything to write home about, the picture quality and colour accuracy are pretty good, in my opinion. Of course, the first thing I do when I get a new Mac, is calibrate the display. Not with any fancy tools, just using my own vision. When I go back and forth between my calibrated profile and the 'Color LCD' profile that comes with the MacBook, I think I'd go crazy with the default setting. It's just so bright and blue; horrible! But with a good calibration, the display actually is pretty good. When seen from up front, that is. Looking at it from any other angle is another story altogether, really.

But from a strictly picture and colour perspective, the 9C89 is perfectly okay when well calibrated.

I use my laptop mainly for reading letters on the internet. Apple aa makes the letters appear slightly blurry, thus decreasing readability.

A 13" screen in OS X is about as readable to me as a 12" screen in Vista, when viewed from equal distance.

This picture shows the difference. Above Apple, MS below:

I'd take Apple's AA over Microsoft's any day. Sure, the example words look slightly sharper, but the spacing and kerning is way off. The top example is way better, in my opinion.

I got the 9c8c screen...

Straight on: It's been very good and looks amazing especially after calibration. Colours are very nice and blacks are deep, although there is a little blue tinting on the bottom 1/8 of the screen.

Horizontal viewing angle > Vertical, but that's expected. Tilting the screen helps when using MB on lap.

Reflections have not been a problem whatsoever. I think this issue is way overblown.

Overall, very satisfied with the screen quality. I guess I lucked out.

what?

sony is this good and it's $994.99 with
Core™ 2 Duo 2.0GHz
Vista Home Premium 64-bit
2 GB DDR2-SDRAM
160 GB Hard Disk Drive
DVD±R DL / DVD±RW / DVD-RAM Drive
?

Why apple? if sony can put this LCD for this price, you can also do that.

9c89 panel vs sony sr:

To me neither looks very good actually. But maybe that's because you have them at full brightness.

The SR may need some calibration too.

Could you run PC Wizard 2008 on the Sony to see what panel it has?

Macbook screen

Mine is 9C5F and its not so good. I can barely stand watching movies and TV shows on my Macbook. I miss my MBA.

I got the 9C89, it is great for bright/light color but for darker colors especially black.... oh man i dont want to talk about it

im fine with the glare reflections etc etc...just when you watch a clip or youtube that shows something dark then it becomes a problem otherwise it is a great screen

as much as I want to buy a new MacBook the screen is just not acceptable to me. Hope they improve it in the next revision.

I have the 9C8C, and it is amazing.

I wondered what the deal was with people bad mouthing the MB displays. I saw another one and understood the complaints slightly. I noticed gray like blacks on two that I saw at the Apple store. I don't understand why they would even use the other suppliers knowing how good the 9C8C, and the other one people were positive about.

My MB has the AU Optronics 9C8C, and I think it is just as good as the MBP displays.

The black is like a dark hole. The colors are vibrant. It is stunning. The glare has its moments, but I am used to the glossy screen now. Sometimes, I find myself just being amazed at the quality of the display. I look back at a screen like my Dell has, and I think "Man that is junk!"

Anyways, hope you all are as fortunate and happy with your displays as I am.

I have the 9C8C, and it is not amazing.

It's not bad though. It's better than the previous gen MacBook screen... really, they gave us Alu, they gave us back lighting, they gave us more video card (while yes still integrated) and a better screen... I swear, everyone expects a pro level screen out of a basic machine.

new screen?

my profile says i have screen model 00009C8B...

anyone else? It's a 2.4 alu mb. recently purchased.

I think it´s good, viewing angles are ok, no failures. Blacks are decent.

9C8B and I think it is horrible. Horrible contrast ratio, color quality. Only have to live with this for a few more weeks then comes the 17" MBP.

This opinion is based on my digital photo editing.

Both of mine have 9c8c. I'd say all in all, slightly worse than the fully functional panels I had with the Dell XPS M1330 (some had pretty bad backlights with that machine, so I guess it was the same sort of lottery). Certainly not a great panel by any stretch of the imagination - not a patch on the Air or my Sony's.

Just got one here a couple days ago (Aluminum 2.0 GHz)

Screen Model: 9CA5
Screen Part Number: LP133WX2-TLC5

Verdict is: pretty darn good, I think it's better than the displays they had going in the Apple store when I bought it. Overall, I'm satisfied with it.
