Sorry for making it sound like I don't believe you, but is there any chance you could post a screenshot of your 'Hardware' tab from System Profiler, as if this is true I'm going to invest in some more RAM,

Thanks,

Vel

Thanks for posting that - sorry for doubting you.
Question: does your slot 1 have 4GB of RAM already in it?
I'm curious if my Al_uMB 2.4Ghz has 2GB in Slot 1 + 2 I'm wondering if I can swap both out.

Sweet. This is by Far amongst the BEST offerings Apple has made to the consumer market - going outside their normal thinking & offerings - just like the Quad Core 2006 Mac Pro that can be CPU swapped.

Hi all,

a couple questions from a newbie,

I also have an Aluminium macbook, and would like to upgrade ram memory and hdd.

- can you help me to find a 2x4gb 200 pin ddr3 somewhere in Europe?( I've been trying, no luck...)
just found out that Alu MB doesn't take the same dimm sticks than MBP...

- is it worth it to upgrade to a 7200rpm hdd? (cant go for a ssd right now)

with this firmware update the 8gb upgrade should work, right?
Boot ROM Version: MB51.007D.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.32f8

thanks a lot for your help!

Where abouts in the EU are you based, and I personally think a 7200RPM drive is a worthy upgrade (it made a big difference to my GF's MB)

thanks for the reply,

I'm posting from Portugal,
anywhere inside EU would work, buying online outside EU it's much more expensive, tax reasons

did not expect to be so hard to find a 2x4gb ddr3 to upgrade my macbook :(

several online stores are selling (according to description at least) 204 pin ram sticks for the aluminium macbook (MB467LL) including crucial

knowing that the MBP and the MB alu don't take the same kind of ram (204pin the MBP VS 200pin the MB alu) somethings is wrong,

correct me if I'm wrong :)
thanks again

I have 2 204Pin DDR3 DIMM's in my MacBook Aluminum 2Ghz. I didn't even know it was 200Pin. Woops, I put one of the 200Pin DIMM's on my Thinkpad too. You sure it's 200Pin?

yes, you can be right, I though the same, but then I've saw the following in the MacBook_13inch_Aluminum_Late2008.pdf manual page 42

Installing Additional Memory
Your computer has two memory slots that you access by removing the battery and bottom case. Your MacBook comes with a minimum of 2 gigabytes (GB) of 1066 MHz Double Data Rate (DDR3) Synchronous Dynamic Random-Access Memory (SDRAM) installed. Each memory slot can accept an SDRAM module that meets the following specifications:
Double Data Rate Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (DDR3) format  1.25 inch (3.18 cm)  1 GB or 2 GB  200-pin
 PC3-8500 DDR3 1066 MHz Type RAM
You can add two 2 GB memory modules for a maximum of 4 GB of memory. For best performance, fill both memory slots and install an identical memory module in each slot

confusing...
it must be a typo.

Agreement for the whole thread. I have the 2.4 late 08 Aluminum and it's super solid. Runs great, no need for a macbook pro.
