Or get a hub. FireWire 800 could run 2 FW400 devices at full speed.
...which would be much more expensive than daisy-chaining the needed drives.

Sorry, it's a bit off-topic, but what are Firewire hubs good for anyway? I know there are some devices which have only port and thus can only be at the end of a chain. So there might a (very) few applications for a hub if you need to connect more than one of these at once. But otherwise... what are FW hubs made for?

sounds pretty sweet...will there also be an update at mac world? because I probably would not get one until then anyway

Yeah I really meant for devices that don't daisy chain. But if you have ONLY FW400 devices then you are better off with a FW800-2xFW400 adaptor so that both chains can run at 400mbps, otherwise you are effectively wasting half the speed of the FW800 port aren't you? (ie. 4 drives - 200mbps per drive rather than 100 per drive.)

They tried that already. Was made obsolete by it's sexier cousin aluminum.
I think Titanium is more sexy. I actually think the Titanium PowerBook G4 looks better than any of the Aluminium PowerBook G4s and MacBook Pros:

I would never buy a Dell in a million years but I would gladly buy an old Titanium PowerBook G4. I wish I had one. :(

You already know of my hatred for dell. (POS remember?) As it so happens that is almost the same model that I have sitting around here. WORST MADE COMPUTER EVER.

I think most of us can agree that the chances of Apple phasing out FireWire are remote at best... FireWire still beats USB hands down on actual throughput...and let's not forget that FireWire can be used to boot a Mac. This isn't an interface Apple will be getting rid of anytime soon. Especially with the new specifications coming out soon. ;) After all, something has to show up USB 3.0...

Well, apparently Apple decided to 'think different'...and shoot itself in the foot. Removing FireWire is a major step backward. Hopefully they'll realize their mistake and reverse course with the next hardware refresh (the next real one, not the bump in specs that's bound to come before a real refresh).
