i'm tempted after reading some of this to try and set up as new again, but i don't really know if i want to go through that hassle with all the faces i've set up and settings adjustments i made. and i don't really expect it would make a difference. but still tempted. went to bed with watch at 97% or so. took it off and skipped the sleep tracking and didn't wear it. woke up to it around 87% (strange that it lost 10% overnight with no activity, but it was probably 8-10 hours). it's now a little after noon (about 5 hours later) and it is down to 73% without really doing a whole lot with it and AOD off. maybe that's normal.

And now it's 4 hours later and I've only dropped 9%. Which is excellent. Strange. But good. Have not used the watch much at all beyond simply wearing it the last several hours. Seems like it drops about 1% per hour when not used or worn at all, which seems reasonable. And only slightly faster (maybe 2% per hour) when worn and not used except sparingly. With pretty regular use that jumps to 3 or 4% per hour. So that all seems reasonable.

Will turn AOD back on maybe in a day or two and compare. But I find that I just don't have any real reason to utilize AOD personally. When I want to look at my watch, I always raise my wrist anyway. It's a very cool feature but doesn't seem that necessary, at least not for me. And if it saves battery to not use it, even just a little, I'll probably keep it off.

For those of you that find it useful, what about it do you like?

I like being able to discretely see the time (and current temperature) in a meeting. I don’t want to make it obvious to anyone (by raising my arm) as that may seem directful to the speaker (even though I may be bored with the speaker). :)

I also like it when I’m biking outdoors. I can see my average speed without having to compromise the control of my bike by letting go of one of the handlebars.

I simply use it all the time.

You would not believe how much pushback I've gotten on here when I've said the exact same thing.

Raising the arm to look at your watch is a very impolite gesture. Just try to do it to your crush, boy/girl friend, spouse, partner and you will know what I mean. The AOD is such an important feature and shouldn’t be turned off. What’s the point to save 5-10% of battery when we all charge the thing at night (esp with fast charging on the S7)? Guess what? The best way to save most of the battery is to turn the god darn thing off.

it’s just like turning off the air conditioning or heater in a car during extreme weather just in order to save some fuel when you don’t have any long trip to go. ?

just enjoy your freaking gadget and don’t be paranoid to micromanage everything which defeats the very purpose of the device.

All makes sense, though I will say in just the 24 hours I experimented with it, I get what feels like way more than an extra 5-10%. After everything posted above, I still had more than 25% after an entire night of wearing the watch after charging it up yesterday morning. Huge difference. Maybe I’m forgetting something I did or didn’t do before, or maybe my watch was still adjusting to something because it was so new and now it has settled in. But it was a big difference. Will keep testing it out. I’m sure I’ll eventually stop caring, and probably turn AOF back on full time. But for now the extra battery life I saw was significant enough that I’m tempted to leave it off. And as I said, for me, I don’t really seem to use AOD as much, so to each his own.
