Not false advertising. Works as advertised on my 14PM.

Yeah there must be an issue with some then. It’s 8:20pm, I’m at work with my phone out and it’s turning off after a few minutes. Very annoying. It’s dark outside so I assume it thinks it’s in a pocket, but I should be able to control that. I want my display on. Otherwise, why did I pay for this phone?

I hear you. For me, I know it’s on because the phone is on the night table. If I get up during the night I can see the display.

Don’t know why then always on display is not so for some.

I could imagine them programming it to turn off in spaces with low light such as in a bedroom or at the movies. Strange how inconsistent it seems to be.

I just did my own test with time settings.

I keep my phone on automatic time settings.

I decided to change my phones time to manual and set it to 4pm. The AOD did not shut off. Once I set it back to automatic (10pm) it started shutting off again.

Clearly on my phone, it’s time based. Get rid of this apple!

I had a feeling it might be connected to time. My AOD never seems to turn off during the day, but turns off all the time when I’m in a semi-dark room after 11pm.

So I just got off the phone with apple support and apparently it’s a known issue, yet also working as intended. I guess apple engineers think people don’t use the AOD at night. Which just seems absurd.

At the very least, it should be customizable.

Anyone notice a difference after 16.3? After updating yesterday, I walked into my room where my phone is and put the light on and I'm sure it woke from blank as the screen was on when I walked up to it.

No improvement for me unfortunately.

Mine doesn’t seem quite as bad as it was with 16.2, but it still turns itself off too often. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

I can now report back that the problem is no better after 16.3.

I listened to a podcast in the dark at 11pm last night and everything was ok until about 10 past midnight and the screen suddenly went off and refused to stay on.

Yeah it’s still absurdly bad. This is one of the most annoying iOS bugs for me — I absolutely hate it and can’t fathom why this would be “working as intended.”

This is ridiculous, how the **** can they market this as an "Always on display" and literally decide to blanket turn it off for everyone at late hours?

I do most of the time at my desk (when AOD would be neede) in the late hours at night before going to bed. The phone is basically always off. Where can we report this?

I'm having issues on my "Always on display" as well for my iPhone 14 Pro running 16.3. From my experience: Whenever I place my iPhone 14 Pro on my Qi wireless charger, it would work fine for about 30secs before it would turn blank. If I place my phone elsewhere (not on the Qi wireless charger), it starts behaving normally.

I wonder if it's a bug with 16.3.

You can report your bug here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone/

I agree with you - it seems ridiculous that the AOD is not working when one of the main features of iPhone 14 Pro is the "Always on display."

Same here, iPhone 14 pro Max, 16.2 was just fine. No problem at all. Started with 16.3. And only nights.
I hope they solve this soon.

For me it started in 16.2, but anyway, it always happens at night, wether I'm charging or not. I already checked all the conditions on Apple's website and nothing on that list is active on my phone to trigger it to turn off.

It's just like, since I don't exactly have the same sleep schedule as the rest of my time zone, Apple just decided: "well, **** you then, no AOD for you in the phone you just paid 1489€!"
