you guys are some sad addicts

relic?

the phone is 3 years old , big freaking deal

I have socks older than that

there is no point in nostalgia if the phone is still being used by people at present time

now a newton apple pad would be a different story

Haters Gonna Hate :cool::apple:

on a side note, an awesome relic is the apple desktop printer if anyone has one..

I have a 16GB 2G also like new still in the box w/all the original trimmings. I take it out every few months to check the battery and "remember when"

It helps when I get mad at my iP4 :)

In 10 years it might be worth something, for now it just nice to remember the beginning.

.

They are still worth some pretty decent money and the ones ive seen are in terrible shape compared to mine and i have the box, dock, cable, earbuds & manual. Not to mention mine is JB and unlocked.

If you hold onto the phone for 30 more years, you might be able to auction it for as much as $200,000.

Just bought 1st Gen iPhone 8GB 2 months ago SEALED. Production 2007 week 40. I am saving it for awhile to see what it's worth. The 1st Gen iPod classic sealed are going for $1000+ on eBay. Even if it doesn't increase in value like the original iPod, it will be cool to have in 10 years.

Really? Damn....my iPod isnt sealed but i have the box still and everything that came with it. Id sell that in a heart beat if i can get close to $1,000. Hell even $500 is damn good.

Oh wait...CLASSIC or first gen iPod touch? Who the hell would want a first gen classic?

Wow it's in mint condition! How did you manage to keep it like that?

The bezel has some minor scratches on it but otherwise, its in awesome shape. I did have the back cover replaced once because the silence switch broke and you have to replace the whole cover to fix that switch on the 2G and i always kept it in a case. I have about 5 different ones. The original cover was in good shape too but not flawless. Usually when i did drop it, it was fortunately in my leather Speck case and didnt get any marks.

Not real long after i got the cover replaced, i got another phone.

there are thousands of people with this mentality

"hey i should buy an extra one, im sure it will be valuable"

the problem is

a) there was never any supply limits on the original iPhone
b) therefore its not rare
c) DUH ! of course if you keep it for long enough it will be worth something.

Properly invested you could easily make more investing the cost of an iPhone ( $500) over the next 30 years

how old are you guys, don't you remember the same thing happened with comic books

people collected them thinking they would be as valuable as the original comic books, but we all saw how that went.

same thing for novels, the only ones really valuable are the first production, first editions, everything else is drastically less valuable.

anyways prove me wrong in the next 10 years

If you only knew how serious some iPod/apple collectors were. This iPod sold for over $700 and it wasn't even the "TRUE 1st gen iPod classic." It was the next year when they made a 5GB and 10GB. If you have an iPod classic and it doesn't even say the "5 GB." Then you have a "TRUE 1st Gen iPod classic." Since their wasn't any other iPod beside the 5GB there was no need to put the capacity on the back.

And the reason the original iPhone WILL be worth a lot IMO, it was the first phone apple made just like the first iPod made in 2001. And that is selling for a mighty high price. What is your logic for that? I am not trying to be rude but I have researched for a few years and in my situation, a SEALED 1st gen iPhone...it will worth a pretty penny to an "apple collector."

first iPhone the 2g

Not even a slight moment from the day i got my iPhone have i wished for something else. my 2g is beat up but it still works well. The one thing thats a problem is the speaker at my ear is kinda weak now. I thought it was my friends blackberry but i noticed it was like that a lot of the time.
I just ordered a bluetooth headset for talking so that shouldn't be an issue much any more. I have been using my earphones to talk on the phone but to untangle them all the time or try to fiddle with them while driving was a pain. I am finally going to take a logical step to resolve the problem. I never thought i'd get one but now that i see the value in having one and how it will take away many of the hassles i am looking forward to having one.
I have been tempted by the iphone 4 but as sweet as it looks i am just not ready for an upgrade yet theres another level i want to see it taken to before i jump from the 2g. I suspect i will go with the next iPhone release which will no doubt be in June as it has since the first model had been released. Hopefully they do the crazy liquid metal thats stronger than titanium and put a clear super coating on it so no bumper will be needed to keep the antenna strength up. Also the glass thing, I'd like to see them create a bezel or curve the sides in really dramatic like the 2g-3gs where glass isn't going to take a hit directly if it hits the ground from the side. I don't want to be farting around with having a stupid case. I bought a few of them and in the end have just kept the thing naked and enjoyed the thinness and the lightness of my 2g. I havent held a 4g in my hand for very long when checking them out but it seems like rounded edges would be nice to keep as a design because it feels real comfortable when it is cupped in my hand.
Hopefully there will be more processing power wireless n and some design enhancements. Heck i'd like the see an iphone the size of the visible screen and change out how the top plates home button works and the position of where the ear speaker is as well as facetime lens. Theres no need for such a large home button.

I still have my original iPhone 8 GB (Really my dads, then mine). Good story, but rude seller. I'll probably hold onto the Phone for a few years and sell it for one of those "Apple Collectors". Hope you get some charm out of the classic ;)

Can't believe the OP called the seller. Especially a woman. Faux pas. Nice deal on the phone.

I agree. Really shouldn't have done so- even if it was during the afternoon.
If I had to do it again I wouldn't. Everything I wanted to communicate could have been done with an email. Lesson learned.

There are folks out there who collect technology for the sake of owning it and to retain what once (in the case of the iPhone 1st generation) was mass produced -- price notwithstanding.

I'm an owner of plenty [older] gadgets (all generations of the Newton included)/minicomputers/mainframes [parts of, at least] that would fetch a hefty price tag to the right audience. And this audience does exist -- computer/telecommunication history museums abound. Active digest lists are ongoing (ClassicCMP is one of the longest tenured ATM.)

So would I consider selling any of my collection to said crowd? No. The history of technology is a very poignant area of interest in the scheme of "where we've been."

The OP of this thread had no mention of resale value in obtaining it; it was out of sheer nostalgia.

Yeah - I know, at least by your user name that it's just an F'n phone. But something screams "cool" (to me) in that first consumer oriented cell phone from the early 70s (a variation seen in the '86 movie "Wall Street" and [I think] the recent sequel.) Cool to some, and as a piece to throw into the scrapper others.

Heck, everyone has their hobbies. One man's trash is another ... etc.

I still love how the back of the 2G looks. The build quality on that thing was incredible!

For some reason I do too, it feels great in the hand when holding it. I would love to see the next iPhone take on the new MBP style of casing.

I'm not a real big fan of the current iP4 glass. It's covered by a case so it's no big deal but if it were like the Laptop line I have a feeling case companies would suffer.

reading this thread makes me wish I had kept my first gen iphone, when I sold it, the buyer was amazed that it was in such great condition and included everything that it came with....

1st generation iPhone 8gig... for sale...

I do not want to break any posting rules, but I have a iPhone I would be happy to sell. It is great condition and was never jailbroken or unlocked from AT&T. There are no scratches on the screen, but a few on the back if you look real close. Nothing noticable or serious for sure. If any one is interested shoot me a private offer.

My roommate has a 2G that I have considered putting Android on. He'd probably have a heart attack, if I did that, though. LOL

I have my original iphone (bought in fall 2007) and I use it everyday as a second phone for a side business. I have had an InvisibleShield on it & aside from a little dirt, it looks I just took it out of the box.

Pics taken with my IP4.

Still using my original iPhone 2G 16GB. The screen is in perfect condition - no marks, scratches, nothing. The top corner has a gouge from a particularly nasty fall, but other than that it's in excellent condition. I'm as happy with it now as the day I bought it. Still does everything I need to and very well - haven't found a reason to upgrade yet.
