I am hung over now and i can make out what seems to be white specs in all that blurryness
Consider: if you are happy with your mba and you return it for another one, the next one might have something more serious going on. I personally would definitly not return a macbook because of this. But if you do, do it in the 14day window. Apple is not going to take this back later as a defect.

Yeah I know. I'm looking at it this morning with a little less concern. Meh, got 10 days to see if it really bugs me but I do agree on the front that swapping out this minor cosmetic blemish may get me one with a worse display etc and I'm very happy with my screen and the backlighting balance.

Food for thought.

Enjoy the hangover!

Nope, your not being anal.

You just got a new machine, and noticed imperfections in the paint.

That's just disappointed knowing its brand new.

You have 14 days, give it a week, and see how u feel about it . If it's still bothering you, return it.

Imho, I wouldn't really be bothered by a small cosmetic problem. But maybe that's just me. I take extra care of my Apple products and they still look like new with proper care. But with most people, these little "battle scars" happen sometime down the line anyway.

But since it's a Macbook Air, I'd probably use this excuse to check for other reasons to return. Mainly, the screen and SSD lottery. I would check my SSD and if it's from Samsung, it's one less reason to return it. If it is from SanDisk or Toshiba, I will return it (see Front Page news about the slower new models, those are mainly due to the brand of the SSD). Next, I'll check the consistency of my panel. Make sure there's no light bleeding and if the color profile and color gamut is uniform. There are threads here discussing about this. Some swear that their LG screens are better than Samsung, etc. Best case scenario, your SSD is a Samsung and your screen is a good LG without screen bleeding and uniform brightness.

Basic rule, always never be afraid to return an Apple product if you paid full price (non refurbished). Apple machines are expensive in comparison to a Windoze machine and Apple takes great pride in their servicing and costumer satisfaction. G'Luck.

If this is going to eat at you, then return it. Personally, I'd be bummed out, then move on :) It could be worse.

I went and swapped it lol. There were a few other marks and scratches I hadn't noticed when I took this pic - I took it and showed the guy and he said that he wouldn't hesitate in swapping it over.

Just got my replacement home and restored my backup - casing is flawless and screen is still as good as my last one.

Now I can just enjoy it :)

This. Solid advice.

How do I go about checking the SSD manufacturer? I'm happy with both displays I've had so far so that doesn't worry me.

About This Mac -> More Info -> System Report

Actually I was going to say then click on SATA... but the SSD on 2013 is PCI-e, so I don't know from there..... :)

I did the terminal command for displays and I have an LS, which I can only assume is a Samsung as LG displays show as LP if I am not mistaken?

Macintosh HD:

Available: 142.56 GB (142,555,017,216 bytes)
Capacity: 250.14 GB (250,140,434,432 bytes)
Mount Point: /
File System: Journaled HFS+
Writable: Yes
Ignore Ownership: No
BSD Name: disk0s2
Volume UUID: 3D0BFE66-E903-3CAC-ADC7-B7BC89ED4F5D
Physical Drive:
Media Name: APPLE SSD SD0256F Media
Medium Type: SSD

Internal: Yes
Partition Map Type: GPT (GUID Partition Table)
S.M.A.R.T. Status: Verified

That's my system info under 'Storage' - no obvious identifier for manufacturer?

If the system is indeed new, swap it as you paid a premium for an outstanding laptop. Or, buy a skin or case for it - out of sight & out of mind.

I'm very picky though and don't know if I can cope with knowing it's there

If you are picky enough to post about it, return it, you are not satisfied so why keep it, go and either trade it or get your money back if it it still under warranty (just bought it days ago?)...

Btw LG or Samsung screens are just a matter of preference.
You can color calibrate both. Most people actually prefere the LG.

The SanDisk has slightly slower speed results, but some people claim that its faster in real life use.
The sandisk maintains speed even when it fills up. The samsung will slow down when it has less than 20gb left.

This is all just nitpicking.
