Apart from the difference in color, how does it feel, is the metal finish same on both the phones? If so, then it's just a color dye. Are you planning on using a case because then it would be a no issue.

I'd sell it one eBay, box and all, as a SUPER DUPER RARE IPHONE 5S PRODUCTION ERROR and see how much you get. You could come out on the plus side.

I couldn't agree more! :D out of interest OP have you checked the manufactured date? i just wonder because I've just sent my phone in for repair and they are sending me a new phone, they emailed me the new serial number and i checked and it was manufactured in the 3rd week of January and my old one was from November. I should receive it tomorrow so I'll come back here and compare it to your pics. Maybe they have changed something and new models have a different tint perhaps? just a theory

So I just got a brand new space gray iPhone 5S today for a second line. I noticed that the finish of the aluminum on the rear shell didn't match the first space gray 5S I had, it was much more blue and noticeably darker. Worst of all the finish on the sim card tray, volume buttons, lock button, and vibrate toggle were all mismatched, being way lighter like the finish on my first 5S. I showed it to my girlfriend and she said there was something wrong with it too.

I'm feeling pretty disappointed because I got the phone straight from my carrier and can't exchange it.

Am I just being too picky, or does the phone on the left look very defective to anyone else?

The SIM tray looks most out of place to me. Does the serial number, and IMEI number, printed in the SIM tray, match that of the phone?

EDIT: I don't think you are out of line asking for an exchange. Something is definitely different or out of whack with the colors.

It wouldn't bug me personally but if it bugs you I don't think it's unreasonable to get an exchange. It definitely looks very different.

Apple I'm sure made thousands of sim trays and buttons all at once and has a stockpile. The manufacturer was too cheap or lazy to clean the chemical tanks on a regular basis so you get wildly varying results after the first production run.

I wouldn't be too worried about the tint of the metal, especially because I often put my phones in a case/bumper. Unless it affects the function of the device, or has visible damage, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. But, that's just me.. and I'm happy just to have such an amazing device.

Agreed. I always use a case, so I really wouldn't notice. As long as the screen is ok, I'd keep it.

I agree with some of the other posters here - I really like the phone on the left - looks sleek. I'd definitely keep it!

I'm guessing the iPhone 5/5S back, the band around and buttons are produced in one location/line up and somewhere your iPhone 5S ended up with parts from the 5....? I don't know what other logical sense to make out of it but yours looks like a mix of iPhone 5 Slate + iPhone 5S Space Gray
