Get mad at Apple/Foxconn for low quality on the initial batches of phones.

Yes, Foxconn just admitted to using 14 and 15 year old kids to work on the factory lines. No wonder quality was going down hill.

So no you are not unreasonable to expect adults to make your product and to get it right, not having kids removed from school to work on the factory lines and then getting tons of mistakes.

Foxconn has admitted that it employed underage interns in breach of China's child labor laws. An internal investigation at its Yantai factory found some of the young trainees were aged 14- and 15-years old

Those poor children. I can't imagine what it must be like to be lower-class in China of all places. And sending your children to work in grueling factors so we can get our smartphones and iPads.

Why are we jerks for buying electronics?

I'm sorry I thought my message would convey as intended! I meant in the grand scheme of it all. Not jerks as in rude but as fortunate individuals not forced to work in terrible conditions.

Sorry mate for the misunderstanding.

Yeah, how are the shoes you are wearing, underwear, pants, socks, shirts, all made in third world countries.

The naked truth

I sympathize. U do paid a lot of money for your phone.

Now the reality.

Apple can't get their phones out fast enough, it's all back ordered blah-blah. MEANING, right now, they don't have the inclination, the time, the manpower to make fine quality inspections, to slow the production line blah-blah.

The reality, sans whatever principle, religion u subscribe to is... if u are not willing to put up with these imperfections, let the "breeders" have their phones first, wait another six months when things has calmed down.

They got burned by too many anal retentive people who keep replacing the replacements.

Thank you thank you thank you for not incorrectly identifying the behavior as OCD.

Most definitely and this makes me so mad because those people ruined it for people who really do have a bad phone.

And makes Apple deploying phones more expensive which gets rolled into the price of each phone.

have you considered contacting the better business bureau and filing a report with them if you don't get what you paid for at your second appt. today?

No I haven't.

Honestly I've usually been fortunate to get nothing but nice, kind hipster "geniuses" whenever there's been an issue hardware or software.

I'm not sure how effective reporting establishments to the BBB is. Hopefully I won't need to find out.

She takes the phone and goes "This phones are inspected and are within Apple's tolerances. I will not be replacing this phone again."

The apple genius I spoke to was super friendly when I swapped out my phone due to dead pixels but he gave me the same line when I pointed out the replacement had deep dings and scratches around the edges and corners. I just said thanks and walked up to lead genius at the store and he swapped it out again. Unfortunately, same problem with the next replacement. I didn't want to keep swapping so I just took the phone as is and will be returning for a refund this week.

I am sorry. U guys must be teenagers. BBB? seriously? That's like complaining to the FCC the cable company is showing you too many negative ads by boring politicians.

I don't think you're overreacting. I had gouges and scuffs on my first phone that I bought at the Apple store. Like an a$$ I walked out with it since the manager was too busy and the genius said there was nothing he could do because, "Most of the phones are like that."

Anyway, I called Applecare and they set up an appointment for me to get a replacement. When I went back the genius was not very nice, but let me inspect the phone (after he did) and it seemed good. I made sure that if I went home and found anything wacky that they'd replace it. He said yes... there was probably a note in my file saying "Warning, biggest OCD b*tch ever" but whatever.

I seriously cannot stand the geniuses. I get the feeling that working with Applecare is better and they can override poor CS decisions made in the stores.

God I hope this isn't my fate today. But like I said I am willing to return this phone and just buy a 4S for myself until next years model.

BUT as I now realize they may have screwed me. I can't return this replacement to AT&T without raising hell. Which I really don't want to do.

Number 1, I don't think your being ridiculous.
Number 2 if you are within your 1 st 30 days (if you purchased the iPhone from AT&T) you should be taking the phone to AT&T, anyone including AT&T tells you different they are wrong. Getting a shrink wrapped in box new iPhone.
Number 3. Now that you have had it replaced at Apple with a Genius Bar replacement. Your imei and serial number no longer match the box or receipt from AT&T. Now you are no longer able to return the iPhone for a refund without what will probably be a huge hassek at AT&T.

AT&T is 14 days buyer remorse, not 30. Apple is 30 if bought from them.

well, the only reason I mentioned it was because I had read that some people were getting screwed in returning/exchanging devices to/at Verizon. It *is* a shoddy return system.

They take money from your account (in my case $425) then send you a new phone and a pre-paid return label. You box up your old phone and accessories and send it back using their label. They are supposed to then refund your money.

Well, for one, there's no way to track the shipment. They use "smartpost" which is a joke. You can take it to FedEx or USPS for drop off. FedEx, simply takes it over to USPS (building in another couple of days) so might as well just start at USPS. Then, no tracking info is recorded until it's delivered... Even though the label says "track on fedex.com or 1800 bla bla bla"... so you really don't know if your $425 device is ever going to make it back... hate the suspense. Finally, a week later... Delivery confirmation... YES!

Next thing I know what's being refunded? Oh that's right $370. Where's my other $55?

So many stories online of peoples phones not showing up at the return facility. Others got delivery confirmations that they were delivererd to the return processing place but never received their refund (this is where the BBB claims came in). In my case, I got delivery confirmation and received my refund less $55. Why? Well, that's the question of the week. Nobody could tell me. They ended up just crediting me the $55 for my next bill but what a pitiful system to have to deal with. I'm never jeapordizing that kind of $$ again.

...the people who contacted the BBB all got calls a couple of days later from a "senior verizon person" who apologized and credited/refunded their money.

I'm tellin you... If you catch flack today... call the BBB and file a claim. It can't HURT...

And unless this has recently changed.
Any iPhone purchased at AT&T is also 30 days

It was my understanding it was 30. If they changed it it would have had to be recently.

My "Hail Mary" play would be using what's printed on the receipt against AT&T if they refuse my return (if I even have to return it).

It (paraphrasing) states that all replacements and repairs within the first 30 days should be done through Apple. How was I, the customer, to know they wouldn't touch any phone replaced by Apple regardless of days after?

My sister in law got a lemon i think. Terrible battery life no matter how i set it up for her. And then the back has these weird blotches on the aluminum. I told her to go swap it.

They didn't have any replacements, so the guy offered to swap it for a 32GB white one instead of a black.

I asked her, Do you want a white phone? Shes says, if i wanted a white one i would have bought that on day one.

So i told her just return it, and wait it out. Too much drama right now.

I think this is what you should do as well OP.

They did change it recently - about a week or so ago.
If you bought the phone prior to the change you still have 30 days to return it. When I saw a genius last Monday Oct 8th he said AT&T had just changed the policy to 14 days the day before.

I'm tempted to just go with a 4S and use the upgrade on my mothers line next year depending on what's offered.

Appointment is in 20 minutes. Wish me luck all.

Intersting comment by the CS rep. So the replacement phone was inspected and within tolerance? I would assume the original phone was inspected prior to boxing too so why wasn't the dust and cloth considered within tolerance and no replacement issued?

Because that's the polite way of saying, get out of our store, we're not swapping out your phone again.
