I purchased iPhone 7 32gb two months ago for my daughter - no regrets at all. Brand new from xfinity mobile for $449. I am waiting for $250 gift card, so technically I got a brand new phone for her for a little over $200 if you factor tax. It was either this, or used iPhone 6s from Craigslist for the same amount of money, so the XM deal was hard to pass.

Sold my iPhone6 earlier this year and acquired a new iPhone7 for $450. It is a bit faster, runs current iOS versions, still has TouchID which I’ve come to love, and is essentially the same form factor which fits my hands and visual acuity quite well. Downside: no headphone jack, but I understand this was a “courageous” move on Apple’s part. For my part, it kinda sucks but they didn’t ask me. I have no need for anything newer than the iPhone7, and I certainly have no need to spend beyond $500 for a smartphone for any reason. So to @markovchain, I answer “No, you’re not crazy to buy an iPhone7+ in 2019.” I think the question should be turned around to something like: “Why would I buy anything more than an iPhone7 in 2019?” But that’s me.

If it works for you, it's a great buy! I am also planning to "upgrade" to the 7 or maybe 8. I would've loved to go for the 7+, but going for a jog with it is very tough.

I’m also planning to buy an older generation iPhone. I’m going to wait for Apple to release their newest phone in September and see what kind of discount I could get for an iPhone 8 Plus.

I was hoping to hold out for another year but my 6s Plus lags in certain apps that I use to work and feel the extra GB of RAM would help with multitasking.

I wanted to upgrade my fugly looking iPhone SE, this thing was on its last leg type of ugly.

I bought a brand new 6S+ and a brand new iPhone 7 128GB.

^ $448 bucks all together combined. I was going to keep the 7 and return the 6S+ to Walmart. But, I just have really fallen in love with this 6S+ So I’m gonna keep them Botha!

I’d say spending your money wisely on older phones is the way to go!

You'd be crazy to pay Apple's asking price. It will definitely be worth it if you could score a (much) cheaper deal. Part of Apple's prices are expected hardware and software support - which you have to deprecate obviously for the shorter support span from here on out.

Would have been better off with the 8 Plus. But for a cheap phone for 200 $ you can't go wrong with a 6s or 7.

Yep picked up an iPhone 7 for free at Verizon to replace daughters shattered iPhone 7. I even offered XR or XS and she refused saying too big, wants touch id.

There’s no way I’d bought an iPhone 7 at Apple though for full price.

It depends, may be US has it cheaper?

But iPhone 7 Plus 128GB cost $669, you are getting $60 discount from it already, and you are trading your iPhone 6s Plus for $240, again, a decent trade in price, ( Not sure if it is average in US and Trade in price is different to selling price on eBay )

I think it is a good deal.

One reason I really want Apple to have an entry level iPhone that is based on iPhone 7 and may be an A12 Chip. I don't want glass back, and wireless charging along with the huge repair cost. But I am guessing Apple may stop selling iPhone 7 once they announce this year's iPhone.

Before my Xs Max, iPhone 7 was my favorite iPhone to date.

IMO it's what the classic iPhone should've always been. The stylish antenna bands, solid state home button, and stereo speakers.

It's a very solid device indeed.

I was thinking about + size iPhone but even 4.7 version looks like a gorilla phone in my daughter's tiny hands. She loves the 7 and I got 3-4 more weeks before getting the $250 rebate so all good :)

How did you get it for free? Did you need to open a new line?

U crazy bru /s

Use what you like and what works for you? Why does buying any phone make you crazy? God. Sometimes these threads make no sense at all.

That's exactly what I plan to do! Where I'm at the iPhone 8 Plus 64GB currently costs $950. When the iPhone 11 (or whatever it'll be called) releases later this month there's a good chance the new price of the 8 Plus will be under $800 as it'll be sold during its final year (Sep 2019 - Sep 2020). I wouldn't be surprised if it drops to $750. The 6s Plus costed $740 here from Sep 2017 - Sep 2018. Since Sep 2018 the 7 Plus has costs $790. It will remain so until it discontinues.

If it turns out to be the case (8 Plus being <$800) then I'll upgrade from my 6s to the 8 Plus. The 5.5 inch screen size is the largest I'll go for. I have no need for a gigantic screen (>5.8 inches). I love the 16:9 aspect ratio and the rectangular screen (rectangle is my favorite shape). I also prefer bezels as they make phones easier to hold (both portrait and landscape mode but the latter more so). Yes I watch videos a lot on my phone and do some gaming as well so me holding it landscape mode is done frequently. The ease of holding might have to do with all the 'non screen' space as I'm less likely to make accidental calls or app launches. I'm also less likely to crack or chip my screen (yes it's possible to crack or chip parts of a bezel but not the screen itself). White bezels in particular also hide fingerprints and scratches giving the phone a cleaner and (in my opinion) prettier look. Face ID is awkward to me as a camera shy introvert. I much prefer Touch ID and the home button generally. As an A11 device it's not far off from the A12 ones. Far from being outdated (heck I'd still hesitate to call my 6s outdated in 2019). The 8 Plus will remain relevant, fully supported and usable for years to come.

My 6s is great but after about 2 years I'm ready for a change albeit with a very similar front and a somewhat larger form factor. Also my parents would like my 6s as their 4 year old 6 is on its last legs. Yes they share a phone. And they're also aware how much of an improvement the 6s is from a 6.

My daughters 7+ just crapped the bed with the dresser IC chip failure. Sucks because the phone doesn’t have a scratch on it. Waiting until next weeks announcement so hopefully the 8+ drops in price so I can buy her one of those. I would do another 7 but I have no faith in the iPhone 7 after searching the web about the IC failure and Apple’s unwillingness to do the right thing...

This!

You should not be paying retail price for a 7+ in 2019!

Find one in great condition, from a seller you can trust, for a couple hundred bucks. Then its worthwhile.

So…you're crazy and you admit it.

That makes me a stark-raving lunatic for continuing to use a launch weekend iPhone 6s+ in 2019. And I must be completely insane for also continuing to use an iPhone 5, a 4s and a 4 in 2019.

Let's not get into my choice of using pre-2006 Macs.

Yeah, total nutter!

There is a huge difference in still using and buying the before mentioned devices. I am pretty certain that you wont buy any of These devices in September 2019, would you.

And no, I dont think it is a good deal to spend several hundreds of dollars for an IPhone that is 3 years old.

September 2019? No, but only because I don't have any money right now.

I did buy the iPhone 4 less than a year ago though. $20 through someone on Reddit.

I just buy what I want when I can and I really don't care whether it's 'crazy' or not to do so.

Apologies for bumping this thread but I've got some updates and corrections. Turns out the price of the 8 Plus (as well as the prices of the 8, XR, and even the 7 and 7 Plus) have dropped on the day of Apple's special event (September 10th). Though officially discontinued by Apple and no longer listed on its website I stopped by my nearest Apple store last Friday and found out the 7 and 7 Plus remain on sale from the 10th to today (final day before the 11 arrives) at reduced prices.

The 8 Plus 64GB now costs $750 where I'm at ($200 off!). My prediction was eerily spot on haha. Purchased it also last Friday as it's now within my budget. Zero regrets! Love the screen, cameras, stereo speakers, true tone display, faux home button, and the newer taptic engine! I also like the design quite a bit. The glass back and dual lens camera are sexy (not trying to sound weird). The 6s is very good but the 8 Plus is phenomenal! I'm missing the headphone jack but after some research I've been made aware that accessories like the Belkin Lightning Audio + Charge Rockstars exist.

I gotta pay extra to enjoy them but they could be worth it!

Yeah just buy whatever you want and can. You don't want to go broke or disappointed just for buying a phone. Some people don't like the notch, Face ID, or larger displays so it's definitely possible to be disappointed with a newer iPhone. Nothing wrong with that!

you are somewhat crazy - depending. Spend as much as you can to get the latest tech for longevity purposes. If you found a deal on a 7 and because of budgetary constraints can't spend a penny more to get newer, get the 7 and don't worry about it.

I don’t believe you’re crazy. I have several family members using the iPhone 7 and they plan to use it for several more years. It’s a good, dependable phone. I might pick up a refurbished iPhone 8 Plus soon and use it for two more years. It just depends on your needs. I don’t need the latest tech, and for better or worse, I still like Touch ID.
