Tis is why I just bit the bullet and bought one, wait till the end of feb and nothing then rumours start of April, another 2 months etc etc etc.

I bought a refurb for 440$ on apple.com. I will sell a little before the announcement probably. This way, I get to use it for the next 2 or so months, and take a minor hit. If I don't like the specs Im hearing, I will keep the 2.

Id like to see:
Retina Screen, and maybe stereo sound for games. Other than that, I DONT CARE. Of course itll have the new cpu, maybe more RAM, probably sirii, etc.

If you want one, I recommend the refurb route, you save 100$, and mine was not discernible from a new unit, and has had WONDERFUL battery life.

I think I may have a solution worked out. If I buy an open box Ipad 2 (or a new one), and keep it until the end of school (beginning of May), my mom said she would be ready to buy mine by then, as she's wanted an Ipad but doesn't want to pay full price.

In that case should I buy new or open item/or/refurbished? (16gb open item is $425, new is $499, 32gb open is $525)

If I purchase one through BB, does apple still give a year warranty if anything were to go wrong?

You can always buy another tablet to hold you over. That's what I'm doing - I ended up with a blackberry playbook for now.

I don't know what you mean with 'open box'. I do believe Apple gives one year warranty in the US, even if you buy your device somewhere else.

I'd buy a refurbished, or more rebuild, iPad 2 through Apple's website:

http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC769LL/A - iPad 2 16 GB for $419, 32 GB for $499 and 64 GB for $599.

I mean, these are very respectable prices if you consider that the prices for a brand new box are $499, $599, $699 respectively.

You are indicating you want to upgrade to the iPad 3 and your mom will buy your iPad 2 (which she wanted for a while). It's likely Apple will drop the iPad 2's price as soon as the iPad 3 is announced to $399. So don't forget that. If you manage to sell your iPad 2 16 GB for $379 or something like that to your mom, than the upgrade price to an iPad 3 is $120 (so in total $499). There won't be any refurbished iPad 3s at launch.

Refurbished iPads are of the same quality as brand-new iPads. The difference is in the internal components: these have been used before, so you are really recycling. There are some changes though: a brand new battery (so optimal battery life), new outercasing and all components passed a quality test.

Best Buy sells open box items, which are essentially items that have been returned within 14 days, and have passed testing. Since I work in customer service, I know that a lot of these have never been used, just opened, so I would know which one to get. Basically right now with discount they are $425.

Well, I have no experience with Best Buy so in my opinion it's better to buy a refurbished iPad from Apple for $419. Than you know for sure you have got one year of warranty and these iPads also have gone through a quality test.

Another advantage: refurbished iPads have new casing and a new battery (just in case they have been used). Refurbished iPads are also iPads which were returned for whatever reason. I think that now, just after Christmas, you are much more likely to actually get a refurbished iPad that has never been used before.

To me it appears Apple selling refurbished iPads and Best Buy selling 'open box' iPads, is based on the same idea.

So, I'd go with Apple: slightly cheaper, you know for certain that your warranty is 100% and the replacement of the outershell and battery just seems a + to me.

Just get the 2 now if you can, and when the 3 comes out, sell your iPad 2 if the new model has the specs you require.

I ended up getting an open box 16gb, the cords hadnt even been unwrapped. Total out the door was $579 which included a smart cover, belkin case, zagg shield, and 1 year ADH on the Ipad. Not too bad I must say

I already ripped off the anti glare shield, I couldn't stand how it made the screen look like ****. Should I get a normal screen protector, or leave it naked, how easily does the screen scratch on these?

As far as the Black Tie ADH goes (Replace the Ipad if anything goes wrong with it as far as dropping it and breaking the screen, or anything internal), do you guys think I should keep it, $50 for one year?

Last, I'm already thinking of ripping off the belkin snap case, and keeping the smart cover, then getting an incase sleeve. Sound like a good idea?

$50 to cover it for breakages for a year seems like a no brainier to me.
I had a griffin leather case that lasted a couple of days before I bought a smart cover and now use only that, looks much better and nicer to hold

I wanted an iPad for Christmas and my wife bought one but then I read about the rumors of the 3 and I told her I'd rather wait. If the only thing they do is upgrade the screen, I'd rather wait especially after comparing my iPhone 3 display to the new 4's. Your mom may want to reconsider taking your 2 so you can up to the 3 as well. At my age (and perhaps her age), a sharper screen is very helpful on the eyes. I would not get a 2 with the thought of selling either. The loss of value is simply a loss. You might as well tack the loss onto the cost for a new iPad3. And ditto to the people complaining about the screen protectors.... I tried my niece's iPad2 with a screen protector this past weekend and the protector made it look terrible.

There are some small scratches on my first generation iPad, so when I get the iPad 3 I will certainly get a screen protector (standard ones, not anti-glare or any other fancy stuff - I want my screen protector to be as invisible as possible). I ignore the scratches (you must actually look for them to see them), but than again... it's nicer to have a completely smooth screen.

I'd keep that Black Tie ADH. It's just $50 for one year... that's just $0.14 a day.

I don't really know about the cases. Cases are not my thing. I've got the original Apple one, but I only put it on if I go somewhere (like on holiday) or put it in a bag. I would only put a case around the iPad if you are leaving the home with it. It just adds extra weight and you are covered against damage (with that Black Tie ADH).

The Smart Cover... well, I don't know. I suppose it's nice to use, but only to put it upright or something, or tilt the screen a little when you are in landscape mode. I wouldn't use it as a protector and put in your back like that.

I did

I bought myself an iPad 2 on jan 2nd. I didn't want to wait until maybe even mid summer, as some rumors have said. I think that the iPad 2 does everything I need. The only things that could be a little better, is the fact that I'm spoiled with my iPod touch retina screen, so the iPad can a bit hard getting used to, and the cameras are a joke, however I don't use them other then to FaceTime with my grAndparents only on holidays. I replaced my computer with my iPad, due to my computer breaking, and the iPad has been more useable then my computer! I just would recommend getting and AirPrint capable printer so that you can print from your iPad. Hope I helped!

Get a blackberry playbook i sold my ipad 2 and got blackberry playbook, couldnt be happier its a bit smaller but didnt really bother me also has great multitasking.

You can always buy another tablet to hold you over. That's what I'm doing - I ended up with a blackberry playbook for now.

I just traded my BB playbook 16gb for a iPad 2 16gb.

Things I find better on the Playbook are ....

Handsdown the Playbook's browser is the absolute best vs any other mobile browser.

The screen is much better the iPad 2 screen.

Multitask is top notch with options included.

I already miss the Border gestures.

HDMI out means everything and anything you want.

Reasons I traded were ......

iCloud .... I already have an iPhone 4 and a MBP

Resale value

And Apps like TWCable TV, HBO GO and a couple other apps that you'll probably never see on the Playbook even with Android apps.

I was in the same spot but went ahead and made the leap to the iPad 2. I'm just not very patient, but so far I love this thing and wouldn't go back for anything.

Your iPad 2 will still get GOOD money if you sell it to get the 3 when it lands.
