I wish that some expert would give us the final correct answer to this issue. I use SL and want to buy a 4S. Do I or don't I have to upgrade to LION to make everything work with iCloud. Will there be a immediate upgrade for SL to make my current OS work with iCloud? Please help, time is getting close.

It's the the price that matters for me. It's the fact that it's LION. Plain and simply, I like Snow Leopard. I like how things are set up as is and I don't want or need anything to change. Grrr. Why is Apple forcing us to upgrade?

Of course you can.. do you not know how?

Nope, did not know that at all as I've never owned any apple computer. I do love the macbook designs, although don't want to leave windows. Will definitely look into this, thanks for bringing it up :D

You can't go from Leopard right to Lion, can you? I don't want to buy Snow Leopard too to get to Lion.

Haha, no problem. Lookup bootcamp if you want to know more.

The fear of fixing something that isn't broken gets me. SL works perfectly for me and to switch to Lion makes me nervous. I use this computer for my work and if things get screwed up I am in big trouble. Also do I have to pay the upgrade fee for both my desktop and laptop? This will require too much time out of my day to fool with and I don't need the hassle of upgrading to something that works fine for me.

$29 will let you upgrade both computers no problem no extra charge.

Apple products keep their value just sell them when you update.
I have no interest in resale value, that doesn't matter. I don't sell mine each year when I upgrade my Macs. I get much more satisfaction in giving them to family members or schools.

I simply have a strong preference for OS X and hope to enjoy it for a little while longer before it becomes too much like iOS.

Well then just be happy with what you have, you don't need to get the latest and greatest. My best friend still runs his g4 Mac mini with Tiger and he is a pro video editor!!!

Woah, I hope it will work on Snow Leopard. I had no intention of upgrading to Lion, and I already ordered the 4S.

Sooo, I'm on Leopard. If I buy that little thumb drive (which I realize is more money) then I don't have to buy Snow Leopard too, right?

I guess, it'd be cheaper to just buy both online, huh? I was googling around and people were saying that upgrading online has bugs. Would I be better off upgrading online or with the thumb drive. Disclaimer: I know next to nothing. I just came on this forum to track my iPhone. =]

Tell me that you do time machine backups...

Often I see it again and again...they need the files for work but didn't backup

Hopefully there will be an update for Snow Leopard to work with iCloud. Unfortunately I can't run Lion because of other hardware/software needs, not because of the upgrade cost.

The issue is syncing of contacts, calendars across multiple devices. I'm sure that it won't be a problem to access MobileMe email from iOS5.

It's only $30 people! Lion is the bomb...:p

Yeah, but I'll be 'bummed' if my important 3rd party plug-ins and professional apps aren't compatible. That's a problem for media pros.

Has anyone set up iCloud on SL? I tried to set it up this morning and it wouldn't let me due to not having Lion installed.

I refuse to risk my professional workflow for the sake of iCloud. There's no way I'm upgrading to Lion, and it's a shame that it's a requirement. Professionals were not taken into consideration at all.

:(

For now I'm just accessing my mail via iCloud.com even on my computers.
