I have an iPad original, and I love it. It works for me just dandy.

I still rock my original 64GB wifi model and find myself using it almost daily. Winding down surfing these forums, answering emails etc. Kicked back in my recliner.

I love this thing!

Your workflow suits that of the iphone and macbook.

The iPad can do all of that and more if one were a little more resourceful, but as you say you're just not feeling it.

Nothing wrong with that. I'm sure you'll make someone a happy owner, or re-owner.

I love my iPad but I use it as an entertainment device only. If I want to do some serious work, I prefer my Mac Pro or my Macbook Air. I use my iPad for Internet surfing, emails, calendar, games and video viewing. I have to say that I am not that excited about it as at the beginning, but I think it is because the iPad has become a part of my life and I don't think I would like to lose it.

My experience is the other way around. I have noticed that I have been using my Macbook Pro less and less since getting the iPad 2, I use it all the time and since getting it my Macbook Pro must have only been used a handful of times. The only reason I use it is for University work to run programs which can't be done on an iPad such as Forensic Tool Kit & Sleuth Kit for my Forensic Computing course. If I wasn't at University then I don't think the Macbook Pro would get used at all the be honest.

Well it has definitely lost a bit of "magic" for me. I'm still using it a lot (especially during work :D) but it I'd starting to feel redundant to me.
When I first got it I was thinking about using it for school, but now I realize that I have so many gadgets that it is unnecessary. For the record here is a list of what I have that are totally capable for school:
MacBook Pro 15
Dell Studio XPS 13
Google CR-48
iPad 2

Part of me wants to sell the iPad for cash, but the other part tells me it's a great device and I should keep it. Can't decide :/

Yep, it's losing some of its desirability for me too.

I do tend to use it more than my Macbook, for anything casual, but I get the feeling that I could sell the iPad 2 and use the Macbook more again.

Like others have said here, I seem to be using it because it's there, and that justifies the purchase. I typically spend much of my time on it, surfing the same 10 or so websites, or playing the same 2/3 games.

The iPad 2 is definitely more conveniant to use than my macbook, in that it starts up quicker, has a much better battery life and has a smaller footprint, but I could live without those benefits, especially given that I also have an iPhone.

With the power of hind-sight, would I have bought an iPad 2 ? Probably not.

I have successfully replaced my laptop with my iPad 2, as all I ever did with it was internet and e mail anyway. I don't even have a laptop anymore. I carry a backpack pretty much all the time, and my iPad is ALWAYS in it. It's light, easy to use on the train, and suits my needs perfectly.

I have found more and more that I have completely different apps on my iPad than I do on my iPhone. I'd rather surf or search for things on the web on my iPad. Same goes for eBooks, magazines, writing up documents, FaceTime/Skype, e mail, photo projects, Netflix/Hulu Plus, games, etc. At the end of the day, my son always insists on reading books on the iPad before bed. (BTW, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is an AMAZING kids book.)

However, since getting an iPad 2, I also feel that it has redefined and in some ways rekindled my love for my iPhone 4 as well. An iPhone 4 is a computer in your pocket, and it's all I need when I want to travel light. I prefer NOT to read books on it anymore, but I will if I'm bored enough. Some gaming lends itself better to the iPhone than the iPad. I prefer Safari on the iPad, but in a pinch, it's great to be able to pull out my iPhone and do a quick Google search. And the obvious use--listening to music--I don't think I've done this once on my iPad, even though I do have music on it. I think 11 of my 16 GB is music.

But in an ideal situation, I have BOTH devices with me.

Love mine

I only use mine at home as it is wifi only so I always get good usage out of my iPhone 4

It blows my mind every time someone says the iPad isn't portable.

Anyway, it's either you have a use for it or you don't. When I got mine I knew full well it'd be my full-time digital reader. I use it like a permanent internet magazine, book reader, and email checker. I use it every morning in lieu of a newspaper. I use it around the house to consume media in lieu of a laptop. It has a perfect full-time niche in my life.

There's no magic where there's no use for it in your own life.

i am F*(^& pissed i spent 500+ for this. I have come to my senses as well. I can't believe how smiten i was with this B*&^

I've been playing with my new MacBook Air for the last couple of days, and I gotta tell you I didn't know how much I missed a real computer until I started using one more often. My iPad screen looks fuzzier now.

Its harder to browse the web while lying in bed with the Air (harder, not impossible) and I don't have a MiFi so connectivity is an issue. But I gotta tell you my iPad will be getting used a lot less.

But I aint getting rid of it. Still love it! Its now my mistress not my main squeeze its all...

I haven't "lost it", but I did get mine for a certain specific purpose. We needed a 2nd computer in the house. The 1st one does all of the heavy lifting, and now the iPad is strictly used for web browsing, games, e-mail, etc., basically all of the light stuff. As far as I am concerned, it is just what we were looking for, and we may pass on the iPhone when it comes out in favor of either a 2nd one (or an iPod touch if it gets 3g, GPS, and maybe a bit larger).

Just the opposite: the magic keeps increasing for me. I was initially skeptical about the iPad, and held off buying one, but people I trusted told me I wouldn't understand how great they are until I used one. When the iPad 2 came out, I bought a discounted iPad 1. I use it every day -- mostly for web surfing, email, and reading, but also for the many cool apps I've found -- and use my MBP less and less.

Exactly the same for me!

When the iPad came out, I think Steve did a poor job marketing it (to me), because I just couldn't see a use for it in my workflow. I waited and watched the apps, trying to figure out a way to make use of it. I finally bought the discounted one last March and at first it was just a good ereader. It took a lot of trial and error (along with helpful advice on this forum) to get up to speed. Now I use it for most of my consumption (web browsing, PDF reading, etc.) and a lot of my creation (limited to drafts, because Pages is still unable to bring any of my projects to the final stage). The MBP is great and does the heavy lifting at home, but I would guess 90% of my time is spent with the iPad. I am on a research trip now without my computer. This is something I never would have dreamed I could do just a few months ago.

There is room in my life for both my iPad and my iPhone. My iphone is my truly portable, with-me-all-the-time-and-every-waking-moment device. The iPad travels with me instead of my MacBook Pro, most of the time. I use it for almost everything I can do on my computer.

I also use the iPad for movies quite a lot. And recently, on a trip to Seattle, I caught up on an entire season of True Blood with my iPad. (The local tv in the hotel room sucked, so thank goodness I had the iPad with me).

And my MacBook Pro is my workhorse computer, my sturdy beast that handles my personal computing needs as well as the needs of my non-profit organization, and I can take it with me if needed.

So, I feel that I get great usage out of all of them. Happy customer here.

There was a period of time when I had the iPad 1 where the magic was dwindling. I bought my first smartphone (Android) and wasn't really seeing the point in the iPad. That went away though :)

It follows me from work to school to home. My main use is that it's a one stop shop of reading goodness and joy: books, magazines, comics, reference material, web articles (Instapaper), & class notes. It's loaded with all of that.

Magic

All depends on your needs. There are some killer apps that make the iPad near magical, if you have that very specific need. NoteProHD, Quickshot to Dropbox, and Index Card sync to Scrivener have made my MBA all but obsolete.

But the other issue is web and news sites. I read 20 or so news sources everyday. I was totally fed up going to their actual websites and suffering through 600 pieces of dancing baloney. So I tried RSS feeds and they are fine except some sites bombard you with 50 per day, and others trickle them out, so it's just not practical for me. But news 'apps' and news websites dedicated to 'mobile' browsers are FAR more efficient at delivering the actual information. And for that, the iPad (or any tablet I suppose) is simply indispensable as a tool. The games, I could care less about..... :)

D.

My wife only wishes I would lose the magic. I carry my iPad 2 with me everywhere I go... and I've been doing that since the iPad 1. My wife would be very happy... or think there is something very wrong with me if I lost the magic.:p

LOL! My wife feels the same way too. I carry it to work even tho I rarely have time to take it out of the bag.

Every evening after dinner I would sit in my super comfortable leather theater recliner in front of the 65 inch plasma with my Ipad in my lap surfing away. The Ipad would follow me to the bar for a snack. And then to the bathroom for a c_ _p. And, then to the bedroom to bed where I continued to surf away, etc., etc.

I sold my Ipad about a week ago and I have come to my senses and rejoined humanity. I cold turkeyed that Ipad habit without a sponsor. Sure, I miss it. But, my Iphone allows me to surf the net, answer emails, etc.....and I find myself much more available to everybody and everything around me. The Ipad is lots of fun and entertaining, but definitely something that I can live without.......at least until the release of the Ipad 3.;)

Interesting thread. I understand where you're coming from. At the moment I'm sitting here in the lounge watching television browsing on my iPad with my MBP in the office that could just as easily be on my lap in the lounge. Why isn't it? To be honest it's because I can't be bothered to unhook the LED display and external drive, pretty pathetic reason, granted. My point is, I've accepted it's just convenience. If I had an iMac or Mac Pro I could justify having the iPad.

Do I use the iPad for email? Nope, iPhone is the preference for that. Purely because im used to emailing on a phone, brought up with BB's as its just something I associate emails with.

Do I use it to improve business efficiency? Nope, MBP and display does that. Do I use it for intensive applications nope.

In summary my iPad is good to browse the Internet whilst watching TV and watch the occasional catch up TV service.

Let's face it, if you're a gamer you would chose the PS3 or XBOX, if you're a pro you would use a desktop or laptop. The app store is way off any of my expectations, out of the 100's of thousands of apps there are a handful or 2 that I would class as useful.

My mum loves er iPad to cane my dads credit card with online shopping and she's not computer illiterate enough to use a desktop or laptops perspective. It's a consumer product and people but it like us because we're whores for tech and then moan about it a few months after we've bought it.

And I can't even scroll down to edit my typos in the above post so that's just annoyed me even more. Call yourself a mac friendly forum ;)
