Yes. You are the only one. Apple will sell exactly one unit...to you.

You got to be ********** kidding me...

You're not funny, my friend. :) Try to go to the public school, you might have a bit more luck there.

I am really looking forward to the device. Slightly disappointed in the price, but this is the iPad I have wanted since I found the first gen too heavy. The form factor alone makes it for me.

I am going to use it the same way I used my third gen and enjoy every single moment of it.

The mini is better then the iPad 2. Better camera, siri and the screen will look sharper since same amount of pixels in a smaller screen.

I'm excited for it! I'll be pre-ordering. You get everything the iPad 2 has and more for a cheaper price in a form factor I personally like more. Sold.

I'll be selling my iPad 3 for the mini. I never game on my 3, only use it for a bit of casual browsing at home (mostly use my MBA otherwise) but would love a smaller iPad for browsing/video when Im at work/out and about. I use a Kindle (soon to be Paperwhite) for ebook reading. I'll miss the retina display, but otherwise I won't miss anything else about the 3.

It's absolutely gorgeous, well-sized (screen) and light as hell (the lightest 7" tablet?).
Although it could be a bit cheaper and it could have both a greater pixel density and a faster chip (why no A5X?), I'm not buying a price or pure specs. I'm buying something for what it actually does, for the fact that it does it well, for the fact that I can be sure it will continue to be doing it well for quite some time and for the fact that I can be sure I'll have support whenever it doesn't.
I won't be getting a cheaper 7" tablet, because I don't want a cheap 7" tablet. I will be getting a product that will have beautiful design and great quality, that is more useful and useable than its competitors, and that simply works well and has great service in any case.

(And another differentiating factor between the ipad 2 and mini: the latter's faster wi-fi connection -like its big brother #4)

Actually, the more I think about it, the less interested I am in the mini. A retina v2 is absolutely nailed on, and I KNOW I won't be able to resist a retina mini, regardless if I bought the first one or not.

There are only two things the Mini is missing as compared to the updated 9" iPad, that being the use of the A6X processor, and a Retina display.

The Retina display by far is the most expensive component in a tablet, so I think it goes without saying that it wasn't going to be included in the first generation. As far as the A6 chip goes, sure, I would have like to have one, but coming from an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4S, I can tell you that the iPad mini will not suffer any performance issues.

So you don't get Retina, and you don't get the A6 processor, but you do get a $170 less price point. All things considered, I think it's a fair deal. Granted, I would have been happier had they stuck at $299, but I understand why they went with $329 given the price point of the iPod touch.

maybe.

but its obvious this has more to do with marketing strategies than technology limitations. they have the technology and system in place to be able to do it at an affordable price.

so much for apple's vision of "making the best possible products". this is blatant marketing scheme to rip people off.

Personally, I like it way more than I thought I would. I figured it would be nice, but nothing really special. The finished product looks way better than I imagined, and the light weight is what sold me.

I'm pre-ordering a white 16GB on Friday to use as my streaming/airplay device, along with some gaming.

OMG IT HAS THE SAME SCREEN RESOLUTION SO IT MUST HAVE ALL THE SAME SPECS AS THE IPAD 2.

Seriously you guys did you even read the tech specs? Better cameras, 4G LTE, possibly more RAM, new connector... people only seem to focus on one little detail, and let it ruin everything else for them.

For what they're charging vs what you're getting...yeah - you love it and so will millions of others.

It still doesn't change the fact that other tablets are out there - much cheaper- better specs and do pretty much the same thing.

It's not the mini.
you're in love with the logo.

Exactly. Not only that, but they're totally discounting the display because it's not retina - but they're neglecting the fact that because it's smaller, it's closer to retina, despite being the same resolution.

Since the announcement of the iPad Mini, I've seen a ton of threads by people who are very disappointed with the new iPad.

I'm absolutely in love with it. I see it as a perfect upgrade from my now a couple of years old iPad 2.

Anyone else who feel like I do? :)

As an iPad 3 owner, I must say I absolutely agree with you. It 'only misses' the retina display and an A6 chip - in all other aspects, it's got equal specs to the iPad 4 (aside from the two obvious differences: size and design).

I'm not going to buy the iPad mini, or the iPad 4 (as I'm still satisfied, although somewhat disappointed an iPad 4 has been released already, with my iPad 3).

If I, however, owned a first generation iPad (or second generation, like you) I would have definitely gone for the iPad mini. It's cheaper, it's display is still way better than that of the iPad 2 and it's got almost equal specs compared to the iPad 4.

:)

Really? There are other tablets out there that will sync seamlessly to my Mac, iPhone, and full size iPad?

With better specs too? That will run all of my apps? And give me the same user experience?

Yeah. Didn't think so.

Yep, I feel very similar.

Sure, they have the technology, but it isn't that simple. Let's face it, along with providing a smaller/slimmer form factor, just as important was coming in at a a competitive price point while maintaining margins. I'm not sure that Apple could have put a Retina display in a first generation device and been able to price it competitively while still maintaining their margins. Apple didn't become the world's most valuable company by slacking on their margins.

As far as ripping people off, I don't think that is a fair statement to make. It sounds like you are upset that they didn't give you the model you wanted, and you make an emotional statement.

In summary, clearly there are going to be areas of compromise when rolling out a new product line, and the lack of a Retina display was one of them. I have an iPad 2 and have no problem at all with the display resolution. Let's remember, just 8 mere months ago, all everyone had was same resolution the mini will be shipping with, in a much larger form factor, and there weren't legions of people deeming it crap.

Certainly I understand that once you have been introduced to Retina, that it's hard to go back, but labeling something as crap or a blatent rip off isn't fair either, IMHO of course.
