Would you like a physically bigger iPhone?

Having owned a Droid X I would say I wouldn't mind a larger iPhone. The Droid X is hardly a brick, and is just as pocketable as the current iPhone. Also, choice is never a bad thing.

I think many iPhone users need to wake up and see that Apple is always the trend starter, and never the trend continuer or finisher.

The iPhone's 3.5" screen size is now pathetic compared to smartphones with 4" and bigger screens.

As for it being too big, many need to remember that old-school whiners complained that the iPhone was too big once. I am sure you'll get over the size, or just get a smaller phone.

I don't mind if they go BIGGER. Just give me a kick-stand! But I know that won't be aesthetically pleasing and people will complain breaking it, so I don't expect that either.

One thing I like about Android is Bluetooth isn't crippled. Well, HTC did for some reason, but not the others. I didn't realize you can use a Wii-mote to play games on Android. So if the XPERIA PLAY is too damn steep at $900+ because Sony thinks they are Apple, then a Wii-mote makes a decent alternative to play games although I wouldn't want to carry that around in my pocket. I pray Sony Ericsson teams up with Google and makes us a Nexus Play. I prefer a stock Android and no carrier bloatware or restrictions.

I just want more form factors for iPhone, period! Mini, XXL, or slide-out gaming pads, just make them! Android is winning because it accommodates different crowds with different taste. Of course, it gets fragmented too.

4.3 inch screen woud be much more accommodating for this -

2D platformers like Mario or Sonic as well as some old school NBA Jam are perfect for mobile games on the go. It could last anywhere between 5 min to longer sessions.

Samsung Galaxy S II has a 4.3" screen and is thinner than iPhone 4. (Mainly thanks to AMOLED)

And to be honest, looks amazingly elegant:

A 4-inch screen would be nice. But after using it, you'll be asking for a 4.3 inch screen. Soon, you'll be asking for 5-inch screens. You see the trend? I don't see Apple backing down on their chosen size. You want a bigger screen? Go get an iPad.

This has got to be most stupid comment i've seen in my 6 months on the forum.

I have held 3, 3.5, 4, 4.3, 4.5 inch screen phones and 4" felt like the sweet spot but apple wont wont to make the device any bigger so they would have to take the earset up higher with the front facing camera.

Honestly though the biggest I see apple going is 3.7" if at all changing the screen size.

Looks great. I dont mind the 4.3" screen as long as they didnt make the phone bigger. I have the Vibrant and the phone itself is as big as i want to go. Can still use it with one hand.

You're right, Apple obviously set the trend when they made multitasking for smartphones first, and when they were the first ones to implement Cut, Copy and Paste on smartphones. They're obviously the trend starters because they have yet to come out with a notification system.

(you were joking so i responded in a joking manner)

It's unanimous, keep it the exact same way.

Then spend a bit more on even Wilder Magical Marketing Claims!

We'll all fall for it and be even more overjoyed, Wooo Hooo!

Even better we won't have anything new to learn.

Damn how exciting :)

It still amazes me how Apple get all the little things so wrong. But the big things all so right.

Example. Why don't I have a hash key on my Mac?????? Grrrr

Well . . . um . . . I wasn't joking.

You didn't understand, so I'll be much clearer.

Apple set the trend for current smart-phones. All of them have large portrait oriented touch screens with icons on the surface that lead to light applications that take very little power to run.

Apple, however, doesn't do a good job FINISHING those trends, but giving users what they actually want/need in a device; i.e. cut/copy/paste, MMS, etc that was missing in early iPhones. (then try to explain it away as terrible as they did lack of MMS)

Now, Apple is falling behind in the area of screen size. These phones are awesome, and we do tons of things on them including some intense gaming, so why the tiny screen?

It really needs to be 4" or more in at least a second iPhone Pro model.

So true, apple left out everything that people wanted forever. And now they are doing it with the screen. Make it 4" and keep the phone the same size. Simple as that.

This has mostly become a screen size debate, but I have trouble using the iPhone one handed. Its too small, and when i hold it in my left hand, I can't reach back and touch the left side of the screen. I'm much more comfortable with an Evo.
Even the Samsung is too small for me. Ideally, I'd like to see a 4.5" screen, not just a 4.

The Droid X is an abomination. Doesn't feel good. big screen, but crappy display. That stupid lump for the camera and LED flash.

Makes sense now, and i totally agree. :)

I tend to be vague when I am not extra wordy, so sorry for the lack of detail.

But I am glad that you do, most of the sensible users know that Apple's trends have always been like this.

Like right now, we are still waiting around for Apple to implement some form of the USB 3.0 standard and maybe some eSATA goodness in the higher end models of machines. I know that we'll be waiting another 6 months for a possible answer.

Apple did however implement Thunder Bolt which is so new there are only three products that have it, and two of them are vaporware.

The same goes with the iPhone. It's high time for a more drastic update . . . preferably with a larger 4"+ Retina Display that won't crack at a moment's notice. Instead of Apple trying to use up its supply of 3.5" screens that no one else wants.

I'm afraid what we might see this summer is Apple introducing the next iPhone with a 3.7" in screen (in the same shell) and claiming it's the best thing since sliced bread. 3.7", while I'd take it, will be weak. Very weak. But it would be just like them.

One thing's for sure: There are some seriously high expectations of Apple this time around and the wolves are hungry.

Wow, that actually looks fantastic.

Honestly, when I first glanced at it, I thought it might have been an iPhone 5 mockup. Especially the pic on the left, that is EXACTLY the type of thing I want in the next iPhone.

If Apple doesn't go to a 4" screen, they need to at least REALLY expand the "usable" screen section. The ~1" dead blocks on the top and the bottom IMO is what kind of makes the iPhone dated looking. I realize Apple needs to keep the home button, but they need to make it sleeker to make more usable screen area.

I think that's why most people are afraid of a 4" screen being too big. They're assuming that if Apple went to a 4" screen that it would make it substantially bigger, when in reality if you look at the iPhone face compared to other 4" screen phones, the 4" screen phones really aren't much bigger overall. It's all got to do with the usable screen area, and Apple needs to really improve on that IMO.

When Apple ported the basic iPhone UI over to the iPad, I new that design wasn't going anywhere and I'm afraid we'll be seeing it on the iPhone for quite some time.

I really wonder what the iPhone designers are talking about when they read all these forums (and you know they do) about everyone's expectations for the next iPhone. Apple had a few years with the market all to themselves, but they've got to be feeling some pressure these days. Going two years without a design change seems like an eternity in smartphone years, especially when you're phone is now smaller than everyone else's.

Hmm, well said. The wolves are hungry and I know that Apple will keep serving light hors d'oeuvres.

I know this is a CRAZY notion but.. how about giving people a choice other than storage size and color (kind of). I'm getting older and my arms aren't getting any longer so a bigger screen would be nice.

A lot of people are afraid the iPhone is going to turn in to a huge tank like the Droid X just to get a bigger screen. Apple's smarter than that. They would kill off half their market. It's not going to happen.

If Apple even went 4", it would be something elegant like the Samsung Captivate. It's hardly larger at all, almost as thin and has rounded edges so it even seems smaller.

Now, honestly, which one of these phones looks dated?

honestly, were you trying to make the iPhone 4 look more boring and dated with the lack of color of the wallpaper? Put a bright wallpaper and it looks better IMO. Or try this, put a black wallpaper on the samsung and that looks terrible.

really what pressure? the dell streak? or the htc thunderbolt all flaunting bigger screen sizes? the average user does not care about specs. it's about how simple and easy it is to run. not everyone are nerds like us after all
