Having owned a Droid X I would say I wouldn't mind a larger iPhone. The Droid X is hardly a brick, and is just as pocketable as the current iPhone. Also, choice is never a bad thing.
A 4-inch screen would be nice. But after using it, you'll be asking for a 4.3 inch screen. Soon, you'll be asking for 5-inch screens. You see the trend? I don't see Apple backing down on their chosen size. You want a bigger screen? Go get an iPad.
Samsung Galaxy S II has a 4.3" screen and is thinner than iPhone 4. (Mainly thanks to AMOLED)
And to be honest, looks amazingly elegant:

I think many iPhone users need to wake up and see that Apple is always the trend starter, and never the trend continuer or finisher.
You're right, Apple obviously set the trend when they made multitasking for smartphones first, and when they were the first ones to implement Cut, Copy and Paste on smartphones. They're obviously the trend starters because they have yet to come out with a notification system.
(you were joking so i responded in a joking manner)

Well . . . um . . . I wasn't joking.
You didn't understand, so I'll be much clearer.
Apple set the trend for current smart-phones. All of them have large portrait oriented touch screens with icons on the surface that lead to light applications that take very little power to run.
Apple, however, doesn't do a good job FINISHING those trends, but giving users what they actually want/need in a device; i.e. cut/copy/paste, MMS, etc that was missing in early iPhones. (then try to explain it away as terrible as they did lack of MMS)
Now, Apple is falling behind in the area of screen size. These phones are awesome, and we do tons of things on them including some intense gaming, so why the tiny screen?
It really needs to be 4" or more in at least a second iPhone Pro model.

Now, honestly, which one of these phones looks dated?

Makes sense now, and i totally agree.![]()
I'm afraid what we might see this summer is Apple introducing the next iPhone with a 3.7" in screen (in the same shell) and claiming it's the best thing since sliced bread. 3.7", while I'd take it, will be weak. Very weak. But it would be just like them.Instead of Apple trying to use up its supply of 3.5" screens that no one else wants.

When Apple ported the basic iPhone UI over to the iPad, I new that design wasn't going anywhere and I'm afraid we'll be seeing it on the iPhone for quite some time. It's all got to do with the usable screen area, and Apple needs to really improve on that IMO.

One thing's for sure: There are some seriously high expectations of Apple this time around and the wolves are hungry.
A lot of people are afraid the iPhone is going to turn in to a huge tank like the Droid X just to get a bigger screen. Apple's smarter than that. They would kill off half their market. It's not going to happen.
If Apple even went 4", it would be something elegant like the Samsung Captivate. It's hardly larger at all, almost as thin and has rounded edges so it even seems smaller.

I really wonder what the iPhone designers are talking about when they read all these forums (and you know they do) about everyone's expectations for the next iPhone. Apple had a few years with the market all to themselves, but they've got to be feeling some pressure these days. Going two years without a design change seems like an eternity in smartphone years, especially when you're phone is now smaller than everyone else's.
