It doesn’t matter to me. I don’t transfer anything from my phone via a cable. I will transfer movies to my iPad via lightning if I’m going on a long flight.

I transfer photo/video to my local NAS and lighting speed does not live up to its name. it is still at USB 2.0 speed 20Mps, over 15 years old speed.

USB C is industry standard, and it should be cheaper than lighting. Can't wait for USB C, been waiting since iphone 7

When you start transferring those big files now from the camera over Lighting you will realise how much USB-C would make sense.
I have nothing against Lighting port but its old tech and unless they update it then its dead.
Also, overall its better to have USB-C everywhere for now. Less cables, less waste, less crap produced. We all benefit.
One cable to rule them all :-D
Yeah, the only advantage to USB-C that I see is data transfer speeds, but I never transfer files any larger than an average MP3 to or from my phone. Even my laptop doesn't have a USB-C port!

I’d rather not throw out my existing cables / have to go out and buy new ones.
And yes, I’ve also seen how poorly USB-C connectors can wear over time.

There is also the possibility that there will be no ports next year!

Apple can be pig-headed that way and the EU forcing their hand may just mean the port-less iPhone becomes reality in the US and the EU next year… 🤣

Chances are good I get the iPhone 14 Pro Max this year as I’m sure there will be no sim tray on the Canadian phones next year and a good chance of a completely port-less phone.

I like the lightening as it is more durable and the connection is secure. I also shoot video and such but hardly ever use the iPhone. I never noticed a want for speed - but that’s just me. Who are these important videographers shooting the next Saving Private Ryan on a iPhone that need USB C for transfer speeds. 🤣

USB C Is much more fragile because it's hollow inside. iPhones are daily devices that does not need the ridiculous speeds of thunderbolt. What apple should do is simply update their lightning(somewhat faster) and get over with the EU thing

It is criminal of Apple to provide these image and video capabilities without a fast transfer method, especially while calling it “Pro.”

Well given that my current iPhone 12 mini uses lightning, my AirPods 3 use lightning, my AirPods Max use lightning, my battery pack uses lightning, my Apple TV Remote uses lightning, and my MacBook Air uses Magsafe, yes i’m happy that if I upgrade my phone to any of the 14s I don’t have to carry around another cable.
I also am happy that there’s sticking with a more stable sturdy port for now.
As for the future, I think it’s inevitable they’ll switch to USBC, I think it’s probably a good thing, but also I think it’s going to take years before the majority of Apple customers see any benefit.
Basically what I’m saying is, it’s going to take a lot more than a simple iPhone switch over to get to the point where only one cable is necessary to bring.
but yes, I do think the change Will and needs to happen eventually, even if it’s going to be extremely frustrating for a lot of people.

No. USB-C is an inferior connector from a form-factor and durability standpoint. I hate that USB-C connections have play and wiggle around (even on Macs). The charging standards are also a disaster with QC/PD being cable + brick dependent and often not labeled.

I could care less about hooking any USB-C accessory to my phone. That's an edge use case at best.

The problem with lightning isn't the connector itself. I actually have found it on my devices to be more reliable than USB-C. If it breaks it is the cable that breaks rather than the port itself. However the problem I have with lightning is they never upgraded the data throughput speed.

Exactly this. I have so many lightning cables, docks, accessories, etc. I’d need to spend hundreds if they move to USB-C.

They’ll unlock the speed before they change it. It’s capable of usb 3 speeds it’s just locked. It made sense in the iPads with them being laptop replacements with iPadOS and supporting standard computer peripherals.

I'd have preferred USB-C, provided it didn't mean design trade-offs I wouldn't have liked (which is not a given). The port is just more capable than Lightning (e.g. transfer speeds), and at this point, Lightning is an odd duck out in terms of cables I manage. I'd prefer to charge it with all my other USB-C devices.

The port getting loose... that's not a knock on USB-C. That's a knock on a specific port design, or the port being abused (e.g. excessive pulling/yanking on the port, damaging it). And—I could be wrong on this—I haven't heard of that being a widespread issue on any of those laptop models, so I'm guessing that's what happened. It's not especially hard to do with plug-in cables that are always connected to a charger. One reason why it's nice that they brought back MagSafe.

Except that did not happen. The only time those laptops were plugged in, was when they were not in use and charging. Also, it’s a known issue, a quick google search will show that. Either way, let’s hope for the best with the iPhone.

I can't say that using the lightening plug has disrupted my life in any way.
