Am I the only one?

A bit harsh ;)

The Razr was never about functionality, it was all style - I used mine whilst out socialising, for all other times I had an O2 XDA II PocketPC phone (in an aluminium crash case) - it was like carrying a hip flask around in my pocket - good protection against a sniper's heart shot :D

Modern phones are undoubtedly powerful and indispensable, however, they're all samey and characterless - I have an Android and struggle to remember what model it is until I inspect it.

Every phone and current OS are so similar and bland. The phones all have extremely similar designs. The OSes are all flat and colorful. Back in the good old days of difference between certain things, everyone had a unique 3-D and bold design. iOS had many real life counterparts, android really popped out, and even windows phone didn't have the ultra flat design. They each were distinct. Similar to the PowerPC macs, how they were so different from what everyone else's beige or black boxes were. Now current macs have many close copy cats in terms of design.

I think apple is due for a redesign again, just let Jony go all out with every product.

----------

Wow. Are you serious?

Maybe, I'm not the person to be asking though.

I agree with that. The Moto X is the only modern phone that you can actually customize.....

Matt.

I have an iPhone 5. I do not use it as a computer, I have several Macs at home and Macs/PCs at work for that.

I do use it for convenience. A music player when driving, a way to email or text when I'm out or at work and a phone to make calls.

It's been jailbroken twice. Each time I customized it to with an inch of it's life.

Before my iPhone 5 I had an HTC Touch Pro, which is a WinMo 6.1 Pro device. I completely customized that too so that it was able to post to Facebook and was running Sense 2.1 w/Weather. All done with CAB files, no ROMs.

But it was also not my computer. I use devices for their intended purposes. But just because I have computers for their intended role, does not mean I do not want a device that allows me the convenience of a quick web search, a short text or email when I'm not at a computer.

That's the usefulness of a smartphone and is the purpose I put it to.

Not everyone shares your black or white convictions about the way things are or should be.

you can do everything you just specified on even a flip phone or any phone with a music player and internet access.....

ok, you're going to tell me that texting by pressing keys up to 3 times just to get a certain letter is easier than a touch keyboard? Or that browsing the internet on a 4in screen by moving a 2 by 2 pxl mouse that can only go in certain places by pushing a circle and a button in the center? Or that listening to music off of a shoddy speaker in the phone will sound good? Or that 1x/2G/EDGE is faster than 4G LTE or even 3G? Or that trying to watch a video will be easy? Or that you can take a good picture with the VGA-quality camera? Or that call quality will be good? Or that even in 2015, you are still going to experience Dead Zones in suburban areas? Or that trying to read, receive, or send emails will be easy? Or that you will be called a poor loser by whatever friends you have that you are in your 20~30s and your still using a flip-phone as opposed being cool with a fresh off the labor line brand-new phone?

Welcome to the Future, A.K.A. 2015. Would you like a tour?

you still make no vaild argument. you can get keyboard phones such as a BB Curve, LG900G, Samsung S900 non keyboard phones have T9 type mode which is the same thing as auto correct. Even the speakers on smartphones sound like garbage they are all tinny sounding. my old phone had a 2MP camera 1280x1024 pictures great quality. Call quality is 2G still it sounds no different on a $10 candybar phone then it would on a $750 smart phone. You will experience dead zones on a cell phone PERIOD makes no different what kind it is. there is touch screen phone such as the LG800G that have email, facebook and several other things built right in....

you make no vaild points in any bit of this post...... sorry you lose!

Absolutely true.

But here is the major difference between you, me and a lot of people on this forum.

I buy what I want.

If it happens to be what I need then great. I don't need six displays for my QS. I don't need a 64GB iPhone 5. But I bought them. Because I wanted them, not because I have a need for it.

Yes there are things I solely buy out of need because those things are necessary, but even then I will buy more (in quality or quantity) if I can because I want to.

You may be satisfied with only having what you need. I am not. I want what I want and if I have the cash to get what I want, I will get it whether I need it or not - because I want it.

Need for me is irrelevant when it come to what I want.

But worse...

Not really. I used a smartphone, A family member gave it to me for free because they had a extra one...... Didn't even use it a week, Phone slow as hell, unresponsive, call quality sucked, took me 10 minutes to bring up a web page or type a text message while i can use Google Voice and my computer and send the same text same amount of characters in a fraction of the time. I could type faster on my then keyboard slider phone than on a smartphone.

if you dont "Need" something than you dont have a purpose for it. Do i NEED a PowerMac? No. Why did i get one? Because they are cheaper than any computer you can buy and i was in NEED of a computer. otherwise its just a waste of money that could be used for more important things like bills, car insurance, credit card bills. But hey if you have the money to blow thats your choice. Im just a practical and logical person.

You haven't heard about HD Voice, have you?

Still audio, Its been tested that sound is better on even a rotory landline phone than on a iPhone....... still not exempt to dead zones.

And that's why you don't get a cheap phone, as you said yourself, 'you can do everything you just specified on even a flip phone or any phone with a music player and internet access' but if you do it on a flip phone instead of an iPhone 6 you're not going to get the same experience are you? When we talk about 'smartphones' we don't mean $50 'smartphones' from 2007, so get that out of your head.

The world has moved on and not every smartphone is 'slow as hell, unresponsive, call quality sucked, took me 10 minutes to bring up a web page or type a text message' and you should know since you're on an Apple forum.

You say you are in need of a computer then say you DON'T need a PM G4 which was obsolete a decade ago, as if you're spoiling yourself with that outdated c*ap for all your daily computing.

That explains why your family member gave it to you for free then, doesn't it. You know what you're going to get with a free 'smartphone' from 2007, don't set your expectations too high!

Ok, then why doesn't EVERYONE use those outdated POS. You said it yourself, these outdated phones are 'slow as hell, unresponsive, call quality sucked, took me 10 minutes to bring up a web page or type a text message'

That's why you're stuck in 2007, smartphones have moved on!

it wasnt from 2007 it was from 2010 or so...... A $50 smartphone...... yea like any smart phone cheaper than a computer (or one more expensive) will be any better than a real computer?..... Please........... I knew what i was getting into with a PowerMac G4 but it can do everything a 2008 Windows XP or MacBook can do...

So am I. My needs get met first. And I wait for my wants until I can get them.

Need or purpose however, is still irrelevant as to what I want.

A $50 smartphone from 2010 would still give you a pretty bad impression of what smartphones are like today. Many modern smartphones are much faster than your MDD for tasks like web browsing and YouTube, and they're a lot more portable as well. Posted from my iPhone 5s.

Keep telling yourself that. And your appaling spelling and grammar is giving me a headache.

EDIT: Oh shoot, I just found out you're 22! That makes it even worse. :O

where was it stated it was $50? I didnt buy it but when talk to the family member they said it was a $250 phone...... If a $250 phone was that much of garbage i wouldnt expect anything better for more. a $250 phone with less specs than a $80 PowerMac? pathetic

Yeah, a $250 phone from 2010 isn't expected to perform well 5 years after, technology is moving on. Look at your friends, if you have any that is. How many of them have an iPhone/$500+ smartphone and how many of them use a computer from 1998?

It said $50 in your post. Maybe it was a typo?

In any case, your MDD was not worth the same amount in 2010 that it is today. And what I said about a $50 2010 smartphone still goes for a $250 2010 smartphone today. Smartphones have improved greatly since then.

Since when is owning a cell/smart phone and a computer and either/or thing. No one is using a smartphone to replace a laptop or desktop. It's a convenience thing. Your needs are different than my needs. Clearly your adaptation of new technology stopped in 2007. All 2007 technology will work great in the context of 2007. Some of us have continued to move forward, others have not.

Personally, carrying an iPhone is much easier than carrying around a phone, PDA, camera, gps, bunch of books, etc.

You know what kind of phone my work gives me? A Motorola Pager. It's not better than a cell phone and no worse because it serves an entirely different purpose and not meant to replace the other.
