I saw the first movie, it was alright, but I was not that impressed--mainly it was not dark enough for me. But I have no idea how the story has developed since then so I cannot really comment either way. I do enjoy watching things about magic, sci-fi, demons, vampires....I was a HUGE Buffy and Angel fan so that stuff is cool to me. Like I said, I just don't know enough of the story to care! :)

I didn't like the movies much (the current one, the 4th one is okay) but I really didn't like the other movies.

As for the books, they're all better than the movies but I didn't really like the books until I got to the third and fourth books. I just happened to treat the first two and foundation building for the third and fourth. :D

*: Am I the only person who was reading Michael Chrighton in 5th grade?

Crichton, not Chrighton. Nope, I started reading his books in the 4th grade.

*Back to topic*

I'm not a fan of Harry Potter either. I think what the books have done for reading is wonderful though. These books have really renewed a desire for people to read.

I hope that desire extends beyond Harry Potter.

I have to say i am a fan of the books. My sister, who reads way to much for a normal human being, turned me on to them. Like devilot said the first two books were fine but not as good as the ones after them.

After i finished reading the books my mom and dad started and they really like them. It just depends i guess, some people like the books and some dont.

I have seen the fourth movie and i have to say i am kinda dissapointed. I was hoping for more. Now i have to go back and see what exactly was different. While the movie is long i just think that it could have done better. Of the four movies so far i have to say that i liked the third the best.

The only person in this country who doesn't care about Harry Potter? Honestly, the hooplah is driving me nuts!
Ive never gave a flying fart about Harry Potter since Book 1.
I worked as a manager for a book store, during books 1-3, never read anyone of them, have only seen the first movie once when I caught it on cable and nothing else was on.

it seems every harry potter fan i know are hell bent on convincing everyone else to read/watch it, and i want to know why. most people aren't like that over other things, just harry potter. i've heard the "if you just give it a chance, you may like it" line more times then i can count and i'm sick of it
Replace "harry potter" with "Mac" :p

So what :p

Whose side are you on anyway???

couldn't get through the first book

was forced to watch the movie in one of my film analysis classes

I HATE IT --- but i think it's my general hate of wizards -- long beards and pointy hats just don't do it for me

I made no comment as to if it was a bad thing or not. Evangelism can be quite effective.

Now if JK masters the Halo effect, I'll be worried. But there is a Harry Potter rumor site (with forums)

It's Burger King's Fault

i really wasn't into the whole harry potter thing when i first heard about it. i was in chile 1998-2000, and really didn't have time, but when i got back to the states, it was huge. anyway, there was too much hype and it felt too targeted to 6yo kids so i never bothered.

came home with two 99cent whoppers one night and decided read the first thing i could find. it was my roommate's fiance's copy of the first book. read it and didn't pick up the next one until six months later when i decided to read all 4 of them. i was impressed to day the least. it's a series that reads quickly and grows on you.

so, i used to be like you, but now i'm not. and i read war and peace in 7th grade - is that a good enough replacement for crichton?

God I hate Harry Potter. The woman made me read the first book, and I stopped somewhere around page 90 -- and I love reading. God. Could any novelist suck the rhythm and sound out of language as Rowling does? She has the ear of someone who's earless.

So, the woman has also dragged me to all the movies. I understand I'm supposed to like, be hooked by the plot. And I understand I'm sposed to like, care about the kids. But I don't really believe in plot. And the kids are kind of ... hard to care about.

It's up there with Brittney Spears and NSYNC on my pop-culture hate chart.

God I hate Harry Potter.

As I read your comment, I'm listening to Britney Spears. Plus I really like Harry Potter. I guess I should just trade in my Macs for Windows boxes and give up now :)

As long as you're listening to Brittney on your Mac, you're cool with me.

Brittney, on the other hand, would need to buy me a new Mac to get off my hate list.

Of course :)

Is there another way to play music, other than mp3s in iTunes on a Mac? ;)

I liked and have read all of the books, but I've only seen the first movie. For some reason I didn't care for it brought to "life" on the Big Screen and so I've skipped the other versions which followed. The books are a different matter.... could hardly wait to get my hands on the most recent one, but I didn't bother to pre-order or to stand in line for hours at a store just to be among the very first to buy it.

OTB

I love the fact that the Potter books have children reading, but that's about it.

They are children's books after all, that many adults seem to enjoy too.

The problem I always had was that too many of the ideas seemes to be borrowed from Terry Pratchett.

I guess the circle of life/like goes on: Pratchett gets accused of 'borrowing' from Adams, Rowling fron Pratchett.....

And so it goes....
