Following the launch of Apple Pay earlier this week, a number of users were disappointed to discover that the Amazon Rewards Card offered by Chase was not supported, although the reason for the omission was unclear given that many other Chase cards do support Apple Pay. Amazon has, however, now confirmed to GeekWire that it does plan to support Apple Pay with the card in the future. Amazon reportedly is working to enable the service for launch at an undisclosed date.
But an Amazon spokesman confirmed to GeekWire this evening it is working to enable the Amazon.com Rewards Visa Card for use on Apple Pay, although declined to say when it would be available.

Chase representatives reportedly confirmed that Amazon opted out of Apple Pay and was the only consumer Chase card that was not compatible with the payment service. The reason for this non-participation was not provided, sparking rumors that Amazon was deliberately rebuffing Apple's mobile payment efforts for competitive reasons.

Apple launched Apple Pay on Monday with the support of high-profile retailers such as Walgreens and major credit card companies including Visa, Master Card, and American Express. Apple Pay works with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, both of which include an NFC chip to process the transactions wirelessly at compatible point-of-sale terminals. The new iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 are also compatible with Apple Pay, but only for in-app purchases.

Only card I have that didn't work. Welcome news - and would be even better if Amazon ends up supporting Apple Pay on their website.....my Amazon card is only ever used for those purchases and somehow my information was stolen last year.

Why not focus on making this available to non-US customers?

I'm sure they are.....but Apple is an American company. They'll roll it out across the world as fast as they can. It's not like they've ever been wary of making more money lol....

Agreements with banks likely take some time.

Didn't seem to work for my Southwest Chase Visa either. :(

EDIT:
Never mind, I got it to work.

Why not focus on making this available to non-US customers?

Seems to me like rushing it out to multiple countries with millions of banks is a great way to repeat iOS 8.0.1.

Apple's initial rollout really only involved a tiny number of banks that just happened to have a huge percentage of US customers. I think it's a great way to start slow, but also start big.

If it goes smoothly (as it seems to have so far), I think the international rollout will be sooner rather than later.

This is good, but notice that Amazon is pretty much the only Chase card that doesn't support ApplePay? I think Amazon betting against Apple is a bad move. I'm not going to wait for ApplePay to be supported; I'm switching to a different card because the future is now, and I'm not waiting.

Interestingly, looking around in various news sites, I see next to no reporting of this beyond the Geekwire article. Who else thinks if it were Apple pulling this kind of blatantly anti-competitive stunt that #cardgate would already be trending on Twitter and a countless articles about It would have already deluged the news sites?

Everyone is saying it's "coming" but none are saying when. Discover is saying the same. My other bank is saying the same.

They're way too far behind. Apple went to them months ago and they said no. Now they're playing catch up as they're realizing that they're going to lose customers for being so behind.

Well this is happy news! This was the only card I have I thought would work at launch.

I'm not holding my breath. This is just damage control. If Amazon wanted to support it, it would already work. Chase has many other cards that do work. How different can Amazon be, functionally?

I have four cards in my physical wallet. Chase and Capital One are also in my Apple Pay virtual wallet. My AMEX did not make the Apple Pay cut -- seems corporate cards are not eligable (according to AMEX website). My Banana Republic Card did not make the cut either.

Not much I can do about my work card (unless I move jobs to a company whose corp card is on Apple pay), but Banana is potentially losing a customer.... Just saying.....

Amazon... Meh... they never play nice with Apple. And PayPal I barely use. All banks and vendors need to realize that if they do not support this, they will see some percentage of their geeky customers leave.

Most banks are very conservative and slow. They need studies and multiple approvals before they can decide something is safe and in the banks interest. Most banks and businesses will eventually implement this (except Walmart :D).

I have the Banana Republic Visa card as well and I have to say that it is by far the worst credit card management system I've ever seen. Synchrony Bank (formerly GE) is behind it and the way statements are viewed/paid is so terrible that they must have purposefully designed it that way in order to obfuscate what your charges are. They also are the only bank that blocks Mint.com, so I can't even review my charges that way, which is how I manage my personal finances.

Given all that, I had do doubt that :apple:Pay would not be supported by them either.

I'd cancel the card, but I buy so much from Banana and other Gap stores that it's still worth it just for those purchases.

But wow are they just terrible.

I have the PayPal MasterCard business debit/cc, and it won't work either. I get 1% cash back for most every purchase, as long as I run it as a cc and not debit...so I know they want the business....

With the split w/ebay, PP will likely add apple pay support, but, as to when....?

I have zero cards that work w/Apple Pay.

I don't get it......what is so much better about using a cell phone (which has problems with lasting an entire day without a charge anyway) to pay for something than simply swiping a credit card?

Really, it makes no sense to me.

While this is a start, it has very limited support from the multitude of banks out there. In fact, I think there are only 9 banks participating http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6288 I have 5 credit cards and 1 Bank Card in my LEATHER WALLET, of which, 1 was only usable with Apple Pay.

My question is, how do I get my APPLE gift card on there, they showed a picture of Apple Gift card in the E-Wallet???
