I probably won't use this above my chromecast, but it seems like a great device to take with me to hotels on business trips, as you'll be able to log onto hotel wifi directly and AP isolation won't be an issue.

ugh, ordered yesterday at like 3:00PM and have a Dec 11th ship date

Also did anyone notice that Amazon is shipping rdy to go (even in your account). So if you buy one as a gift i'm assuming you have to plug it in and log back out.

I will probably use this more than Chromecast, but will use Chromecast to play games while mirroring.

I wonder if people that sign up for the 30 day trial can order this (i'm guessing it would work)

also I had a friend order one today and I see the delivery is pushed out to mid January now

They went super fast. I ordered mine within minutes of it going live and it was pushed a week out.

Mine came in yesterday. It is shocking how fast it is. I downloaded the android remote app for it, and the voice search works great. Easily the best $20 I have spent in a long time.

I got in on the $19 deal, but mine isn't expected for delivery until 12/10-12/12.

Guess I'll just make it an xmas present from me to the TV in the guest bedroom that doesn't have any cable box on it right now.

Mine was original slated for 11/26, but shipped with the first batch. I bet you get it early

I just got it and for $20 it was a steal.

However, I simply plugged it in, entered my WiFi account info and it knew my Amazon Prime account. How could it possibly know this info and auto-log me in????

My original delivery was scheduled for Dec 2nd. I just got an email saying that it will be delivered on Nov 25th.

Probably configured based on the account you order it from. If I'm remembering correctly, I experienced this with the original Kindle Fire. It already had my email account but I still had to enter the password.

Amazon could easily do this by matching the serial number to your Prime account and have it auto fill when it connects to their servers. Kind of strange they do this as it could have been a gift to someone else.

My guess is that they tied it back to the IP Address. I bet if you had renewed the IP it wouldn't have done that.

Staples has them for $25 right now. I picked one up just to see if it is any better than my Roku 3, ATV3, or Chromecast.

It has Plex, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime so if it is faster than the others, that is good enough for me.

definitely a good value. we have ours in our bedroom since it's a non-smart TV. I do still prefer the Roku for two main reason. USB Slot as I can rip or download movies and plug it in directly via a USB Drive. Plex works okay but still buggy in terms of IQ and speeds. I also love that the remote has a plug for headphones. Often times I stay up late on weekends to watch a movie the and it keeps the place quiet. Especially hard in an open floor plan home like ours.

I just picked one up at Best Buy for 25 and loaded Xbmc, will test it tomorrow but seems like my Fire TV.

I set mine up today and played with it. For some reason I have to refresh Plex every time in order to see my PC, yet the iMac is always seen. Guess I am going to have to move my server over to the iMac.

Hulu, Nextflix and Amazon Prime all same as on the Roku. UI is slightly better and more organized on Roku. Load time is faster on Fire TV though. Gonna box up my Roku, Chromecast and Apple TV for storage. As an Amazon Prime user, the Fire TV stick is the best option and I like the remote the best.

If Apple TV doesn't get refreshed soon, it might as well just be killed off.

I am thinking they are going to refresh soon. What keeps the appleTV alive for me is airplay. It just works so much better than the competition in my experience. I can easily airplay any video in safari (From an ipad/iphone) at it is smooth and retains the quality. Trying to use "screen mirror" from the competition pals in comparison.

The apps that have airplay type functionality play just fine for the competition, but pushing a video in a browser is a bad experience. I do not have a laptop, so I cannot compare how the chromecast does with casting a tab from a PC, but tying to mirror a video from a tablet browser is horrid.

For example, I pretty much use afdah.com for all of my movie watching. Trying to "cast" a video from the website does not work well at all with anything other than airplay and the appleTV. The chromecast cannot play 2 seconds without it crapping out.

Has anyone rooted and installed apps onto this?

Matt you are having problems screen mirroring from an android device to chromecast? I mirror premier league games from the nbc live extra app ( since it doesn't natively support chromcast)to my tv all the time and find it good enough. I believe the mirroring is far superior from android than from the pc.

I've even tried mirroring flash streams with dolphin browser with success

Yeah, the content I push from the browser on an android is very laggy (I have a 50mbps connection). The apps all work great (netflix, vudu, etc). I was thinking maybe it had to do with the processing power in the chromecast. I was using a nexus 5.
