So apparently there are no plans for Amazon to come out with their Instant Video service for the new AppleTV. I can not in the world understand why would they do this? It would do nothing but benefit them to support the new service.

I honestly think they are digging their own grave for that service if they do this. Anyone who uses AppleTV and may have used Amazon Instant Video, is probably going to switch. Besides, I bet most Apple people didn't haven't purchased much on Amazon anyway for their instant video.

Just going to predict, even if there is nothing up front, Amazon will eventually cave and come out with an App for AppleTV.

Thoughts?

I'm sure their doing this b/c they are having a pissing match with Apple about being able to order content through the application. They probably don't want to give Apple a cut and Apple isn't giving them an exception. IMO they should continue to do what they are doing on other IOS apps just bring the app out and let people buy on their own site.

They are making the call that they are the stronger player and they are making the wrong call not because they aren't a strong player just b/c they are pissing off their own customers.

I love both Apple and Amazon and don't mind going to Amazon to buy something.

Stupid and counter-productive from Amazon. They're not going to get ATV users to switch to their HW with this, just annoy them. I want to drop Netflix for Prime, given how little I really use it and I'd like the shipping bonus too, but not until they're on ATV.

No reason not to do an app, you can airplay from the amazon iOS app to the Apple TV so they obviously don't have a problem with that.

They made it available for the iPhone and iPad. It doesn't make sense that they'll be holding out on ATV4. It is counterproductive, because they loyal apple consumer such as myself will not give into buying the Amazon Fire even though I'm a Prime subscriber. My major reason for my Prime membership is the shipping privilege over anything else.

However, I do notice recently that stores such as Home Depot, Beth Bath and Beyond and Target are getting more and more competitive with Amazons prices. This is why I have no trouble cancelling my Prime - I can always subscribe to Netflix if I want to stream movies and TV shows. If Amazon keep this style of business they'll eventually start losing business.

I switched. My Fire Stick works just as well as my ATV3 did and supports all the same services for a third of the price.

Yep, sucks to see this. Amazon and Apple are, IMOHO, at the pinnacle of customer service. really, both companies have always been a dream to deal with. it's unfortunate that they seem to get along like oil and water.

I asked them via Facebook and Twitter and if everone else does the same they may change their mind. So please lets bombard them with Apple TV requests. :)

By far the best CS I've ever received. I can't think of another company that is even close.

Amazon block all sale of Apple TV on their website, so I don't think they'll have an Amazon Instant Video for tvOS.

HBO Now: Yes

Apple Music: I said services, not buggy clusterf---s that don't work properly.
Eh, Apple Music hasn't been that buggy for me. Initially yes, but now works well over 5 iOS devices and 3 Macs with Family Sharing.

Would it be possible to side load the iPhone or iPad Amazon Prime App on to the Apple TV ?

I don't get this. Amazon has always focused on content. They've sold hardware (Kindle, Fire TV) before at cost (http://www.theverge.com/2014/7/24/5934647/amazon-expands-hardware-expects-wider-losses) because they are more focused on getting people to consume their content. If having an Apple TV encourages some people to get Amazon Prime, I don't understand why they wouldn't make an app.

That's the stupid and irritating thing. They make a iOS app that you can AirPlay, but refuse to give their customers the added convenience of a Apple TV app.

I don't see the connection. It doesn't make sense for Amazon to sell a product that rivals it's own just like Apple wouldn't on their own store.

However, it is in Amazon's interests to support as many platforms as possible so that they are more likely to get Amazon Prime subscriptions. Amazon often practically give away their Fire TV and sticks in regular sales, because they hope it will lead to more Amazon Prime subscriptions.

I think the jury is still out on that, but I do hope Amazon comes out with tvOS app.

Btw, anyone need a cheap Apple TV (prev-gen)? I can't sell it on Amazon now.

Sales here on MacRumors should be done exclusively through the Marketplace forum. FYI

I think it's because their Fire TVs are actually competitive in a market that the Apple TV doesn't own. Contrast this with their Kindle tablets that are fighting over scraps in an iPad world, and their Fire Phone that was dead on arrival. Denying their app on iOS isn't going to change the tides. Denying it for ATV will make some people either reconsider their purchase or entice them to throw down $40 for a Fire Stick along with their ATV.
