as much as I have been bad mouthing apple, this is where apple can shine. Please do not screw this up.. and be an awesome new device w/ nice friendly price.

I have a feeling Apple is going Middle-finger to the competition hard with the M4 Max.

up to 50-Core GPU on M4 Max & 550 GB of bandwidth.

It's time Apple went full Star Wars Palpatine
They’re making progress but it will be another generation or two before they can really compete in neural compute operation speed.

Outside of cases where models don’t fit into RAM, Apple’s throughout for inference is very very slow, like 8 times slower. I do believe thanks to Apple Intelligence cloud needs that we will see significant improvements there with either the the next Ultra / Extreme, or the one after that. But we’re 1-3 years away from those.

It’s important to look at the details to understand the scope of where they’re at in the industry, in some cases they are leading but in others they’re still pretty far behind. M4 isn’t even a hugely significant improvement over M3, it just fixes security problems and is on a much cheaper node which is the reason they accelerated this rollout. N3B is very expensive for complex SoC without amazing yields.

I do think Apple will get there by late 2028 or so, maybe sooner since they need that performant silicon internally which is a great driver to give us consumer options.

On topic this mini will be pretty great but everyone is nuts if they think Apple is going to cut costs. They demonstrated just yesterday that additional RAM comes at the expense of storage, the middle tier iMac had its storage reduced to 256gb from 512gb and I’d expect the same here.

Reading complaints about that will be a riot (this is sarcasm) because they have unrealistic expectations of what this company will do. You’re going to pay the same or more, and given the performance overall for most workloads it’ll still be worth it.

This is always the part that cracks me up about the Apple gouging

They are fully admitting how bad it is ... by the awful trade in pricing they themselves offer to folks on relatively recent components.

No, they are a company that is basically recycling your computer and would see very little value from buying it back from you. I mean, what do you expect them to do. "Here, have market value for an item that we have to refurbish, sell, re-warranty and generally handle".

Its literally just something for people who can't be bothered to sell it privately to get a bit of money back. They were offering me about £900 for my £2800 M1 Macbook pro from 3 years ago. How do you think they will make their money back on that?

What other manufacturing companies buy back your used items for good money pray tell?

I’m fortunate to have a computer that will last me for another three years. Since I only use Logic Pro, Word, and Safari daily, I don’t need any other applications.

I think Amazon may have gotten it right with the new Mac mini--it looks like a half-height version of the current Mac Studio. Which means it will be physically smaller than the old Mac mini, which is heavily based on a very old chassis design from 13 years ago in many ways.

My prediction was always 12cm x 12cm x 7cm. I can now say that I was correct on the 12cm but I was off on the height. It looks more and more like 5cm.

So the revised measurements are 12x12x5cm

Amazon has seemingly leaked the rumored next-generation Mac mini ahead of Apple's announcement this week, revealing several details.

Our concept of a smaller Mac mini

According to a comparison chart on Amazon's product listing for the new iMac, the new Mac mini will be available with M4 and M4 Pro chip options, with up to a 14-core CPU and up to a 20-core GPU. In addition, the chart indicates the new Mac mini can be configured with up to 64GB of RAM, which is double the current 32GB limit for unified memory. Storage capacities for the Mac mini will apparently continue to max out at 8TB, like the previous model.

The chart includes a very tiny image of the new Mac mini that seemingly confirms the computer will feature two front-facing USB-C ports, as previously rumored. It is possible these could be Thunderbolt 4 ports, but the chart does not specify. And is that a headphone jack on the front right? The image is a little too small and blurry to say for sure.

When shown side-by-side with the Mac Studio in the comparison chart, the new Mac mini also appears to be much smaller than the current model, as previously rumored. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said the computer would be closer in size to an Apple TV.

Here is the full comparison chart:

Unfortunately for Space Black fans, the chart shows the next Mac mini will apparently be available in Silver only, like the current model.

It is likely that the comparison chart graphic shown in Amazon's listing is provided by Apple, so the specifications are likely accurate.

Apple will likely announce the new Mac mini by Wednesday.

Update: Predictably, the comparison chart was removed from the Amazon listing minutes after we published, but it was likely authentic.

I like the proportions of the Mac mini from this leaked chart much better than the MacRumors concept. :)

It should be called the Mac Nano and powered by USB C.
For the launch video Tim could stroll up to his desk, pull it out of his coat pocket, plug it in to the monitor and it instantly starts up.

Exceeding my expectations so far. Double the RAM will open up some nice server applications for me. Add support for another monitor or two and I'd be golden.

Why? MPB come with Pro and Max chip. Makes no sense to show MBP first before Mini.

Gradual release makes more sense so Mini today with M4 and M4 Pro and tomorrow MBP with M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max

No, I think you’ve got it right. MacBook Pro will be today, in less than an hour! Mini is tomorrow.

Soon there will be the first offers for adhesive or screw clamp solutions to prevent the Mac Tiny from falling off the desk when a memory stick is inserted.

It's time to get excited, folks. This is the BIGGEST leap-forward in the Mac mini since it was first introduced. Apple is thrilled to announce the ALL NEW Mac mini. Powered by the best-in-class, industry leading M-series chip, the ALL NEW Mac mini has the fastest, most powerful M-series chip that Apple has ever released in a Mac mini. And now, the Mac mini starts with an incredible 16 GB of RAM. And Apple didn't stop there. Apple knows how many users need pro-grade hardware. The Mac mini is now available with the the M4 Pro chip, with a 14-core CPU and an INCREDIBLE 20-core GPU, allowing professionals to do amazing things. With all of this incredible performance, Apple is thrilled to also announce that this is the FIRST EVER Mac mini built for Apple Intelligence. The Mac mini is a powerhouse in an ALL NEW form factor. Apple can't wait to see what customers do with this incredible machine. Apple thinks you're gonna love it!

This begs a question relating to the iMac: why doesn’t it offer M4 and M4 Pro configs? Seems that the All-In-One crowd would benefit from this. Is it a technical limitation like heat? Or is it more of a keep one design for iMac to me streamlined, and anyone looking for more can bring their own display and peripherals to Mac mini?
🤷‍♂️ seems like a no brainer. iMac for m4 and m4 pro with Mac Studio for m4 max and m4 ultra

I currently have An M1 MBP that is plenty fine, 16gb and using 60% of 1tb. Hooked to a studio display. Most of the time under the desk with just the studio display on the desk. And for my backpack and brining home or taking to lunch away from the office is an M2 MBA, 8gb and using about half of 512gb.

My brain says keep everything like I have, keep my gift cards I’ve been storing up, and keep waiting since these machines are fine. BUT having been on these forums for 20 years, needs and wants don’t usually line up :)

My heart says trade in the mba, use the gift cards (if I went m4pro), and get a Mac mini to stay at office with studio display and use the MBP as my new portable. I like the small mba, but 16/1 will surely age better than 8/512, especially with Apple intelligence.

decisions, decisions… leaks, decisions
The struggle is real. I'm using an M1 iMac and an M1 Air (both 16GB/1TB) and frankly both are performing quite decently. But at the same time, when I've hopped onto the M3 versions of each at the Apple Store they're noticibly zippier...

Because the Pro and Max are Apple silicon designed for the MacBook Pro. The Pro isn’t purpose-built for the Mini, and the Max isn’t purpose-built for the Studio.

Anyhow, we’ll know if I’m right in a few minutes!

Apple should have just announced everything on Monday and be done with it.

Anyway. I'm interested in a 32/2 M4 Pro mini, replacing an M1 model. Come on Tim, hit me with the bad news ($).
