Is that what they do with the machines folks trade-in?
I didn't realize that

Wow what an amazing waste

I believe so. Perhaps if they are modern enough to resell through their refurbished program then they would repurpose them but I believe that the refurb program is largely customer returns from new.

Apple refurbished is considered akin to new so they can't sell people a laptop that is 3 years old with a buggered battery, a screen and case that might have marks on it and a HD that is likely well used. So replacing screen, case, desoldering storage/battery and replacing them is a given. Then theres the labour costs involved. I would wager the options are to refurb them and lose a lot of money or break them down for parts and lose less money but boost their green credentials a bit.

I might be well wide of the mark here but I don't think so.

If people want their older electronics to see another life and get maximum value from them they should be selling on the open market.

This begs a question relating to the iMac: why doesn’t it offer M4 and M4 Pro configs? Seems that the All-In-One crowd would benefit from this. Is it a technical limitation like heat? Or is it more of a keep one design for iMac to me streamlined, and anyone looking for more can bring their own display and peripherals to Mac mini.
More the latter. I think Apple views iMacs as commodity computers for people who want a plug-and-play solution, and who do not need—and therefore don’t want to pay for—more compute power.

This is also why I don’t believe an iMac Pro is likely either. That was a stopgap product based on issues with the Mac Pro. If you want a non-Pro but powerful desktop solution, then Apple will sell you a Studio/Studio Display combo. That’s where they’ve decided the demand is. And it’s a better solution for most, as it avoids the need to scrap a good screen whenever you need to update the computer.

Understatement of the year. I don't think I've ever seen an Apple rollout this sloppy, and I've been an Apple fan for longer than I'd like to admit now...

They clearly planned to do a video event... I really don't know why they didn't just rip off the bandaid and let it rip in October, rather than... whatever the heck this is 😂

But... Looking at what we can see from the listed M4 Pro specs... I'm cautiously optimistic that it won't be (as) neutered compared to the anemic M3 Pro, and that MAYBE we can get >16GB of ram standard 🙏
It's not dumb to try something new. If there are important updates for several Macs and you don't want one piece of news to drown the rest, doing week release might allow to have more momentum for each product update. Maybe this model will work well for them.

Soon there will be the first offers for adhesive or screw clamp solutions to prevent the Mac Tiny from falling off the desk when a memory stick is inserted.View attachment 2443709

No, you would be too limited to the edge of the desk. It will be the iTape, a custom fit piece of double stick tape with strong adhesive. Stick it where you want it, but get it right the first time!

The other option is a bit of hot glue, then a heat gun should detach it again.

You misunderstood. I was asking why would Apple do MBP first before mini instead of gradual release of the AS chips in the correct order M4->M4 Pro->M4 Max

Also, MPB is their most important line so it even makes sense to leave it for the end

Because the Pro and Max are Apple silicon designed for the MacBook Pro. The Pro isn’t purpose-built for the Mini, and the Max isn’t purpose-built for the Studio.

Anyhow, we’ll know if I’m right in a few minutes!

practical but fugly. I was hoping for some kind of cool design with minor complaints of impracticality.

FWIW, I didn’t misunderstand, my point is that from Apple’s perspective, the MBP launch has to come first. It’s about perception and association, the Pro and the Max are, first and foremost, MBP silicon.

Yoooo

so the Pro got more expensive in Canada and as expected we got screwed up on the ram. You can't have 32gb ram so they are again forcing you to shell C$500 and jump to 48gb

Indeed, stiff cables lift my mini PC right off the desk.

Yes, I think it’s the latter as well. I think iMac is only designed for 24” in mind and base-level processor in mind. No other sizes, no other options. I think it’s clear that the Mac mini and Mac Studio are for more power and for bringing your own peripherals and display (whether they are apples or 3rd party).

I think the “Pro” crowd would change iMacs too often, rather than being able to keep display and peripherals and just swap out computer for more RAM et. al. as things advance and RAM max capacity increases.

I think when we get a Pro Display XDR replacement, probably to the tune of $3k, it will all become clear that pro’s use the studio and those, not an all in one like iMac.

Seems to be the direction all signs are pointing.

Logic isn't the only app in existence for music. A lot more people use Windows apps for it than Macs.
Problem with using windows based DAWs is that they require some kind of iLok device (hardware or software) that is not very intuitive to be honest. I personally much prefer Apple's approach where Logic (better than the others anyway) works just by signing into your Apple account. No iLok to deal with.

Honestly, I don't see why someone would want to use Logic on a PC anyway. All M based Macs run that software beautifully. Im on a base model M1 Max Mac Studio and don't have any issues except hard drive space (base model only had 512GB). Ill definitely upgrade the SSD on next purchase.

🤷‍♂️ seems like a no brainer. iMac for m4 and m4 pro with Mac Studio for m4 max and m4 ultra
I agree but I think it’s only gonna be 24” and base processor for iMac. Mac mini and Mac Studio + displays and peripherals for anything beyond iMac. I walked out those thoughts more in another comment on this thread but long and skinny is keep displays and peripherals and only update machine for increase chip power, RAM, etc
