The Amazon tablet isn't being brought to market to be an iPad killer. It will a lower cost alternative that may appeal to a different audience-perhaps it will get Kindle owners to upgrade. There is plenty of room in the market place for this, whether it will have any real success remains to be seen. I seriously doubt any company truly believes that they will be able to deal a death blow to the iPad. If they did, they would be even more foolish than most of the drivel that is posted here.
One thing it could do, however, is help Android unseat iOS as the leading tablet OS. Interestingly, it looks like it may be Android's equivalent of Apple's walled garden.

being that the Amazon Kindle Tablet will be called the 'Kindle Fire,' the rumor of the Amazon Torch seems even more likely, as Fire and Torch are somewhat related in context.

Do you think Amazon will sell a phone of their own as well? I could totally see that. Right now, Amazon's manufacturer is Quantas.

A phone? Well that would be interesting to say the least. I'm sure Amazon would find a way to bundle services with that too--maybe tied to Amazon Prime somehow. Interesting.

Not likely

Ipad has outsold the Kindle (all models) substantially. I dont see how a 7 inch tablet at $250 (or more as the rumors are now saying) is going to outsell the Kindle, much less impact iOS vs Android on the Tablet market.

I am one who is waiting as patiently as I can for whatever Amazon comes out with next. I love, LOVE dealing with Amazon. Their customer service is second to none in my most humble opinion. And they now have all my business for music, book, and movie downloads.

I'm pretty sure RIM owns the trademark for Torch as the name of a mobile phone. ;)

Tomorrows the big day, I just read that article someone posted.

If Amazon is smart (which I am sure they are), taking advantage of Netflix's latest fall to shame, and Amazon with its own cloud music playing and video streaming. If they bundle a year of unlimited video and t.v. streaming (aka netflix rip) and the tablet is capable of a good UI with a focus on internet browsing.

As long as the price stays as promised (half of that of the iPad) I believe the kindle fire could be a great success. I mean that would be a great deal. The iPad can over all be a better tablet, even have a great price tag for what you get. But as long as the kindle sticks to its guns and focuses on stuff users want and are now missing, the kindle could offer more cheap content than apple, allowing for a great system.

Link?

You do realize that the Kindle was out LONG before the iPad...right? Thus my request for a link, because I simply don't see how Amazon's eBook store can be outselling its paper book store unless there were a LOT of Kindles in people's hands. Especially when they essentially rock bottomed the price. From $489 to $89 at the lowest point.

I am making popcorn. Not only can't I wait to see what Amazon has come up with - I just know the comments on this message board are going to be fantastic (especially by those who are so quick to review something they haven't used and who have to slam anything non-Apple)

First of all, the Kindle isn't directly competing with the iPad - this expands the market for the Kindle, especially at $199 and will bring in customers who wouldn't buy an iPad. It's all about hitting a price point that expands the size of the market for Amazon's ebooks.

While i'm sure Amazon would love to outsell the iPad, but it's not really that important since they also have iPad/Pod/phone, as well as Mac and PC, Kindle apps - so every one of then is a potential Kindle book buyer as well.

As a result, every new Kindle sale gives Amazon a bigger market for their media, which is where the money is for them. The ereader is merely the gateway for their content, which is where the money is. In the end, they don't care what device you use, as long as you buy media from them.
