The thing is that the price of RAM has plummeted and that the cost to Apple to double RAM capacity from 8 to 16 GB is far less than $200 USD, and the base model is lackluster compared to Apple competitors. Unfortunately this model works because they've designed their products not to be upgradeable and customers are paying through the nose for this... or replacing their older computers sooner.
As such I can take pride in deciding not to buy this MacBook, given that it's just as much the consumers' choice as that of the business. If enough like me were to exist, it would force Apple to change... but there aren't.
