Hmmm, this makes me think that it won't be much longer until Amazon Prime Video is unbundled from Prime completely. IDK why else someone would pay more for the video service and not want any of the benefits of Prime. I mean surely most people could find something to order from Amazon. I've had Prime for years but never watch the video because it's difficult to watch it on anything. They need a freaking tvOS app already!

While you could be right and I was actually wondering the same thing; one reason to unbundle is to attract people who don't want prime or do not want to watch Amazon video on a regular basis but would like to see some things at a flat rate price.

For example, someone could watch a season of a show or an amazon exclusive such as Mozart in the Jungle, Bosch or the Man in the High Castle, and then cancel their subscription; others may not need all of Prime for one reason or the other and this gives Amazon a way to get money by offering a limit term subscription that meets their needs.. That lets Amazon capture additional marginal revenue at low cost; personally I would include prime delivery in the price to try to hook people on it as well. If the people who do monthly subscriptions like the delivery options they may sign up for the full prime membership.

<Shrug>. Amazon Prime Video's interface is really bad, nothing like Netflix's. They have a long way to go before they can think of taking on Netflix.

Really? I find the Netflix interface brutal. I am not sure about on other devices, but on the ATV4, a huge part of the screen real-estate is taken up by a graphic, with only 1-1/2 rows of actual content options visible. I don't know if that is an Apple designated style, but I personally find it very tough to use.

Conversely, programs like Plex will expand the content selections to the full screen as you scroll, making it much simpler to locate what you re after.

Not sure it is worth it. The selection is pretty sparse compared to Netflix. I get it through prime and use it, but if I had to choose one (oh the first world horror!) it would be Netflix by a mile. But Amazon has good original stuff (Bosch, Man in High Castle).

I forgot to say - search is also horrible. The iOS app shows you only a fraction of what is available which you can find online. I think to a lesser degree Netflix does a similar thing.

I have had Prime for many years... but have never used the video part of it.

Main reason? The lack of any place to play it. None of my TVs or my new Apple TVs support it. Sure, I could pull out my iPad... but why bother... plenty of other places to watch stuff that are supported right on my ATV.

Plus their video quality used to be pure crap when I did try it once... I've heard it's improved a lot lately though.

If they ever release a tvOS app then I may take a peak...

The thing is... I don't WANT another decice to deal with at all. Getting my wife to press the ATV button on our remote is hard enough... no way is she going to want to mess with yet another device. There is just too much friction involved with dealing with multiple devices.
Totally agree, I watch Netflix on my AppleTV. We don't have a cable box, so we are down to one remote and that is still a problem with the wife. So additional devices are out of the question. And I won't even try to explain airplay. I have had prime for years simply for the shipping advantage, their video service is persona non gratis until they are on the ATV (and basically that goes for any other service out there).

Nobody can't take down Netflix only Apple if they add a subscription service like Apple Music for tv

Glad to I see this separation, I just want prime for the shipping....can't find things on Amazon Prime Video that I want to watch like I can on Hulu and Netflix in my opinion

Because Love Film has always been junk and Amazon's attempt to use it as a way to push people into paying for prime has failed.

Omg I completely forget that LoveFilm used to exist! I used to get DVD's from them. Watched the entire "The Wire" boxset.

Ahhhh the memories...
