$199 is a great price for a tablet with integrated services like this. It took Amazon to stand up a credible iPad competitor. I'm getting one. (although why i need one is beyond me )
This proves my impulse buy theory

If I were an investor, I'd prefer Company A. You know the one that rakes in the cash in RECORD amounts? Company B is apparently a charitable organization, not a business. This is about pure profit, rake in the cash, take no prisoners!![]()
People need to STOP COMPARING IT TO AN IPAD. Look at it as its own device. For $199 you're getting a device that can read books, watch videos on Amazon Prime, browse the internet, and access to an app store from a reputable company. Not bad at all for only $199.
I'm a huge fan of Apple products and currently have an iPad, but the Kindle Fire is a very nice device for only $199. I have wanted a 7" iPad since the iPad was introduced, but Apple saysnobody wants that size tablet. I don't agree. Once I settled in with my iPad, I realize that I pretty much use it for reading books, surfing, watching an occasional movie, maybe some music when I don't have my iPod, and looking at my photos. The Kindle will do all of this and will fit in my back pocket. I think I need one!

Two year in the future..

Losing $50 per device...interesting business model.

how are they losing $50? they are probably paying less for the parts than RIM did since this is now more than 6 months later
So let's see if I have this right.
Dad buys his kid high priced electronics.
Timmy has an unrealistic level of entitlement and is disrespectful to his father
Mom also disrespects father - and in front of their entitled child.
Do I have your scenario correct?
