There’s a good chance Amazon knows something MacRumors doesn’t and is trying to reduce its inventory before a new model is released.
my bet is all of the discounts lately are in fact direct-from-apple, they just dont want to ruin their premium branding and only offer it through retailers

as for display, does anyone know if TB4 is capable of more that 60Hhz on 5k? I know the spec is 4k @ 120Hz, 8k @ 60Hhz, and in theory 5k @ 60Hz. But given that same refresh as 8k, this in theory should be able to run more?
point here is, apple is unlikely to update their displays until TB5 hits the streets and is 120 Hz capable on 5k and 6k

Is there a reason for choosing the Apple Thunderbolt Display? I used to want one specifically because I wanted to have as close to zero cables as possible. But, if you're talking about getting a hub (or docking station?) the one cable setup is further from reality than ever. I eventually went with two BenQ 27" 1440p (same specs as Thunderbolt Display, if I'm not mistaken) displays connected through a CalDigit TS4. Works well for me. Cables are a fact of life but there are ways to make them not as visible.
I already have hubs I can use, I have these:

I just want one because Apple displays look amazing, and I want the built in webcam. But I’m not sure if I’ll be able to achieve what I’m looking for with these with the one cable setup, any idea? I’d also like to use two Thunderbolt monitors daisy chained.

I was thinking Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter, plug that into the Anker dock usb c port, charge laptop using the PD port on it. but I’ve no idea if it’ll work.

What would you do with this monitor that 120 would make an improvement over 60? I'm not saying your wrong, just curious. I went from a 14 pro to a 15 regular phone and I don't notice any difference. Now I do have the ipad pro 12.9 but more for the brightness than for the 120hz.
Much bigger difference on a bigger display. I went from a 14" MacBook Pro to a 13.6 Air and I notice it daily and it's really the only thing I miss about my Pro.

I've got two and LOVE them. I'd almost be tempted for a third but honestly wouldn't fit on my desk.

Amazon today is matching an all-time low price on the Studio Display, now available for $1,299.99, down from $1,599.99. This is the standard glass version of the Studio Display with the tilt adjustable stand, and it currently has an estimated February 23 delivery date for Prime shipping.

The Studio Display features a 27-inch 5K retina display with a 5120 x 2880 resolution and up to 600 nits of brightness. Discounts on the Studio Display have been very rare over the past few months, and this is only the second time in 2024 that we've tracked a record low price on any version of the monitor.

If you want to upgrade to the nano-texture glass option, Amazon also has this model of the Studio Display on sale. It's available for $1,599.99, down from $1,899.99, which is a second-best price on the Studio Display with nano-texture glass.

Apple says that the standard display is engineered for "extremely low reflectivity," but for rooms where there is a lot of glare, Apple suggests the nano-texture glass option with even less reflectivity.

I got one arriving today. I got a 14" MBP because the app I use has lots of small things on the screen it was getting too small for my old eyes. I used the same app on a 27" iMac and everything is fine so when the sale popped up I ordered one. Apple since the original Mac plays games with how they drive video cards and monitor so non-Apple monitors (or video cards) don't always look as good so that why I decided to go with the Apple monitor.

...really thats your reasoning...guess they shouldn't have added ProMotion to the other apple devices cause they are not gaming machines.
Pretty much. Love the ProMotion on my macbook pro 16. Very noticeable difference when jumping between a MBA and my MBP. My wife doesn't notice it, but I do. Love getting 4K/120 on my LG C3 OLED when connected to my MBP.

If you want to keep the nice tight feeling of using your Mac like a Mac, get this panel now. ANY discount is welcome. Is it more than comparable sized panels? Yes. Do those do what this does? No. It integrates smoothly in to Mac Life. Makes your Mac Mini or Studio Mac feel like an iMac or Mac laptop. Mics, speakers, camera, screen controls, etc. THAT'S what you're paying for. Yes, it's not for everyone. Some don't care about that stuff. You signed up for Mac Life, this is all part of it.

How are they taking $300 off? I was told the COG is so high thats why prices went up, not because of price gauging. People don't offer discounts below COG.

What is it that you’re doing to notice the difference? Such as scrolling web pages, doing pro video editing?

Does this mean a new display is coming next month??? 🤔🧐🤞
No, this is Amazon trying to spin up demand. Amazon’s frequent sales are disconnected from Apple’s product release strategies, and has more to do with generating revenue for Amazon “moving units on the shelf”.

Damn, I would love to see a 30"+ 5k or 6k but at $2.5k instead of the crazy XDR prices.
better yet, lower the current XDR to $2.5k and have a V2 at the current price.

Scrolling is the most obvious. Superficial? Maybe. Pleasant? Heck yea, I feel its the same as Retina. Retina didn't give you more screen real estate, but it sure made the user experience nicer. (Yes, I think Retina a bigger deal, but both are nice and should be stanadard on a $1000+ monitor.

I would love to try one, but it's hard for me to justify buying one to connect to a base model M1 Mini.
That might be the excuse I need to upgrade to an upcoming Mini version (M3?) ;)
