Is it really that hard to read AND UNDERSTAND a post when quoting it?

I read AND UNDERSTOOD it just fine. Sadly, it seems you're just looking to argue and make some noise not knowing the many uses/benefits of promotion besides gaming.

Relax.

It's a 5K panel, how cheap is the cheapest 5K panel?

And how is the color accuracy on that panel?

I am not being snarky, I am honestly asking.

And yes, 5K is noticeably better than 4K.
This is cheaper. Apparently same panel as the Studio Display.

I still have and use my '04 Cinema 30. I am waiting for a cheaper Pro XDR or a new 30-32 Studio. The Studio needs to be without cameras, speakers, A-series SOCs... etc. I just want a high quality display panel (much like the XDR).
Preach, I am in the same boat. I love my 30" ACD and that size is perfect like the XDR but that price is just not justifiable for me, even being a graphics pro. I need the nano texture and that would put that display at $6.5k (tax included). I would be happy to see an ASD at 30" for $2.5k.

I just upgraded from the 27" iMac with 5k display to the Studio display and it's quite a change. Yes, the iMac was awesome too, but the Studio Display is nice. It's brighter and crispier. Sure, it's a hefty price for "just a monitor", however, I'm happy with it. Surely I'd have liked an OLED screen at 120Hz with VRR asf, but to be honest.. the experience still is awesome. Happy camper here.

My only issue with this display is that it is expensive. That said, it's one of those things that once you use it for a bit, you understand why there isn't something that quite matches it from any other company. It's a well-built 5K monitor with a feature set that complements the Mac perfectly.

I went through a bunch of 4k monitors at a variety of different price points. Some had HDR, some were 27" some were 32". I could never get the color profile to perfectly match my MacBook with any of them.

Overall though - none quite offered what the ASD offers. I kept the thing somewhat begrudgingly because of the cost, but knew that it was the right decision. After the sting of the cost faded away, I'm left with a monitor that I am absolutely delighted with.

If you want to keep the nice tight feeling of using your Mac like a Mac, get this panel now. ANY discount is welcome. Is it more than comparable sized panels? Yes. Do those do what this does? No. It integrates smoothly in to Mac Life. Makes your Mac Mini or Studio Mac feel like an iMac or Mac laptop. Mics, speakers, camera, screen controls, etc. THAT'S what you're paying for. Yes, it's not for everyone. Some don't care about that stuff. You signed up for Mac Life, this is all part of it.

Well said.

Downward pressure from Samsung's similar 5K display finally pushing Apple to drop the price regularly? Awesome (and overdue) if true.
The price was down regularly All last year to around the time samsungs came out then suddenly it was full price for months. This time last year it was 1299. I even saw the nano texture one for 1350 for a few days once

Ya this has nothing to do with inventory. It's been 1299 off and on for a long time. The Samsung Display is not half the price. The lowest that's been was 850 at Christmas and from the reviews the Apple is better hands down.

It definitely wasn't all last year. It seems that some of their resellers like Costco dropped the price on occasion, but always for a couple weeks, then it went back up. I guess that's how they maintain the supply chain/stock they want to, or keep price-sensitive shoppers interested. Hell, that Samsung one was full price for the longest time after it came out, which seemed crazy to me, but it's been pretty easy to find heavily discounted since they started offering it for sales around the holidays.

It would be great if a price in this neighborhood - or less - would be the new normal.

I’m just talking amazon. Apple studio display was 1299 or 1350 or 1399 for the better part of the first 6 months of last year. It didnt go over 1400 til sometime late summer early fall. This time last year it was def 1299 cus i almost bought one then and kind of wish i did

Actually looks like they are using a better one, at least the G27P pro model. It has 10 bit color and 2.1 hdmi port.

The problem is that the price is too close to the ASD and at least one can get apple care for the studio. I still personally think the Studio display is not a good deal but for some it might be just what they want.

I finally decided to buy one of these from Best Buy with their $300 off sale + open box discount. The price still hurts, but I'm extremely impressed and happy with it so far. I do design and multimedia work, so the 5k is perfect for checking details and the color output is great. Upgrading from an old Thunderbolt Display, so this is obviously an improvement on every level. 60hz is kind of disappointing though and blacks aren't as deep as I'm used to with other screens.

Congrats. If you had tested other non-Apple displays, I think you will find over time that the money was well spent.

I had a Thunderbolt monitor for years too and tried all sorts of different brands of 4K displays before getting the ASD. My main issues with the non-Apple monitors were:

  • Color profiles don't match the MacBook no matter how much I futzed with the settings.
  • Having to press some stupid button to access a menu system just to do simple things like adjust brightness and volume.
  • Autobrightness and True Tone that was never adjusted the same as the Mac. The ASD gets this mostly right and it's a simply key press to tweak it up or down by one increment if it's slightly off.
  • Horrible speakers (if any)
  • Power on/off was flaky. Sometimes they would wake, sometimes they wouldn't. Sometimes they would randomly wake in the middle of the night!
  • 4K doesn't quite look right. I know this is MacOS scaling, but when you notice it, you can't unsee it. Especially when it sits alongside a MacBook screen.
  • Non-Apple webcams being a bit fussy and not connecting, or having some weird color tint.

The intangible value proposition of the Apple Studio Display is that it just works when I plug it in and it looks and feels like an extension of my Mac. Which it should. It is too expensive, but that doesn't make it poor value for money.

At $1300 it is only $100 more than the 2011 Thunderbolt Monitor. I own and use three of them with my M3 MacBook Pro and they work perfectly. I bought one studio display and am on the fence as to getting a second. I love the thunderbolt monitors, but I know they are going to fail at some point. given that my first one is 13 years old and the other two are about nine years old. There is no doubt Apple makes high-quality displays.

You nailed it. You can always go off-brand to save money but the compromise is huge. you always see the braggers telling you you were overpaying for your monitor because of this or that. The differences the Apple monitor as you say just works with no futzing.
