Oh look! Another Amazon sale - where nothing you wanted is discounted. Also, Amazon seem to be playing fast and loose with advertised discounts, claiming them to be much deeper than they actually would be if you paid the pre-sale Amazon price. Discounts are listed in relation to RRP, not their regular Amazon price. Which is cheeky, if I may say so.

The deals on Amazon Echo are very good though. A great time to pick up an Echo if you haven't already, much more reasonable prices for these things.

Meh. Amazon sales are little more than a tactic to temporarily increase foot traffic to the site - but that was obvious. The deals are rarely good, and usually misleading.

If I recall correctly I thought they, and many other retailers, were brought under fire for this tactic. They inflate the prices then drop them to what everyone else is offering them for and call it a sale. I may be remembering incorrectly though.

I'm largely underwhelmed by what's being offered, yes the Echo and Dot are heavily discounted, but I don't need or want them. I'm not seeing much else in terms of savings. I will offer a caveat in that my search is limited

I've had several items in my cart for a few days and added a few more in hopes that any of them would see the discount. Not one is on sale, but a lot of similar products are. I scrolled through the list a little, but didn't find anything worth buying.

This is like black friday to me, 99% I can't use, can't subscribe to, and can't deliver to the Netherlands. Lucky bastards.
Can't wait for Amazon Netherlands. The german site almost lists none of these items, and subscribing to prime only fails

Best Buy has a "Big Deal" day going on as well, parallel to the Amzon Prime day. It does have some decent quality stuff, including Apple products on sale--9.7 iPad pro 150$ off; iPhone SE 200$ off, and some good 4K TV's.

You're missing out on exactly nothing. These 'sales' are nothing more than a tactic to drive up traffic temporarily, and get a few million more people accidentally signed up for a rolling Prime subscription, and then just hope they don't click the 'Do not continue' button before they get charged.

The deals are for junk that nobody would need, and the stuff you actually want (the big ticket, branded items) aren't discounted. All I'm seeing is discounts on toothbrushes and off-brand Bluetooth speakers.

Prime Day is always pretty ****** (started 3 yrs ago?). Only worth it if you were looking for something in the first place, and the displayed percentage off is from the MSRP, which doesn't reflect the market price of a product. If you check camelcamelcamel, it will also show you that most items have been hiked up to have a sale percentage taken off, so it looks like you got a deal.

Good marketing from them though. Doesn't stop me from browsing throughout the day.

Has anyone seen a single Apple product?
I ordered a 29w USB-C Charger. 20% off. (Amazon Warehouse deal, not Prime Day)

ETA: Only got it because I realize how much I need the extra power to charge the 12.9" IPP (and iPhone 6s Plus), and noticed it was in stock while browsing Prime Day deals.

$44 + shipping is a sale? I haven't priced them so I don't really know.

I continue to be amazed by the amount of free publicity and advertising that Amazon receives. CNN was littered with "articles" about the company. We wonder why the retailer sector is dying. Here you have a company that has not earned a dime in the first decade or more, didn't have to collect a tax until recently and continues to get free publicity. They treat employees like **** and have ruined a good number of suppliers.

And we call this "free market economy."

The worse part is that I still buy from them. A lot. Because if there is one thing that we, the American consumer, love the most is a good deal on something we probably don't need. :D

Yes this is social commentary as you mention later but give me a break. If this were not a "free market economy", the government would own the retailers and therefore put limits on what Amazon could not sell and what little it could sell would have limits of how much in volume and what price range Amazon could charge. Having lived in a non-free market economy I'll tell you just be glad, so glad that you DO live in a free market economy. Oh yes, working conditions in non-free market economies are often worse, except that complaining about conditions is a crime against the government who oversees those working conditions. People complaining about the free market need to experience a non-free market first hand.

Wait... you don't need a mermaid blanket? :p:D

I did buy a Kindle Paperwhite. I held off on buying one until today for my son. And if he doesn't like it, I will use it for myself as my aging eyes are getting tired of reading books on my iPad mini. The price today is better than what I paid for my daughter's at the Christmas (Black Friday?) promotion by $10.

Prime Day always sucks. Even if you have things you need, its 99% guaranteed to not be on sale (that is an estimated figure).

I got a notice a few weeks back that Adobe was no longer offering CC subscriptions through Amazon anymore, and I bought my subscription there last year on Prime Day. I was hoping that maybe Microsoft would have a promotion on their Office for Mac suite (Home/Student) but so far not finding it. :/

Have you checked with your employer as to whether they offer the Microsoft Home Use Program? My jobs over the last 10 years have all offered it, which means the full Office suite for 10 bucks.

Hopefully you don't get a swapped fake unit. People run that scam all the time (they keep the real one and ship back a knockoff). I just got the Anker one for $19. Same thing.

Well, I'm a SAHM, so that doesn't work for me, but maybe my husband could ask at his work for his PC. :) I've never heard of it, and I know his version is a little long in the tooth, but he's unwilling to go to the subscription model. I'll have to check it out! Thanks. :)

My version of Office for Mac is the 2008 one, but I don't really use it all that often, so I just put up with the random messages that I get from it.

I upgraded last year because it was only 10 bucks. I think mine was 2011 before that, and I honestly haven't seen much difference for my uses, but at that price... The license does allow for installation on 2 computers, and they do have the Mac version as well (though I don't *think* you can do one Mac and one PC). It's also not a subscription this way, so that's a plus. I'm a creative, so I don't have much use for Office in a power-user sense, but I do need the basics from time to time.

EDIT: You can check for yourself if he's eligible by entering his work email address here: https://www.microsofthup.com/hupus/home.aspx

Thanks, I'll check it out! My husband is in finance, so he uses all the Office products daily, particularly Excel.

Yep, I've seen it. Been a diligent Amazon shopper for a few years now, so I feel pretty good about it. Amazon has legitimate support for their stores/deals, they've comp'd me so much because of screw-ups in shipping, etc.

Just gone and got me an echo. £70 off... and already delivered - it's fantastic!

You should be ashamed Siri - you're rubbish in comparison!
