Easy with statements like that.
That might be the case for now (well not exactly either as you still need the kext), but future OS updates which don't need to be 10.7 might change that altogether.
You never know with Apple.

However, it would be great if they dump their whole "you have to buy our overpriced graphics cards" crap and and just provide the drivers for a small selection of cards so that everyone can just buy PC cards.

I'm not so sure. A lot of people seem to jump the 6870 train lately without really realising that this upgrade might not the safest one.

For me, the uncertainty is fine since I'm not too eager about software updates, but then again others might think differently.

Your not so sure? So someone is debating it?

Its pointed out so often.. its hard to miss. I'm enjoying for now and holding on to my Mac 4870. Honestly, the 4870 was no slouch for my needs except for games in Windows.
