AMD Radeon RX 580 works in macOS

If you wanted this you should have bought a Sapphire RX 580 PULSE 8GB model.
This is the ONLY RX card which is identified correctly out of the box, without kext edits.
Can you return your Nitro card and swap it out for this model?
 
I do not think that is true for high sierra.

I would bet if I installed High Sierra on my 5,1 w/ MSI RX 580 8GB Reference, it would say RX 580.

If you don't want to do PRAM reset everytime, you can use BootChamp (with SIP disabled).

That's 100% normal. All AMD PC graphic card that can work in MacOS OOTB NEVER ever able to correctly identify themselves so far.

The only exception is the Sapphire PULSE RX580 8GB in High Sierra.

Since your card is not that exact model. Therefore, it won't able to identify correctly in MacOS natively.

Anyway I Hope it's Just a "visualization problem" and that It does its job.
Sorry if I repeat the question, but Can I use:
Cable 1 (mini 6 pin to 8 pin) + Cable 2 (mini 6 pin to 6 pin) together, right? No problem if I use Just the First Cable (mini 6 pin to 8 pin)?

Hello, on my macpro I use a GTX 980 not flashed. I find that the nvidia webdriver is not optimized enough and that the reactivity of the finder, photoshop, illustrator and indesign are not much faster than with the original GT 120. I was thinking of buying a new video card when the Vega 56 came out but I found it very expensive. then I wonder if I should not invest in a Sapphir RX580 pulse (if I find one). My question is, will the RX 580 bring me more speed than the GTX 980? or will there be little performance difference under MacOS?

The work around is to run Luxmark for 10-15s after boot. You can auto load that after login if you want to. It's a known bug for 4,1 or flashed 5,1. It seems SMC related (that's why real 5,1 is not affected).

Thanks for your suggestion, I downloaded Luxmark and ran the gpu stress test and it is working, the fans came down to normal speed. Also the gpu didn't get heart attack from stress test 🙂. Do I need to get iStat menu app for monitoring the gpu as Macs Fan Control doesn't show pcie slot 1 temperature
 
If the 5,1 Mac Pro does not allow booting back into Windows 10 with High Sierra, it is an automatic NO for me. At this point fellas, Windows 10 is better than Mac OS for our 5,1s.
 
BootChamp will make you boot to Windows 10 on the next boot. But automatically go back to MacOS on the next next boot.

It’s not perfect, but so far the best solution with APFS + non Mac EFI GPU.

I don’t think it’s required, but of course nothing to stop you to monitor the GPU temeprature as well.

Depends. For something like FCPX, yes, a RX580 should be faster. For gaming, no, I expect the 980 can do better.

Currently with Sierra, disabling SIP does the trick for both ways.

Yes, it's a pain sometimes that it will always boot back into MacOS after that initial restart, but that's manageable. It cannot get any worse for us dual-booting folks, and the level where it is now is "acceptable." but nothing less, please.

Bootcamp apps in Windows 10 won’t work with APFS. But “BootChamp + SIP disabled” work perfectly fine in High Sierra.

Select Windows drive to boot is never an issue in MacOS (via system preferences), but with APFS, once you select the Windows partition, there is no way to go back to MacOS with non EFI GPU (except PRAM reset). Therefore, use BootChamp to auto switch between Windows / MacOS make more sense than keep doing PRAM reset.
