AMD today announced new Radeon Pro W6000 series graphics cards suitable for workstations like the existing Intel-based Mac Pro.

Built on 7nm-based AMD RDNA 2 architecture, the new higher-end Radeon Pro W6800 graphics card delivers up to 79% faster graphics performance than the previous-generation Radeon Pro W5700, although this is based on a test system powered by an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X processor rather than an Intel processor. The W6800 also features 32GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory with ECC support, and 128MB of AMD Infinity Cache.

AMD says the W6800 graphics card is available now from leading retailers for a suggested price of $2,249. For comparison, the W5700X graphics card is a $600 built-to-order upgrade option for the Mac Pro, which starts at $5,999 itself.

There's also a new mid-range W6600 graphics card that features 8GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory with ECC support, and 32MB of AMD Infinity Cache. AMD expects the W6600 to be available in the third quarter of 2021 for a suggested price of $649.

Last, there's a new Radeon Pro W6600M graphics option for workstation-class notebooks.

The performance on these cards continues to get more amazing. Clearly meant for professionals but still impressive.

Another GPU paper launch?
Yes…unless you’re an OEM or corporate/preferred customer/partner that may be able to get ahold of early vendor access, no one is going to see these on retail shelves or NewEgg for the next 9 months, or just about the time AMD introduces their next GPU. This is the way.

Availability only on eBay for $9700000000 dollars plus shipping or in your nearest used computer store in 1 year for $100.

At this point, why not just add an APU to these cards, and run everything off custom silicon. Using the PCI-E slot essentially as a Power Source. the limiting factor is quickly becoming the interconnects not the hardware. Using this idea, AMD and nVidia could sell entire systems, with no additional overhead to be added to existing hardware. If Apple could sell an M1 PCI-E Powered card, for like 150 dollars… convert your old PC to a new Mac… I wonder how well it would sell?

A decent PC? does one exist?

Hmm, I used to think so. Then Dell walmarted the industry, and put a negative pressure on quality, capability, repairability. There are some good ones, but not as many as there should be, IMO, for sure. It's sad, looking for a new Windoze notebook, so many focused on meeting a price mark, and are just a sad joke for anything but editing in Notepad.

I remember the old joke about 'Windows will run on the minimum requirement system, but what will run ON Windows on that system?' Solitaire is NOT a 'business critical app'.

HDMI 2.1.... in a Mac... please! Who will buy a 30" 6k display if you can have a 55" Samsung QLED 7.6k TV for half (!) the price?

Good grief that pricing must be for all the RAM cause it def isn't due to the card/die it came from.

Also the performance improvement isn't even testing like for like (notice there is no W6700).
